Grand Theft Auto V (GTA V) [PS4/XB1/PC] - $39 @ JB Hi-Fi Online and Instore

890

Saw this while browsing, not sure if anyone's posted this yet. Thought it was a decent price. Comes with "bonus" $1.25mil for gta online for Xbox and PS4, not sure on PC but might be worth asking.

Can't believe how well this game is still selling. I bought it for $49 from EB Games just over a year ago

Still waiting for the PC version to come down to AUD $20, and it looks like it's going to be a long wait.

      • +3

I've been waiting for the same thing, though it's currently $24 USD from Green Man Gaming, so roughly $30 AUD.

        • +3

While the Xbox 360 version is arguably the worst performer, and the PS4 Pro (Boost Mode) is currently the best showing.
There's really nothing over the PC version, its the definitive version.
Not only that, after the main campaign is over and online becomes stale…. PC version has the option of MODs.
They can enhance the game, or completely change it, increasing the longevity of it.
Something none of the ports can boast about.

Same rules true for certain other games like Fallout 4, Skyrim, Half Life 2, Minecraft, Quake 3, Doom 3, Arma 2, GTA San Andreas, Just Cause 2… … …

        • @Kangal: Does not apply to me. I only own PC for gaming, don't own and have no intend to buy either PS4 or Xbox One.

    • +1

I bought it for $10 when Dick Smith was closing down about two years ago.

    • +1

It doesn't sound like a bargain when you said you bought it of EB a year ago for only $10 dearer … either that or the game doesn't depreciate in value as much.

  • +1

Definitely a nice price. Well worth the cash. I've noticed the price has crept down gradually from several months ago. I would hazard a guess that Red dead 2 is coming out soonish .. by Rockstar standards anyways. Not a sign that there is a new GTA. Somehow its still $57 at ebgames massive clearance sale.

  • Is Steam version better or this? Can this game be linked to Steam?

    • +4

Nah it is the social club edition. For some reason you can only buy the steam version for GTAV on steam itself.

Edit: As to which is better, the game itself is the same but people seem to prefer having the game through the steam platform rather than the rockstar social club launcher.

      • The social club's download manager and game file checking is just inferior in every way, the social club has been known to apply broken patches causing the whole game to need to re-download. If you want to verify game files because of an issue, it's a 10 step process in the social club. (Last I used it at least)

All things considered, IMO this is the best game ever made. $39 is a bargain

I just did the one play through of the campaign, which is typical for me. Didn't dabble in multiplayer, didn't replay.

I agree that it is a tremendous game and has to be considered one of the best games ever made, to date, for sure.

  • So once the single player campaign is finished, what can you do?

    Not looking for multiplayer

That's the joy of GTA… The world is so rich in content that you can spend hours just causing huge cop chases, trying to steal military vehicles, trying to skydive through the Liquor Hole sign, doing all the side quests or actually going online which is constantly updated for free. The sandbox nature plus awesome online gives it endless replayability

    • Uh mods? That's about it. Or run through all the side missions, but honestly you're missing out if you don't try out online. It's well worth it

      • I've got an xbox, but that means paying for gold….and investing time lol.

I'm looking at this or the witcher, but it sounds like I might go down that path

        • +1

Witcher is awesome as well. Do both. Both are my favourite games this gen so far.

this game should be $2 by now.

  • +1

I'd buy this again if they released a bundle with single player DLC… which will never happen because GTA Online = $$$

  • +2

Still a deal, but would point out it's currently cheaper @ Green Man Gaming. 60% OFF bringing it to $24USD ($30AUD): https://www.greenmangaming.com/games/grand-theft-auto-v/

    GTAV DLC's are also discounted!

I played GTA 5 on 360, I think definitely up there with one of the best games I've ever played. Some games are just blissful, they take you away to another world and you just want to stay there. The developers, the programmers, the designers just did an absolutely amazing job with this title, I was massively invested in the story, the characters and I just wanted to keep experiencing that world.

Not many games have given me that emotional tug into their world but this was definitely one of them.

I'll be getting this just so that I can play with FP, which is something I always wanted to be able to do on 360 but couldn't.

Honestly, RD2 can't come soon enough.

    • This. Completed it on 360 and got it v early for xb1
A beautiful game. The level of detail and thought put into it is unreal.
Recently started playing it again just to tick off some of the million little side quests or tasks
Can't wait to see how they improve on this for gta 6

  • Bought this on Xbox One for $40 from the Microsoft store like a year and a half ago…still haven't opened it…

I don't think the price will go down. It'll just bounce back up and continue to hover around the $50 price point.

  • Thanks mate… been waiting for long

  • Btw there's a discord server who does free money drops for GTA:O

    • Post/pm me link?

The Online is turning into terrible pay-to-win. Takes hours and hours of grinding missions to get the $ to unlock the DLC content (new properties and vehicles). Alternatively can spend $ on shark cards which buys you in-game cash. AU$100 doesn't get you far. Maybe one nice apartment and car and heli, but that's about it.

Then there's the cheaters who have infinite health and aimbot. Rockstar don't ban them unless that player gets like 10-reports.

      • Sharkcards are a joke. Just Google GTA GIVERs

  • +1

    never played gta, any good

  • wow such great reviews here. I'm not a massive gamer and only have a PS3, any recommendations of a good version to buy?

    • +2

Honestly, if you only have a PS3 then you can pick up the PS3 version for <$15-20 these days. It's the complete game, the ps4 version added some good features like First person mode but you're getting the full single player experience with ps3.

    • +2

Buy the PS3 version if that's your console. Still looks great on last gen so very playable :)

      • thanks for the reply…my PS3 has been sitting unused for years now. going by comments about this game I think I will do that

  • Anyone know what the trade in price is at EB? I have a brand new one still in plastic but don't want it (came with the console)

    • What console?

      • Whoops PS4 - I went down there and the answer is $21

  • Seriously considering this…I have a bunch of online friends who still play GTA V.

  • Dammit ! I just bought this last week from JB for $50 with no money bonus in GTA:Online

    • +2

Sir please hand in your OzBargain membership

  • "bonus" $1.25mil for gta online

Is the bonus on the PC edition too?

Photos only seem to show bonus for Xbox One and PS4 editions.

    • +1

Didn't notice that TBH, I'd assume it's not due to the omission of the bonus sign on its page. Definitely worth asking jb before buying. I'll add to the OP.

    • Has anyone who picked up a copy online received their cash bonus code via email yet?

  • Still got this on PS3 shrink wrapped.

Bought for $5 from the collapse of DSE

PS. Not a staff member keeping in the back. Just lucky

  • $24 USD at Green Man Gaming, says it's the Social Club version, without the $1.25M play money to go with it though. Also not sure if there's a region issue.

  • Does anyone want to buy my $1.25 million GTA 5 online credit?
Apparently sells for $22.95 online via PSN:
    https://store.playstation.com/#!/en-au/games/addons/great-wh…

    • Did you buy your copy instore or online? I'm still waiting on my code via email from my online purchase.

      • +1

Online. They just emailed me today :)
I don't play or intend to play the online game.

        • Thanks compadre. I haven't received mine yet. Will probably show up on email soon. Good luck offloading yours. Not sure what I'll do - unlikely I'll ever have time to finish the campaign let alone get into online play!
