With the iPhone 8 just out and the iPhone X release just around the corner I thought it was time to start looking for affordable chargers which are capable of the iPhone's "quick charge" function. Quick charge for iPhones is delivered through USB PD and rather than pay the ~$69.00 they charger for a 29w charger at Officeworks I thought some might like to order one of these Anker ones or get one for a spare. Now it does come with a US type plug so you will need an adapter if you want to use it. Hopefully with the release of the iPhone it will mean more Au plug USB PD chargers will be released in future. You will still need to purchase a lightning to USB C cable from Apple to make this work, as far as I know they are currently the only ones who sell this cable.

Also might be a good charger for Nintendo Switch or USB PD powerbank users.

Premiering the Speed Series, PowerPort Speed 1 implements advanced charging technology to deliver never-before-seen high-speed charging. Power Delivery provides up to 30W of pure power—enough to charge even the most power-hungry USB devices at full-speed.

Output:5V/3A

  • I like anker

    • Damn that was a fast reply, just posted this up!

I contacted Anker a couple of weeks ago about this exact wall charger and they said they "currently have no plans" to release one with an AU plug. Disappointing.

    • darn….

  • I prefer the chargers that take a figure 8 cable, so I can use an Australian cable and not muck about with adapters. Usually adapters are loose fitting and give a bad connection, hanging off a wall… I'll wait for a better price on something more like this:

Happy to be corrected and I'm probably missing something, but is the 30W advertised correct? My understanding is that Power = Current x Voltage (P=IV) then 5V x 3A = 15W.
Just thinking it could be that the continuous flow is 3A and it can deliver bursts of 6A, so up to 30W I guess

    • My Macbook 12" USB-C Charger claims to be 29W. Underside says 14.5V @ 2A in USB PD mode, or 5.2V 2.4A normal charge.
So maybe this one can do 15V at 2A for PD mode, or 5V 3A in regular USB charge mode, (just guessing). But valid questions smurftastic

    • The output of this charger is:

      • 5V 3A
      • 9V 3A
      • 15V 2A
      • 20V 1.5A

30W max output is achieved when running at 15V 2A or 20V 1.5A.

      • Bit confused with power delivery usb chargers. and laptops. I haven't used or heard of it until now - just ordered a heap of usb to usb-c connected cables for my samsung s8 etc and was looking into power delivery.

correct my understanding but to charge a laptop via usb c i.e. powerdelivery, aren't they 60w or 100w requirements??

Does one just need a 30w usb c charger, and a usb c to usb c cable (do you need a 3.0a cable? or a 2.4a is sufficient) to use pwoer delivery to charge laptops? Sorry abit new to the subject…

        • correct my understanding but to charge a laptop via usb c i.e. powerdelivery, aren't they 60w or 100w requirements??

          https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USB#PD

          USB-PD rev. 1: "… up to 2 A at 5 V (10 W), and optionally up to 3 A or 5 A at either 12 V (36 W or 60 W) or 20 V (60 W or 100 W)."

          USB-PD rev. 2: "… four normative voltage levels at 5 V, 9 V, 15 V, and 20 V … any maximum source output power from 0.5 W to 100 W."

See power profiles/rules for both revisions to the right of text in link.

So in short, depending on the charger/device/profile/rule, PD can work on 10/18/36/60/100W (rev. 1) or any max output from 0.5 to 100W (rev. 2). Also, using a lower output charger compared to stock = longer charge times, or might not charge if discharge rate > charging rate. Take note of certain manufacturers that use proprietary connectors or use charging locks via implementation of DRM.

do you need a 3.0a cable? or a 2.4a is sufficient

3A capable cables will handle up to 60W and electronically marked 5A ones up to 100W. E-marked ones also allow 10Gbps transfer speed (USB 3.1). But if your question is related to the product in this deal, then I assume any proper Type-C to Type-C cable should be able to max out this charger.

  • @Jusdrin agree Bought a 5 port unit from Amazon ordered 27thAug delivered 8th Sept a brilliant piece of kit. Just needed to get local figure 8 cable form OW.

        ssamjang'd already done so.

    • Great find! I have pre-ordered one of these just now. Cheers!

Well the other one has been confirmed to work with iPhones. This one I'm not so sure of not to mention you still have the issues of needing an adapter. Xiaomi vs Anker they are both great brands so it is a matter of preference however if it does work this would be better with 45w for other products and free shipping currently.

I posted this one also hoping to get other's opinions on what would work best, so I think Remorhaz's BlitzWolf BW-S10 30W USB PD is probably the best option.

      • Xiaomi 45W support 9V 1.65A (15W) for iphone8 fast charging.

        • Your link is a 403?

        • @UponOccasion:

? It works for me. Try this, but it's chinese language. Testing 26 different charges with iphone 8 plus.

        • @go2home:

          That one worked thanks.

Hmm.. Interesting article. I was able to read enough to understand, it didn't include the Xiaomi charger in the mix but given those other brands worked Xiaomi should. I would definitely trust it over some of those other third party chargers.

        • @UponOccasion:

This review including 2 different Xiaomi chargers:

          Xiaomi 65W (小米65W) got 14.96V/1.02A,15.35W
          Xiaomi 45W (小米45W) got 9.1V/1.65A,15.06W

          not too much difference.

        • Thanks for the link. The ChargerLab POWER-Z looks good. Around 60 AUD from China on eBay.

          USB-C PD, QC3.0 / 2.0, MTK PE, FCP, AFC, Apple 2.4A etc.

The Satech is the only other decent PD sniffer that I've seen.

        • @go2home:

Are they number 12 and 13 on the list?

        • @futaris:

Never heard of ChargerLab before, can you vouch for their quality?

        • @go2home:

Ok thanks. It's good to have this confirmed.
