Suggestions for Affordable Dual Band VDSL Compatible Modem

Hey guys,

looking for suggestions for a dual band VDSL compatible modem for my NBN internet with Aussie Broadband somewhere around $100 if possible. The modem I have currently through them is not dual band so speeds vary quite a bit (between 25mbps to 85mbps on wireless) and was advised by them that since I live in an Apartment and can see around 9 available internet connections, this may be a good choice.

Cheers

  • Consider ASUS. Many models, DSL-AC52U is a touch above $100. You get DSL-ASUSWRT code and excellent user interface - you can try demo here: http://ec2-54-202-251-7.us-west-2.compute.amazonaws.com:8080…

  • Sorry to hijack but I'll also need modem for adsl offnet connection. my home is 5km from exchange and need strong wifi to cover 4 bed.

    • Get a cheapo ADSL router like a TP-Link TD-W8968 plus a Ubiquiti Pro or LR access point since you'd need to spend $400 or more for a router that has similar Wifi performance

  • For NBN, get whatever your ISP has to offer.
DO NOT buy aftermarket modems for NBN!!!
Since the LNP stuff up the NBN roll out and consist of mix technologies, most aftermarket modems are not compatible with our infrastructure and will need some tweeking around with settings and even then, will not see great improvements or even less then an ISP provided modem.
Only if your lucky to have the proper NBN FTTP/B which aftermarket NBN modem were designed for, just save yourself the headaches and buy what the ISP offers.
