NSW Compulsory Third Party Insurance

My car registration is due tomorrow, so last night I went looking for CTP quotes online.

I got a few quotes from greenslips.com.au, and I decided to go with NRMA. Unfortunately the NRMA website was 'down for maintenance' so I had to wait until this morning.

Today I logged in to get the insurance and the price has gone up nearly $300!

I went back to the greenslips.com.au site and all the quotes have gone up!

So much for the government rebate starting in 1st December, the prices are going up now.

Total scam.

  • You did not have to wait for NRMA Web to be on line again. Internet is good, but things like 'people' and 'phones' still exist. Did you ring NRMA and TALK to them? (7am-10pm, 7 days).

    • sort of…

I knew I could use the internet to do the whole thing so I tried to do it after 10pm last night (after I got home). Sure, it's a last minute thing, but the issue is an almost $300 price rise in 24 hours.

Does the car have comprehensive insurance? If so, call NRMA and tell them.

We were with NRMA for 12 years for CTP because they were always cheapest. Then, they started mailing much higher renewal quotes every year. I would call them, explain the car was comprehensively insured, they expressed surprise at this change, I would get them to mail me a lower quote and then accept it. Despite emphatic unmistakeable clarity that the car never lacked comprehensive insurance for even a nano-second, this pattern continued until GIO became cheaper.

We have several policies with NRMA, and it seems that almost every renewal we need to change/link policies to maintain the multi policy discount or check we don't have an old address/phone/email.

how much was it on saturday?

Do you have the quote saved or a quote number (email etc.)?

If so you can get the price quoted. Or try ringing them to see if they honor the old quote.

  • That increase seems excessive, ballpark greenslip for me is usually around $600.

Greenslips NSW is where you should be looking to compare though.

Can't you pay todays rate and then claim the rebate after the reformed pricing begins.

  • Just checked my rego as it was only paid about a month ago to see if there was any change, and it was only by about $5. Nowhere near the $300 you are saying. Maybe you clicked on something you shouldn’t have this time around, like incorrect demerits or how long you have been driving. Just go back over it and check that all the details are correct.

On side note, dont use that shit site. Use the NSW government site to find out about green slips http://www.greenslips.nsw.gov.au/ It's much better getting the info from a government site than a site that is possibly selling on commissions.

Edit: just went to the .com.au site and put in my details and the price is exactly the same as the government site, and still nowhere near a $300 increase.
