My daughter is going to China soon and wondering if it is cheap and viable to buy an iPhone 8 whilst there. Does anyone have any experience with buying an iPhone in China and using it here in Aus. Thanks

correct. Chinese mainlanders actually smuggle apple stuff from HK and sell it to other mainlanders to make a quick buck whenever a new iphone comes. Then they set up street stalls like they sell food and sell tonnes of iphones in a single day before the authorities have time to crack down.

I visited the Apple store in Shanghai a few years ago and the prices there were certainly no cheaper than in Australia.

Probably not, as I understand there is an Chinese import tax levied on these kind of things so the price on the mainland isn't that great.
Maybe Hong Kong?
