I Was Considering Getting a UMPC- The GPD Pocket. Now, Campaign of a Better (?) One- The KSPRO 8.2' UMPC Is IndiGoGo Listed

I was keenly interested in getting a UMPC for myself.

Almost had decided to pull the trigger for the GPD- Pocket from the likes of BangGood, TomTop etc., in a couple of months; when prices stabilise.

Now, along come news of a Microsoft/Snapdragon UMPC in the works.
And of another UMPC, on an IndiGoGo campaign, which is closed ATM. But it looks like the startup- Khiron-Sigma will relaunch it.
Here is more

Of the above, the latter- the KSPRO- sounds every bit what I wanted. Full Win 10, Super AMOLED, MgAl CNC body, Dual 4G, Outstanding battery life etc.

Still, a stable version seems in the not-so-near-future, whereas the GPD Pocket is here; now.

What do you guys think?
Get the GPD?
or
Wait for the UMPC market to furher heat up with more offerings?

Thanks

Just curious - What do you intend upon using it for? What uses can it serve better than existing tablets?

    • pockettable full win10 with proper I/O ?

hard for a tablet to replace that.

though i can see someone might come up with a phone that does all that - Maybe the legacy of Nokia ?

I have had good luck using Remote Desktop from iOS for the occasions I need full Windows 10.

Generally though, I have found smaller devices to be little use as their keyboards are often more hassle than they are worth.

But back to the question - what do you expect to use it for?

        • use it as an AIO device to 'reasonably' replace phone/tablet/laptop/PSP/NDS/desktop/camera/wallet

it's like once you get home, it auto connects to your full size bluetooth keyboard mouse and screen cast to your 70" UHD tv.

keyboard is debatable, back in the days blackberry's keyboard seems popular amongst "business" man.

in future, once it gets powerful enough + battery tech advances = it will be the only device required.
no need to phone, tablet, laptop, PSP, NDS, flac lossless player, camera, TV media player, etc etc.

PS: above is not tailored to the particular device posted by OP.

      • I always carry a USB-OTG cable with me just so I can plug in USB sticks to my phone. You can also grab micro-usb to HDMI adaptors if your phone/tablet supports it.

  • Looks like we're going back to pocket pc days. I remember a Sony looking much like these back around 1999.

Edit, looks like there's already models you can buy. https://www.amazon.com/GPD-Pocket-Aluminum-NoteBook-X7-Z8750…

    • yep GPD is a reliable crowdfund dev.

they released GPD win with knobs in the past, then this updated version - GPD pocket as successor

linus LTT reviewed both in youtube.

they just need to add 4G voice/data sim slot + camera to turn it into a phone with good battery life as priority of course.

      • I wonder how popular it will be, Sony had the Vaio P years ago( and the UX years before that) but no one wanted one then either.

      • they just need to add 4G voice/data sim slot + camera to turn it into a phone with good battery life as priority of course.

That won't happen for a long time as they're currently developing the GPD XD 2 😉
