Touch ID…surely somewhere in the world somebody is already doing a 3D bobblehead scan of their face to try to unlock the new iPhone just for kicks lol

  • Face ID is more user friendly however it took their developer 3 tries in order to unlock the phone so I think they should aim for convenience over making it more secure.

Owning the s8, the face recognition is very convenient however I find myself using the back fingerprint scanner half the time because I naturally hold my phone low and on an angle. My only issue with unlocking the phone is when it is on a flat surface in a room that is not well lit which is actually quite annoying, however I think they added a voice recognition unlock now so will have to try that out.

    • iPhone uses IR dot tech, so there doesn't need to be light in the room at all for the device to recognize you

  • Neither, double tap to unlock.

    • not just normal tap, but customized wake up knock code just like what LG has done.

How am I supposed to unlock my phone even before I take it out from my pocket with Face ID?

    • Put a photo of your face in your pocket facing the front camera? :D

      • Wont work… Photos dont have "Depth" :)

        • Put a 3D photo of your face

          I meant to say this…!

        • @illumination: Still wont work :) Apparently some hollywood level masks worn by people didnt fool it. And even the bloke who demoed it didnt get it to recognise his OWN face the first time :D

Only works on Android phones with, as per usual, inferior technology

        • Hmm, extra feature = inferior technology?

          I'm kidding. I get it.

@illumination: yes, photo unlocking is a cool extra feature. Self combusting is another

    • buy an Android. Literally the answer to every one of your questions about dumb iphones

      • Android has Face Unlock since ICS — that's almost 6 years ago. Tried a few times and it was just too inconvenient.

As indicated previously, isnt that photo unlock?

  • "Face ID or Touch ID?"

No real choice there if you wear a burka. Or are wearing a motorcycle helmet.

    • don't ban the iphone x, BAN THE BURKA.

      pauline hanson will preorder.

the face ID didn't even work. lol

      • So if 2 people (or one person twice) unlock your phone then you need to put in a code?
That'd get annoying real quick around here; everyone constantly unlocks my phone to check the time!

Im guessing no-one else has that happen to them, otherwise this would just be a useless feature! (apparently earphones are!)

  • If everything apple claimed is true, face id is pretty darn impressive. People just don't like changes, that's all. Unless you always have to cover ur face for various reasons, faceID is pretty much equal and even better than touchID (Like apple said, less chances of random stranger unlocking)

I personally can't wait till this gets implemented to iMacs. Immediate user switching just by looking at the screen!

    • What about the convenience of unlocking your device at night time, for example? Or with the device sitting on a table and you need to check quickly for notifications.
I say we wait for in-depth reviews before making conclusions on the subject.

      • Well apple does claim it works in the dark using the IR sensors so hat should be just fine. Glancing a phone on a table might be an issue i guess. Im giving them the benefit of doubt before the reviews

"Hey honey, come and look at this, but don't look at the screen!"
