Japan Sim for Travel in November 2017

Hi Guys,

Going to tokyo mid-late November (leaving 15th) and looking to get 2 sim cards so that I can facetime call my partner and browse the internet. I think we'd need some decent speed, coverages and preferably unlimited I guess?

Thanks in Advance

  • Have a look at some of the existing threads…. Here's one https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/269936

Some things you need to consider is how long you will be there as some sim cards expire on a week basis (ie 7,14,21,28 days), if you can get a wireless hotspot and where you want to pick up the sim (delivered to aus or pick up in Japanese airport).

When I went for 20 days I purchased the jp mobile data only sim on ebay 4gb for 30days. I made an offer on ebay for $40 and timed it with a discount so got it for cheap. Looks like they've removed the make an offer option since the cards aren't expiring soon.

PS when updating carrier settings on your phone make sure to use your device's default browser

  • B-mobile does a great travel sims - Doesn't do hotspot though. For running around Japan it can't be beat.

    5GB 21 Days 3500 yen

    Unlimited 14 days 2380 yen

If you're going for just over 2 weeks then get the 14 day (it's much better value). Just wait to start it so you have unlimited till the end of your trip.

    • Looks like the Unlimited 14 days 2380 yen is no longer available :(

  • We used the bmobile one as mentioned above and that worked great for us. We did have a little trouble finding it though, went to a few shops that were all out of stock before we found some.

Bic Camera or Yodabashi Camera is where to find them

  • I'm staying for two months! Any suggestions on relatively long stays reganrding sim? 5 gigs/ month should be sufficient …

    • are you studying there or just going on a really long holiday?

  • B-mobile, buy online and have it ready for collection at airport PO (depending on opening hours) or posted to your hotel
