Which Xiaomi Phone to break iPhone addiction and Why?

I finally convinced my son not to rush out and upgrade his iPhone again as it makes me cry every time (stupid thing is always broken before he has finished his contract). So what Xiaomi should he get? We want best bang for buck. Power, processing and wireless charging, expandable memory and hi-res responsive screen. I hear a lot of buzz about the MiA1, is this the one?

According to this the current flavour of the month is the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4X

    • Best Flagship, that's the one I needed, thanks. I am loving the looks of the Mi6.

If you're looking at spending Mi6 kind of money, I'd look at the Mi Mix 2 if aesthetics are a consideration.

        • Truely splash proof was the big bonus for the mi6.

  • Mi Mix 2 is their top of range phone. Keep in mind that it is almost entirely screen, so might be easier to break.

It does however have a wow factor you won't get anywhere else. I've also yet to see one in the wild, so it will stand out more than other bezelless phones

    • This is sounding like a hook I can use, just in case he caves in at the sight of the iPhone 8.

It's hard coz most android apps are inferior to ios'. Kinda like downgrading similar apps. Bit like owning a merc amg, and then 'upgrading' to a Hyundai. Those xiaomi whilst cheap feel funny especially the way the touch screen responds and lack the quality feel. You'll probably need a high end Samsung or Sony

Being the humble bundle fanatics we are, being able to access the android mobile apps bundles is a winning feature. He is a lifestyle gamer, and wants a mobile entertainment system, not a social media mainline, so IOS integrated apps are neither here nor there when we are considering a new phone. but i give you an upvote because i respect peoples honest reviews of a product, we are all different with different priorities.

      • My Xiaomi mi Max 2 I would say it's superior in quality to my iPhone 6, simply because they feel similar, just the xiaomi is less sharp.
Also, the screen response is equal, but the xiaomi glass feels much… Firmer than the iPhone, which kinda feels like it depresses under my finger. My iPhone screen feels more like a laptop LCD screen, while the xiaomi simply feels like smooth glass.

I honestly don't believe that person has objectively used other phones

Yeah, kinda like how some people can't tell the difference between good steak and bad ones huh?

My personal opinion is - Xiaomi phones cannot break iPhone addiction. Xiaomi phones are ok but have poor camera which is big plus in iPhone. Also MIUI is personal preference which may not suit your taste.
I would suggest Moto G as budget and Pixel in higher range as better option.
My experience with Xiaomi was bad as it had software glitches, really poor camera and screen cracked.

    • The Mi5 and Mi6 claim to have decent cameras, but i would love to see some untouched posts of photos taken with both.

    • Software on the xiaomi is what converted me. Miui is amazing, and also similar enough to iOS to make it comfortable.

The camera on my mi Max is indeed quite terrible. In optimal lighting, I would say it is equal or better than the iPhone, however it's horrible in any non optimal lighting. It's also slower and far easier to blur.

As far as camera go, for Android it's very hard to pass Samsung or Google. I've never used a pixel phone, but the galaxy cameras are in my opinion far superior to the iPhone (6)

  • I am not a fan of iPhones but I think you need to show him an android equivalent to the iPhone, a top range Samsung, pixel lg v30 or g6 etc
You can't compare a new iPhone to an xiaomi that's lower end.

    • I seriously doubt he uses an iphones full potential, he has just gotten into the swing of taking the upgrade option everytime a new one comes out, mainly because the old one is fubar. So by the time he owns the damn phone its a piece of crap, if he was paying for them outright, instead of on top of his plans, he would have hesitated long ago. I am an opinionated so-and-so, but i do let my kids make thier own choices, hence being so happy I have finally convinced him to quit the habit. (I didnt say i dont lobby them to do what I want anyway).
