Ordered a Laptop from TheGoodGuys C&C but Don't Want It. Does a Restocking Fee Apply?

Hey all,

So my deal is I impulsively bought a laptop that has quite impressive specs doesn't really suit my needs with a $100 off coupon. I haven't picked it up yet, so my question is this: What is the best way to go about getting a full refund?

I heard TGG have a 20% restocking fee - but how about if it hasn't even been taken out of the store yet?
Or should I just not pick it up? Will they then have to give me a complete refund?

Thanks all and apologies if this seems like a stupid question :)

  • You won't get the coupon back, I suspect.

Lol it would be useless if I did because it would have expired :)

  • I think you have more sway if it wasn't a custom build and store stock.

    • Let's hope mine was store stock then! Wasn't custom built.

  • Some stores have to order it in. Your mileage may vary

why dont people that post these sort of questions, i dont know, ASK THE STORE THEY PURCHASED IT FROM what the best course of action is!?

I agree, but sometimes there is a way to word that question that is likely to get a better response. My view is the earlier you contact the store and ask the more likely they are to be able to cancel the order for you.

    • Yeah that would most likely be the best way of finding out but that involves talking to a person lol
It is dreadful I know, but I would rather not have to talk to someone; it puts me on the spot too much haha

Gee - I would have thought the best way to get a definitive answer would be to ask the store?????

Have you asked the store ???

Did you ask the store? What did they say?

  • I've successfully returned a few items from different TGG stores that I bought C&C
None charged a restocking fee but they were low value items (sub $200)

  • They have no obligation to give you a full refund for change of mind…

Call and find out but there probably will be a restocking fee

  • I suppose you should ask the store?

Act in haste - repent in leisure

  • returned so many times in goodguys, and they never charged me the re stocking fee. in ur case i guess u better buying something small and then when u re about to pay the first item, mention to them that u also changed ur mind and return the laptop. its always work with me. All the best mate

  • Yeah I'll just go over in person I think - if they can't return it I'll come back and buy something small and then ask them if they can return :)
Thanks all (well, not all but most)

Yeah I'll just go over in person I think

You think?? You realise your only option is to either talk to them, or suck it up. No one here has the authority, nor the powers to read the minds of the manager for something they are not legally obligated to do.

  • Just an update - got a refund quick and easy with no dramas and no fees :)

    • I bought a new fridge with good guys. Have the item delivered but doesn't fit the door as measured by the delivery man. Item returned back. I got refund of my original payment minus shipping $50. Should I accept the fridge there would be 20% restocking fee. Lucky.
