Thanks, I was myself looking to make this post. I have shortlisted the following phones:

LG V30- Specs looks good, and I am hoping some deal for $4xx will come up. Yeah, can wait for 2-3 months.
Note 8- Excellent phone, but the battery is too small and Expensive compared to the V30.
S8- Decent price and I don't use the S-pen but can't miss out dual cameras.
iPhone X- If I get this I will not need to buy a new phone for at least two years, but this piece of crap misses out on fingerprint so NOPE!
Xiaomi Mi A1- It costs $300 (fits my budget), but I am happy to wait for 2-3 months if I can get the v30 for under $500.

So it's all messed up for me as my nexus 6p won't start (boot loop issue). I am confused too.

It isn't using last years specs like the G6 was don't expect such a price drop so fast.

      • Yes then I am between S8 and S8+, can't afford the note 8 if I be realistic.

If the V30 and S8 are the same price i'd go the V30 i hate that god damn curved screen crap they have.

        • @Axelstrife: I like the V30 too (Voted for it in poll). I might just wait for it then.

Agreed, the V30 ticks all the boxes. I assume demand will be high so prices won't fall for ages like the G6 that got average camera reviews.

      • Yea releaded in S Korea today and its pretty much priced where they said it would be… $850 USD for the 64gb and $885 USD i was sold as long as it came in around there

    • So it's all messed up for me as my nexus 6p won't start (boot loop issue).

Still willing to take a hit on another LG phone?

      • Fixed it long back. I ended up getting redmi note 4 lol for $200. I am loving this phone (4000mah).

        • Redmi Note 4 vs Mi A1? Which one would you suggest?

        • @virhlpool: Mi A1 hands down. I personally prefer Redmi note 4 though because of it's batteyr life. Also, Despite being stock android user for ages, I now enjoy MIUI (Because of addition features, love them). Plus, you can always install google now launcher + stock android theme, this way I get the best of both.

        • @virhlpool: Good Enjoy. I bet you have very well spent your money. I was a phone maniac but maybe it's just not right to spend so much money on a smartphone (idk I am becoming more responsible/stingy).

Pixel 2 is coming out as well, though still pricey

Was very excited about the v30 to start with but am beginning to get turned off by the thought of waiting for an indefinite time for it to release, especially when there are so many good grey market deals on the S8 and S8+ popping up. Won't pull the trigger on anything till the new pixel shows up, even though nothing I've heard about that one points to it being a must buy.

    • Yeah, I am sick of waiting for v30.

  • I was hoping to get a S8+ but baulked at the last minute, all the ebay deals are over now too. I was in JB and noticed the oppo r9s plus and huawei mate 8, they are both wider than the s8+ which imo would be pretty damn handy? The s8+ screen seems really stretched while the 2 I mentioned have a 80mm width. No one seems to focus on the width with phones just the screen size which is kind of frustrating. Thoughts?

V30, Pixel 2 XL (which is likely going to be based heavily on V30), or Mate 10 are the handsets I'm looking at. Just waiting on pricing and availability info.

V30 or possibly the Pixel 2 for me.
I've loyally stuck with 3 iterations of Note phones, and am still using my Note 4 to this day (as I've not deemed anything a worthy upgrade), but the Note 8 just doesn't impress me that much, and I hate all the Bigsby nonsense. Time for a change.

    • +1

Agree that Note8 is not a 4-version upgrade on the Note4, for the price points its pitched at.
No news on when v30 is coming out…Canada suggests next week? Spoke with LG, but they got nothing. Only ones out appear to be the Korean-configured models with Korean apps, etc.

Also, think the form factor, being stretched is not "right" for me. Might need getting used to for a movie, but no idea how productivity apss will work here (occasional spreadsheets, etc).

  • First time buying a phone outright, is this a good purchase?
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/LG-V30-64GB-LG-V300-Aurora-Black-…

    • think its overpriced…as "supposed" price is to be ~$1000.
Also, suspect that this is the model based for Korea (as per all other ebays ads for V30) - this one doesn't say that

Awesome US Telco deal for the v30: get TWO x v30's for $38/month

  • Any ideas when this will be available here? Need a new phone by mid-Nov so if this isn't available then, I'll probably be preordering the iPhone X.

  • Screen is horrible for the V30.

      Compared to what?
For pure black, note8 is better. But at flagship level between all makes, going to be hard to see the difference.
And in daylight, nothing is as good as the Amoled screen, but this V30 is getting v. close (p-OLED)
V30 supports HDR, so a bit of future proofing once this format gets pushed through, take advantage of that too

But its the audio (quad-dac), earphones (B&O) and camera that do it for me, as well as better form shape.

so, if you're talking about camera screens:
V30 low light camera outperforms Note8, but video is better with Note 8
Selfie camera is only 5mp, but that's an individual thing.
However, post video processing with V30 is better supported through 3rd party processing (which LG give you some tips on).
      Better functionality on the V30
Note 8 better for zoom (telephoto/macro shots), but V30 has better wide angle —> more usable for group photos - won't need to step back to get in all the detail —> more impt for me

Talking about display screen, for a flagship in 2017, there's no excuse for the quality of this screen.

        • Yep…was picked up that viewing the phone at an angle (something that I always do when recording, watching a video, browsing, texting….not), there was some movement to a blue hue. Note that these photos bring it out as there is no ambient light in the surrounding, so again, its not likely that you'll see this extreme is 99.9% of the time. NB watching your phone in bed is not good for you regardless of the phone.

A better all-round review is here, not a one photo to make up your entire mind.
          https://www.gsmarena.com/lg_v30-review-1657p3.php

There are many faults with other screens and the lighting they use - they just aren't all perfect.

Also, its $300 less that a Note 8 at RRP…(see below post)

  • LG suggest Australian release is to be November 16 - no word on who will they will be partnered with

"Set for release early next month, the LG V30 Plus will be available from JB Hi-Fi for $1,199, putting the price of LG's premium flagship handset well below its flagship rivals, the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 ($1,499) and the Google Pixel 2 XL ($1,549) in Australia."

LG's larger premium smartphone will debut in Australia in November for $1199.
LG used its IFA press conference to formally launch the LG V30, the latest in the manufacturer's V series premium handsets. It's LG's first phone running on the Snapdragon 835 where the LG G6 launched at MWC 2017 used the older Snapdragon 821. However, at the launch event, there was scant mention of any Australian launch date.

That's because as it turns out, we won't officially see the LG V30 here locally at all, at least through official LG channels. Instead, we'll see the slightly pumped up LG V30+ model instead. Like the V30, the LG V30+ features a 6 inch 2880x1440 pixel display with a floating bar in place of the second screen bar that occupied the top of previous V series phones, as well as dual wide and standard angle cameras at the rear.

So how does the V30+ earn its plus designation? The big difference between the two handsets is the included storage. Where the LG V30 has 64GB onboard, the V30+ features 128GB of storage, although both phones can have their storage increased via microSD in any case. The LG V30+ will also come with a high-end pair of LG headphones in the box to differentiate it from the regular model.

LG Australia will make the LG V30+ available in Australia from November 2017 at an outright price of $1199 through JB Hi-Fi. There's no sign of carrier deals for the new phone as yet, but we'll update if any are announced.

  • Anyone know if the v30 and v30+ phone case are the same?

  • LG has finally updated their website with information about the V30+ ,
As already discussed $1199 from JB-Hifi and available on the 16th November.
No sign of carrier information yet :(
