Strong Double-Sided Tape Recommended to Attach Security Camera

Scenario:

Trying to mount Xiaomi IP camera on the double brick wall. But found the wall is too strong (took 20 mins to drill one hole, probably it is the problem of my hammer drill)

So we tried to buy tapes instead. Tried this one from Bunnings

Didn't work well. fell off in 2 hours.

The weight of the camera is 0.25kg

Just wondering if anyone had experiencing placing camera on the wall using double-sided tapes. Which tapes did you use?

just buy some masonry drill bits?

    • We have some at home. But probably they are too old/not sharp any more

He meant, "just buy some NEW masonry drill bits?".

  • Did you use a hammer drill?

  • don't bother with tape.

    you could try epoxy.

This is the one you want.

Used it a number of times and it stays stuck, even secured a vortex generator to the roof of a high performance car no problems.

  • Are there any metallic surfaces? That camera actually has a magnetic base.

    • Well, the wall is double brick

  • I bought "Bear" branded double sided tape to mount my LED Solar Lights from this deal: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/330724
Has stayed up for almost 24 hours so far.

I stuck it onto wood though. Are you trying to stick onto brick?

  • I use something like this https://www.spotlightstores.com/craft-hobbies/basic-craft-su…

The medium ones to hold my hikvision camera and has no problem.
    I think i put 2 for a camera.
0.25kg should be easily covered with those ones

  • install it correctly with a proper drill would be my first suggestion, other wise silicon, find the right no more gaps, ie, hard plaster to metal etc.

  • Would glue or some strong velcro work? For some reason I'm imagining a scenario where the thief makes off with the camera due to weakly attached tape :p. But obviously I'm guessing it will be high enough it won't happen or similar.

One trick I've found for making sure that double-sided tape stays stuck is to ensure that it is not supporting any weight for at least 24 hours.

Tie up or brace whatever is being supported by the tape and then don't touch it again for at least a day.

  • Trying to mount Xiaomi IP camera on the double brick wall.

seems like a lot of work for a $20 camera.

either one of these will do the job.

  • Use silicone and duct tape it to wall until silicone dries

  • I can't see double sided tape working too well on brick, normally needs a nice smooth surface.

    1. Try drilling the mortar between the bricks, it is usually softer.
    2. New drill bit, make sure your drill is set on hammer mode, maybe a new drill.
    • Try drilling the mortar between the bricks, it is usually softer.

And because it's softer, it doesn't hold as well.

      • but it'll hold 250g easily enough. Its not going to hold a carport on though.
