What Brand of Air Conditioner to Buy?

Will be buying a well known brand, but they all seem pretty much around the same ask, Daikin, Mitsubishi, Samsung, LG, Panasonic.

Which brand do I buy and why?

Thanks

  • One that doesn't use a lot of WATTS

Jokes aside it really depends on how you plan to use it

    • Thanks for reply

1 unit in kitchen, and 2 units in 2 bedrooms

Do i go for a single multi large kW head unit, or 3 seperate units?

      • Thats dictated my many factors. I personally chose many units, because something that not many people know is that smaller units are more efficient. Often by 20% or more. I want to run mine year round, which means that the higher initial cost will quickly be offset by the lower ongoing costs of running it. For you that many be different.

  • The good one

If buying these, they are much to muchness. So whatever you like the look off and is priced right.

They all have 5 yr warranty.

    My person pref is Mitsubishi

    • Thanks for feedback

I am leaning towards Mitsu too

Did you know they have 2 Mitsubishi air-con importers in AUS? How weird!

There are two types of Mitsubishi air cons, one is meant to be good - I think Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, not the normal Mitsubishi.

WE are happy Panasonic customers, parents and sister have that brand too. Our is an 8 year warranty (5 plus free 3 year extra from some deal)
They cool the home great in the Qld summer, nice and warm in winter and quiet inside and outside.

        • @ PVA Both are GOOD, MHI are built slightly different. Oversized outside units, which work better in 24x7 units or higher temps.

          Either works fine.

      • Yes I did!

I myself have Mitsubishi Heavy Industries units, but also used mitsubishi electric units. Both are good.

Funny, they are both owned by the mitsubishi parent company too! Strange, but it seems to be working for them.

        • OK, i just remember reading here and Whirlpool that the Heavy Industries ones are much better.

  • Personally either Daikin or Panasonic are the top two contenders. I bit the bullet & bought a Panasonic last week on the ebay 18% sale. Pick it up tomorrow so can't give any feedback as yet.

Don't bother with a Fujitsu ducted system.

We've got one & it's broken down a couple of times now & the parts required weren't stocked in Australia by Fujitsu on each occasion, so it will likely be out of action until the part arrives from o/s, as was the case for us even though it was the latest system at the time it broke down.

The first time it broke down in summer not long after it was installed & we waited just over a month for the part to arrive, only to be told by the tech guy swapping it over they sent the incorrect part & we'd have to wait for the correct one to come from o/s again. After nearly 2 months of no a/c in the middle of summer I complained to Fujitsu's head office who thankfully acknowledged the delays for parts to arrive was unacceptable & the whole system was swapped over the very next day.

Also Fujitsu reverse cycle systems realy struggle to push out cold air when the outside temperature climbs over 40 degrees. If/when the system dies I'll be replacing it with an Actron Air system. From the research I've done online lately they appear to be the best system for australian conditions.

+1 my Fujitsu unit is absolute crap compared to my two Mitsubishi heavy industries units. Noisy and ineffective.

  • I got a Mitsubishi Heavy Industries one from Bunnings. Warmest Tassie winter I've ever had and my power bill was only $500.

I think we got a 5% discount too using my Power Pass card.

Not sure how it will cool in summer, but I probably won't need the cooling function down here anyway as last summer was pretty cool in this house.

  • MHI wins it, and a cash back starts Nov.1

We had a Fujitsu split system installed a few years ago. Going well so far, not noisy either.

Whatever brand you go for, err on the side of a unit that is over-powered for the space. Better to have an over-rated aircon that just chugs along, than a small unit that is constantly working at 100%
