Best QLD AGL electricity rates compared to Alinta energy's rates

Hi
We live in Qld and recently signed up to Alinta but are now considering staying with AGL as they are also offering 25% off the base electricity rate.

Just wondering whether anyone has been offered a better rate from AGL than 25% and whether it is possible to get a term of 2 years (like Alinta)?

I noticed that the term offered by AGL is only 1 year, which means having to go through the whole process again soon. Plus AGL charge a 0.45% payment fee, whereas Alinta do not seem to.

Also, how long does it take to switch over, as I would hate to be paying the base rate without a discount for months. Is there any set time-frame within which the transfer must be made?

Are there any other pros or cons I am missing or not aware of? I really hate going through this process and know that it sound simplistic, but just wish that everyone would be charged the lowest possible rate to being with.

Thanks :-)

  • I switched over to Alinta, but I rang AGL before I did asking them to match it and the answer was a flat out NO. So I took my business to Alinta and had an other 2 months left before the switch over to Alinta. A month after signing up with Alinta, AGL rang and offered 26% discount and I asked for it for 2 years and they agreed and they said the discount would be instant.

You can get around the 0.45% fee with direct debit I guess (I wasnt aware of that fee until this post!)

  • +1

be careful in your comparisons. although they might say they have a 25% discount you need to check all the details carefully. different tarriffs and a 25% can be offset by hidden monthly fees.

  • You cant just look at the discount and not the cents/kWh or supply charge.

The whole electricity market is out to bamboozle you, 95% of people are fooled by it too. Alinta just have a massive marketing campaign at the moment. Alinta are not the cheapest, you can get better rates elsewhere.

I have 27% discount with Click Energy (hidden plan accessible by call centre).
Tariff 11 @ 30.165cents/kwh ex GST which comes down to $22.0204cents/kwh ex GST with the discount.

    • What's the daily charge and Tariff 33 please.

      • All usage 28.096 cents per kWh
Daily Supply Charge 4.356 cents per day

        27% discount on that….

        • thanks.

that T11 daily is pretty high 138.956 cents per day

        • @PVA:
Daily rate really doesn't matter as you will only have 90 of them per bill.

Its the kw/h charge that is more important as you have 1000's of them per bill

  • Origin is offering 21% off supply and usage now.
They are the cheapest I've found. % discount is not lower but their base rates are. Click Energy add ~8.5% to their base rates and then give you the discount so its not the cheapest.
After 21% discount your rates will be:
    Supply $0.9021
    Usage 19.36c

Just call Origin they will do the 21% off base rates for 12 months.

    • Hi Juice
Yes, they seem to be the cheapest, but in 12 months I would then need to go through the whole process again. Plus I was told it takes a few months to switch over, meaning you don't get any sort of discount during that time. For the time being I have opted to stay with AGL. 26% off for a 2 year term is pretty good and I get an uninterrupted discount on my electricity, as well as Flybuys points.

  • Old thread but I have just been offered 30 percent off AGL after already starting the move to Alinta

    • That's what I'm hoping will happen to us - just chatted with AGL they said no to matching. So will give Alinta a go and hope AGL come to the party.

      • They waited until 2 days before the cutoff to make me the offer

        • Well I just got the phone call. 26% for 2 years. I'm happy with that for the moment, giving they only gave me 8 for the recontract. Final hour call. They said they will take care of the
Alinta side of things. I hope they do.

    • LOL - They must have lost quite a few customers to force them to come up to 30%. Gave me the run around too much before they eventually came up to 26% after initiated move, before then it was anywhere between 9% - 25%. Too little too late by that time - don't appreciate wasting my time and being forced to pull teeth. I'm led to believe it may be dependent on where you live and what other services you may have with them as to the % they are willing to go.

  • AGL are scum. They've been harassing us since we submitted the switch. More than a dozen calls, emails, letters.

Some verge on the criminal. I fear for elderly customers. (profanity) AGL!
