We are talking of different prices though.. ~$80 more. Plus, ZTE Axon 7 is a model from 2016. Not a bad phone. You will find comparative reviews online. I reckon Xiaomi is a better brand overall though no NFC and Band 28 on Mi A1. But those issues don't affect most users much.
Wouldn't worry too much about the Axon 7 being 2016 model. It still uses the 800 series SoC which is faster than the 625.
The Xiaomi A1 is one of the last released with the 625 SoC. Which helps to keep the price down. Phones with the replacement 630 SoC (like the Moto X4) were available one month after the A1.
Best thing going for the A1 is it should get Android 9 since Android One phones "will receive at least two years of OS upgrades". And it is $80 cheaper.
Does anyone know how much is the maximum 4G speeds you can get without Band 28 in Melbourne on Optus network ?
Just depends where you are ( whether your getting good strong signal coming from other 4G/3G towers, or if the signal where you are is mainly from a B28/700mHz tower ).
I just got my Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 and looks like where I live I will have to use Vodafone as this model phone has B5 ( used by Vodafone often in regional or newer 4G areas ) but lacking B28 so not getting good signal for data if any 4G at all even sometimes.

I ordered and paid for a Xiaomi Mi A1 (Rose Gold 4GB/64GB) from gearbest on the 5th Jan. 10 days later the order is still processing… (pretty disappointing service, seems like they are selling items that they don't have, even though it's advertised as in-stock and not a pre-order).
I would recommend contacting them. Mine was shipped a few days back otherwise I was planning to send them an email.
