Should I Buy This Acer Laptop for $799.20 Delivered from The Good Guys?

Should I buy this laptop from The Good Guys eBay store?

What is AMD A12-9720P equivalent to Intel processor?

I just want to use the laptop for everything basic like surfing, browsing, music and videos. I don't mind spending a bit more but I want a 'fast' laptop (if not very fast). I don't need ultra thin or portable laptop hence weight and size are not issues.

Thank you.

  • My only concern would be the AMD cpu. I haven't had much experience with AMD processors in the past so take my response with a grain of salt. That being said, the AMD A12-9720p seems to do pretty well in benchmark tests:

Hopefully more someone more knowledgeable can point you in the right direction.

    About the CPU:

    https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=AMD+A12-9720P&id=30…

Compared to Intel CPUs, the CPU is most comparable to Skylake Core i3 CPUs. Our first test sample however performt a bit worse than an average A12-9700P and on par with a i3-5010U (multi-core) and i3-4010U (single-core). Due to the TDP limitation, the performance of the A12-9720P will drop significantly under sustained workloads.

This means there is sufficient performance for typical office and web applications as well as light multitasking.

This laptop is therefore… a little underpowered for it's price. You should probably look at Lenovo E570 or E570P.

The Acer also does have a low resolution 1366 x 768 display (what year is it?!). Something I'd rather not see in a device that normally costs a thousand dollars….

    • Thank you. When will I be able to buy Lenovo E570 or E570P on sale?

The E570 deal is very common. E570P deal not so much, but I don't think you will need E570P (the P is the performance version which has a true quad core CPU and GTX 1050 Ti graphics)

Go to https://www.ozbargain.com.au/search/node/Thinkpad%20E570 and then click "Create Alert" on the right hand side. You'll be notified by email whenever there is a deal mentioning the search term.

        • Thank you. Done.

        • Deal alert. not a very good deal though, as TA's deal was almost $200 cheaper.
