iPhone 6 Plus Broken Glass Repair

Hi Ozbargainers

Need help here, I dropped my iPhone 6 Plus and ended with a broken glass.

Went to a non apple small mobile shop and quoted $100 for replacement, it must be a non genuine part. This price will get glass + LCD assembly as a set.

My concern is that will there be any risk of getting such 3rd party screen replacement? Anyone experienced this before and how reliable are these parts?

Checked with Apple and it'll cost me a bomb to get it done by then, might be better just to purchase a new phone if paying high price at Apple

Please let me know your thoughts and suggestion

Thabks

  • $100 is quite reasonable price for an IPhone 6 Plus screen replacement :)

    • Yes $100, but I doubt is genuine screen.

I don't mind just change the glass, but no one will do it unless I diy and it takes too much effort to separate the glass and LCD..

      Any suggestion?

      • I thought $100 is for parts and labour as well, it's not worth it to do it yourself, so risky.

If you live in Melbourne, try to go to the Asian mobile phone repairers in suburbs like Springvale, Footscray, Richmond, Box Hill etc.. I believe they will replace your screen with quite reasonable price.

        Good luck :)

        • $100 is for parts and labour

But I thought would like to keep my original lcd and find someone to just replace the glass

No luck in finding skilled technician to do such job

  • +1

ebay replacement glass+LCD from $30 delivered.

    • Yeah I saw that on eBay, but it's risky to diy as I have no experience to do it

      • it's pretty straight forward to DIY.

here is a guide from ifixit

I've used their guides to fix plenty of iphone 3,4,5's

  • Wasnt there something about touch I'd being disabled if it detected it was repaired by a third party?

    • Not sure, that's why I'm worried,

Anyone else done such repair at 3rd party repair shop?

Apple will charge a fortune for such repair and its almost 3yr old phone

Touch ID won't work if home button is replaced (or if motherboard is replaced), if it's only a screen replacement it will be fine.

Every motherboard has a paired home button, so changing either will result in fingerprint getting disabled.

  • I've had my friends use non-Apple repairers. Often the screen is not as responsive and therefore not as user frindly.

Unless you know the repairer's work will be A grade, a cheaper quote might not be worth it.

    • Hmmm then I'll better learn to live with my cracked screen

  • It's sad we kinda get screwed here for these kinds of repairs from Apple. My sister broke her iPhone 6s screen and was quoted around $460 for an official repair at Apple. But it just so happened she was about to fly over to Canada. So she took the broken phone there and got it repaired at an official Apple store in Canada. All up it cost around AU$200.

    • Wow, such a huge different??
