More Expensive Than iPhone X, Thoughts RED's Hydrogen One

So now that people are gawking over the iPhone X's price tag.

No one has mentioned another American company that has a really expensive smartphone.

RED's Hydrogen One

http://www.red.com/hydrogen

They make amazing cameras, now they are taking a stab at a smartphone.

USD
TITANIUM $1,595
ALUMINUM $1,195

AUD ( Direct conversion as of post 1USD = 1.25006AUD)
TITANIUM $1,993
ALUMINUM $1,491

So with Aussie tax, it will probably be higher.

Thoughts?

Not ok, iphone x over 1.5k broke, no job, cant afford eat, cant pay power bill to charge my phone or catch bus to apple store.

        Not ok

I wouldn't pay pay much for samsung, touchwiz is the worst, I usually get sony, the dual front facing waterproof speakers, they have made phones waterproof for years before apple and samsung, but now that everyone else has finally caught up, i'm looking into the Pixel, if not i might jump back to another japanese phone, like a fujitsu or sharp.

Japanese phones have always been revolutionary.

But it goes so well with an $80k car.

It's also not the worlds first with a 3D display, the japanese have done it way earlier, just like facial recognition on japanese flip phones as well.

What is it with American companies that want to say they did it first or better?

I want a Hydrogen. But unless they come on a contract with Optus, it probably won't happen.

I'm -intending- on getting a Pixel 2 when my Nexus 6P is dead. But unless they come on a contract with Optus, it probably won't happen.

I'd also like an $80k luxury car.

    • You could always change telco…

      • Yea, brand/company loyalty is not rewarded these days, always look for the better bargain.

What is this Hydrogen. The website itself only gives pdf file with fancy words to describe the phone. If I'm investing that much money, I would expect much more information about the products :/

    • RED is an expensive but amazing camera company, this is their first smartphone, all we know is it has a"new" but not really display.

Attachable components like their cameras (like Moto Mods),

    No.

    Are you OK?

    no way, crap one

  • +1

I'd only consider this if you'd anticipate on shelling out another couple grand for the modular extensions that make it worth while

  • comparing RED and Apple isn't really practical. Red products are aimed towards pros whereas Apple products are more of a "premium" consumer products.
