PVR under $200?

Hi, I'm in the market for a PVR.
Nothing too fancy.

  • a decent EPG (not one that I have to wait until I say change to Ch10 to update). I'd prefer not to have to buy a iceTV sub.
  • Series record would be nice.
  • I dont care if its internal or usb recording.
  • And be able to pause TV (my fav).
  • oh and a decent WAF (wife acceptance factor). I.e. fairly intuitive & responsive.

We've got a fetch, but we're moving on from Optus so we'll have to hand it back. All those cheap fetchs on Ebay are Optus ones which I believe won't work if the original "owner" doesn't activate or if they leave Optus. We dont use the apps or the extra channels. The price tag for a new one seems a bit over the top.

Thanks!

        Missed that… ignore me. :)

But worth the extra money ;)
HTPC/PVR not fashion anymore, people rather stream TV shows.

        • @boomramada: if i was starting out, I'd agree, but I've got a nas + kodi & catchup apps on the tv. I thought about a htpc but it's not really cheap and it'd be fairly redundant. But thanks!

    • thanks, I looked into that, but alas Fetch mini doesn't have a HDD so you can't record TV.

I might just have to bite the bullet & either get an old Topfield/Beyonwiz/Humax, or setup a HTPC.

  • you already have a computer I guess so why not buy a TV usb dongle like I have (avermedia) run 2nd tv cable using a splitter to it then keep computer on and use it rather than TV to watch/record shows.

Cheapest PVR without the bs of kodi etc which never works well, avermedia has its own scheduler etc etc works well, however it is only a single tuner so I record using it and having a dual tv cable watch another channel on TV.

    • Only laptops.

Co-incidentally I've just gotten access to GoodGuys Commerical.
They sell the Fetch Mighty for $297 ($102 off store price - just shows you how much wiggle room they have on pricing).

thank everyone, looks like I might just fork out the extra $'s.

      • where is it avaialble for $297?

        • +1

GoodGuys commercial website (you need an account). Unionshopper& Sunsuper can apply for access). Pity they don't accept gift cards, as i can get them at 8% off too.

  • got a PS3? get a playTV, really easy to use, record to PS3 HDD

  • Is there really nothing for around $200? I am only after something to record free to air, as I only have Internet on my phone (and only 6gig a month). I really just want something like I had 8 years ago, but can't seem to find anything that isn't Internet dependent.

    • you might have to buy something from 8yrs ago like a refurb Topfield.
I'm going to stick with my TV + HDD for the moment, a little clunky, but at least it's free.
