In-between AMEX FF card offers. Qantas American Express Discovery filler?

So I recently closed my ANZ FF Black account coming up to the 1 year mark (no annual fee) and they had dropped the AMEX a couple of months back anyway. From the look of it only ANZ is still doing a "bonus points with no annual fee" offer so the idea to rotate yearly between offers doesn't work atm. I have considered ones with reduced annual fees but still mulling over that; thinking of holding out for a fee free offer again.
I'm thinking if I should sign up for the free Qantas AMEX Discovery card so that I have some form of AMEX for the various offers they have like Dimmi and Shop Small. Is there any reason not to do this I haven't thought of?

TLDR; are any downsides to getting the basic free Qantas AMEX Discovery card to take advantage of various AMEX offers?

FWIW at the moment my primary CC for local purchases is the Citibank Platinum (I unfortunately did not qualify for the Signature that can do QFF transfer at the time)

I would go through westpac black. 100k for $195 and comes with an Amex.

    • Quick question, is the $75k "recommended" income absolutely required? would someone with a $5-6k less be able to apply?

I didnt get asked for my payslips when I signed up. Not sure if they even asked Payroll. Wish you luck!!

Also if you are married, its a combined income per house hold so you + wife = CC!

The only reason I can think of not to do this would be if you wish, at some stage, to bag one of the big bonus points offers from Amex, associated with cards that have a fee. As an existing Amex customer, you will not be able to take advantage of those offers (until you are no longer an Amex card holder for 18 months, I think). If you do not have such intention, then this is fine.

In the past, they did not necessarily enforce this rule, but heard that they are getting stricter.
