This one has free AU Direct Express Shipping too. If you click Proceed to Checkout in the shopping cart you can choose the shipping method before payment.

You can also get it for ~$273 AU if you pay in USD and use a CC without conversion fees set to use it's own currency conversion in Paypal.

    • +2

how long does the AU direct express shipping usually take to let's say Sydney Aus? And do you have stock ready to ship or do we have to wait a few weeks before the phone is shipped.

      • +6

The phone is instock. Processing typically takes a couple of days, but can take up to a week. AU Direct typically takes 5-8 business days. Much quicker than the standard 30 business day free shipping.

        • Hi Clear, I ordered 2 of these phones early on Wednesday the 10th. The order is still sitting as “Payment Confirmed (Processing)”. I've tried asking for updates via online chat / email , but haven't got anywhere. Any chance you could look into order 4378806 for me and get an update? I was hoping to gift these phones to my folks that are visiting us from the UK next week. Even if they dispatch on Wednesday the 17th (1 full week of “Payment Confirmed (Processing)”) with the 5-8 business day shipping that should be ok.

          Much appreciated!

        • +1

          @Symbiotic: I'll find out.

        • +1

@Clear: Hi Clear. I think there is a whole bunch of us that ordered around the 7th and are stuck on “Payment confirmed”. Any info would be gratefully received. Cheers

        • @Clear: Got a helpful operator on the live chat last night. They told me a phone case was out of stock and that was holding up my order. They removed the case and processed a refund for it. Was good to get it resolved but I'd previously asked a few operators if anything was holding up the order and they said no.

The order process has moved on a step and it's marked as "shipped" - so that's definitely good progress. The current Australia post tracking reads "looks like your item hasn't been scanned yet", though. Can't complain - if it has shipped out in under a week that's excellent for a popular new phone.

        • +1

@Symbiotic: Good to hear that it was only the case being held up. Item not being scanned means it hasn't been scanned through their processing centre yet. It'll come right soon.

        • @Clear: Hmmm it was marked as "shipped" on the evening of the 15th, but still no movement on the shipping on the 18th.

Seeking help on the Redmi Note 4X. I bought one from the previous deal but it does not have Australia in the region selection. Hence when sending / receiving SMS, the “0” in front of the Aussie mobile number drops out resulting in my carrier charging me international SMS rates and/or SMS not being received by the party at the other end too. Any one found a solution to this *including selecting the region?

Had asked this question before too in a different thread and someone suggested to use Singapore as the region. This however has not fixed the problem I am facing. Beware that Xiaomi phones are not made for Australian regoin and hence when you receive an SMS on the mobile, it will truncate the “0” and when replying to this message, you will be charged international SMS charges! Is happening with my Amay Sim.

      Thanks in advance.

      • Tried Vietnam?

        • Are you serious or joking?

I would love this being cleared up too for my Redmi Note 4 Global Version.

        • +1

Interesting.. Has anyone experienced this in Mi A1 here? Haven't found this in any forums.

        • @virhlpool:

As the MiA1 is running pure Android, is there also no Australia as a region?

        • +1

          @ozhunter68:

          I haven't received my Mi A1 phone yet so I wouldn't know.

If anyone is using the phone, please confirm.

        • +1

@ozhunter68: Xiaomi have never had Australia as a region. Singapore/Vietnam has always worked for Australians. This is the first I've heard of it not working in the years Xiaomi have been on OzBargain and Whirlpool.

        • @Clear:

Cheers. I have not used mine yet as a phone as my porting from Optus Prepaid to Kogan Mobile has now been held up for 3 working days ( looks like I am on the bad list after activating too many Free Kogan XL sims over two months with same account name and debit card haha, altough now I am using a $4.90 XL Voucher, they say not much but are investigating ).

I set my region to Singapore as recommended, so that and Vietnam should be fine then.

      • +1

@TD, I had the exact same problem on my Lenovo K3 note, which I think ordered from Gearbest about 3 years ago.

        • Yes and unfortunately no clarity / solution other than selecting random regions for trial and error. These are seriously good phones for the price but really as a consumer I’m beginning to think that I’m just better off buying a phone which has Australia as one of the region selection considering the potential heavy price for international sms later on (in this case). Plus warranty is also an issue if one gets a lemon.

      • I've used Singapore or Hong Kong as region on several RN4x - never been an issue for me.

Used Optus and Kogan as carriers.

Why do you think it's the region that's making the "0" drop?

    • +1

Hi Clear, any option on the other colours?

    • Looking to pickup a black and a gold version. Any chance the code can be extended to work on the 64gb gold version?

      • +1

I'll see if I can get that going tonight.

        • Much appreciated!

        • @Symbiotic: thanks Clear, appreciate your efforts!

        • I just tried the code for a rosegold one and it said it reached the maximum. Could you please check?
I had items more than USD 229 in the cart.

        • +1

          @yogiU: It's working again now.

          @Yuri Lowell: Thank you!!

    • Hi,
I ordered this phone on 6 Jan 2018 to present to someone on 28 Jan, (expecting I will receive within 8 to 10 days as per advertisement). Today is 29th and I still haven't received it. Tracking number is BRE168045101000935107. Had I knew it will take so long I would have never ordered it, and on the top I had to buy a new present for the Occassion.

Thanks. Ordered one for my friend. Better cashback rate is a bonus. About 274.12 AUD with my CBA credit card.

Just received the Mi Max 2 from geekbuying, essentially the same phone but the screen is an inch bigger (6.44"),
and the battery has an extra 2300mah (5300mah) and only costs around $20.00 more than this. otherwise with the same tech specs (the back has only one camera though)

I would highly recommend either, I am extremely happy with this phone.

The major difference among some and why people opt for Mi A1 is Android One. Mi A1 is Xiaomi's first Android One phone, which offers the purest of Android experience without MIUI layer unlike other Xiaomi phones. Mi Max 2 is a nice phone for sure though.

Also, some people don't like large screens. For me, even 5.5" is big but I ended up going for it as 5" didn't have many options in the price range I was looking in.

      • I am on the other hand looking forward to the even bigger Mi Max 3 to be released. Hopefully can have some offers soon.

        • You should just go for a tablet rather than 'phablet' in that case :-)

        • @virhlpool: But tablet cannot make calls and have a phone number, so Mi Max series is perfect for my liking, ha ha.

        • +1

Yeah from what I have seen so far the mi max 3 looks awesome, same size but with 7" screen.

Being able to buy these for around $300 means I can ditch my 'only every 2 years' rule.

Though I did make that only every 2 years rule when I had apple phones and now we all know why that was a necessary upgrade.

        • +2

@xev: I reckon Xiaomi products are fit for even 'once a 3-years' rule as long as you choose the right product and timing so the tech doesn't become obsolete whilst hardware still remains strong.

        • yeah, i just think we are in the middle of a major change atm with screens going to 'zero bezels' and though there are such phone from other 'cheap asian' brands that are aleady doing this, I think we will quickly see improvements to mid range phones, such as the mi max 3 which will come out in around 6 months with the same size form factor but be almost all screen.

      • +2

I went with the Mi Max 2 specifically because I wanted the larger screen.

I was going to change to straight android installation if i didn't like the Miui 9 but so far am loving it with no issues

  • +2

I received this phone 5 days ago and I’m very impressed.
Still getting used to the bigger screen size in one hand though as my last phone was the moto g3.

    • +2

Each to their own, but I wish this phone was 5". Perfect size for pockets as well.

everytime I ordered from geekbuying. they always take their time to dispatch the order sometimes takes 3 months for the order to fulfill and is hard to get refund…

    Beware

    • -1

Please read the comment from @Clear (rep) on the top about the stock and timeline.

      • +3

It was the same as before. I order something and they Have it in stock, and yet still not dispatched up to a months…., and the day they dispatch using DHL it tooks 3 weeks to arrive, and the tracking they gave was not live until 2 1/2 week after order was dispatched. just beware.. i dont said that you guys shouldn't buy, just beware…

        • +1

I ordered a Mi Max 2 from Geekbuying on the 22nd of December and received it on the 4th of January.

Not bad considering it was over the Xmas/New Years period

        • +1

Well… on Monday it’ll be 2 full weeks since some people ordered…and there’s been no movement so far on the shipping. 5-8 business days when it actually ships equals more than 3 weeks delivery time. So your warning was well founded. I wish I’d seen it.

        • +1

          @Symbiotic:

told you… eventually they will ship out.. but its takes forever…. if u buy from gearbest is faster….

  • Any chance of a deal on the Mijia bedside lamp anytime soon?

    • Which one are you after? They have a few.

      • This one
        https://www.gearbest.com/smart-lighting/pp_1032313.html

I've been browsing xiaomi products after the last gb deal and now want this light, but I cannot justify spending more than $50 aud (inc shipping) on a bed lamp :/

Spent too much on random smart home things already, which have been cool and convenient but never life changing.

        • which have been cool and convenient but never life changing.

So true. In some things it is the same or rather more effort getting them done automatically as compared to standing up and doing them manually or through remote, for example. Since we have spent time and money on buying this automation stuff, we still try to use it to justify the cost to ourselves.

I doubt if it can ever be life-changing though. Pain is not in changing a song on YouTube or switching on an AC, the real pain is in cooking and cleaning the mess afterwards or gardening or cleaning bathrooms. There you go, automation..

Thanks. Smashed up my good ole Redemi Note 3 today. Ordered.

  • Mine is running Oreo now, rooted with recovery without issue.
Using the hacked Pixel camera for better picture quality.
Being SD625 and 64/4GB there isn't any major bottleneck or slowdown.
I also own both Pixel 2's, in comparison I would say it feels much like the pixel, just in slow motion. No phone in the world has the smooth speed and responsiveness of the Pixel 2 but the A1 is constant to itself, eg. Slow motion Pixel.

Dual Sim makes it a great backup for going out with personal and work sims in a phone that doesn't cost $1400, I can't be the only one who has a phone for times when I don't want to take out a flagship. Pub/concert/beach/doing dodgy shit or whatever.

    • Slow in what sense.. anything major in day to day work?

      • As i said, there is no major bottleneck or slowdown as the CPU is reasonable and it has 4GB RAM and no bloat.
Things take a little longer to load and the frame rate/response is not the same as the pixel 2, but neither is an iphone 8/X in my opinion.
So its a pixel like experience but slower.

    • Can you please link to the ROM and Pixel camera mod?

  • Can anyone say why there's such a price difference between the A1 and the Redmi Note 4 (~150USD) considering their specs seem to be so similar?

    • +4

You're paying for the stock Android experience. If that isn't particularly important to you, you'd probably be better off with the Note 4(X). You get a bigger battery with the Note phones too.

      • Is it a very different experience using Android One? Worth $150?

        • +2

I haven't used Xiaomi's MiUI so I can't compare. I don't see many complaints about it so I assume it's pretty good and not too bloated.

As far as I know the A1 has been guaranteed updates through to Android P so it should be supported for a while (OS-wise, anyway). I looked at the A1 to upgrade from my ageing Nexus 4 (one of the spiritual predecessors to the Android One project), but it just didn't tick enough boxes for me. The Nexus 4 was so far ahead of the curve in 2012 I stood to lose things like NFC by "upgrading" which seemed counter-intuitive.

I ended up picking up a used LG G5 off eBay for ~$150. SD820, Adreno 530, 5.3" QHD 1440x2560 16:9(!) screen, 4GB RAM, good camera, NFC, band 28, removable battery. Basically the same hardware as a V20 (which sell for ~$350 to ~$450 second hand) with a more manageable screen size.

        • +2

@Nomadesque: Used phone can be tricky sometimes. G5 doesn't have bootlooping issues like G4.. right?

Also, I come from LG G4 to MiA1 due to phone's death by bootlooping. I don't call lack of NFC and Band 28 as a downgrade though.

        • +2

@virhlpool: The G5 has been added to the bootloop class action in the US along with the G4, 5X, V10 and V20.

LG have acknowledged the G4 issues ("loose contact between components") and the 5X to a lesser extent although LG were still offering full refunds for the 5X in the US for phones within warranty due to "unavailability of parts".

If you look on sites like Whirlpool, the 5X and G4 threads have many complaints about bootloops whereas the other models' threads are fairly quiet. Based on that I was happy to give a second hand G5 a go and it seems to be working well apart from the battery needing replacement (~$25). I honestly think the addition of further models to the bootloop class action are more about people having an axe to grind with LG rather than the issues being widespread.

Xiaomi products have no Australian guarantee so you're effectively at the mercy of the supplier if anything goes wrong which is not much different to buying a second hand phone in my opinion.

Basically every phone has detractors or people saying that there are faults even if you spend $1000+ on a current generation flagship. Personally I'd prefer to buy something second hand that has lasted for ~2 years and hasn't exhibited any issues rather than shelling out big bucks to be an early adopter (cough beta tester) for a new product.

        • @Nomadesque:

Thanks for your feedback on your research and experience. I like your outlook and opinion regarding mobile phones, similar to myself I feel.

I also bought a new Nexus 4 8GB model ( $270 delivered run out deal from Google ) back in the day and if it was not for lacking 4G ( live in a bad reception area for all three carriers ), would have kept using that for much longer than I did as it worked flawlessly and I loved using it.

Bought many various cheap prepaid phones since then, some for fun to try some new features and many for the inclusion of all 3G/4G bands ( mainly needing B5 and B28 on top of the others ) as I often use phones for their cheap prepaid data offers or as a hotspot.

Have been looking for over two years at Xiaomi phones with a keen eye, mainly the Note 3 ( especially Kate edition ), as well as the newer Note 4 and now the Note 4 Global version/4X and this newer MiA1 and after waiting for a Kate edition ( B28 ) for the last three and not one arriving till now, and also the RN3 Kate edition no longer being available new.
Finally I pulled the trigger on a Note 4 32GB/3GB black deal from Gearbest for AU$171 delivered. Received it last week and although I really like it so far and is great value for the price, for me here the lack of B28 is really letting it down and will severely cripple the performance for me, so will have to stick to using Vodafone as it does have their B5, but for me pretty much renders the dual sim 3G/4G funtion useless and will probably sell it after having some fun with it first.

Might take up your advice and look out for a good working order LG G5 for a low price and fingers crossed they it won't bootloop lol.

        • +1

          @ozhunter68:

will probably sell it after having some fun with it first.

Love your hobby. What fun are you looking at trying with Note 4?

        • @virhlpool:

After more than two years of reading comments good and bad about MIUI I want to have a good look at it with all their features/lack off.

This is the largest screen phone ( also has capasitive keys ) I have owned, so making browsing and video watching nicer ( yes, I do have laptop and tablet, but as I'm out travelling in car a lot phone works well ). Currently where I live we do not use a TV, so phone is used for me for entertainment.

I also do not have a phone contract ( have not had one for over thirteen years ), nor have an internet contract, but use cheap prepaid for both. So as I save a lot on bills, as well as source good cheap tech for friends and family, I can spend some money on a few smartphones, tablets and computers, as most end up as economical tech for myself and others.
