Why Do Utility Companies Not Give You The Best Deals?

Why do utility companies give you the worst deal until you pester to leave them?

Does it not make sense to keep customer loyalty or is profiting from the unknowing such a lucrative business?

  • If they all do it you have no option but to pester them.

Because most people are lazy and don't complain and/or leave.

I think your effort is better spent sharing good rates so everyone can compare.

The best deal I found In Qld was Alinta Home Saver with following rates for 24 months.
    Peak 21.45c
    T31 14.025c
    Feed in 11c

If someone has found better please reply.

    • usage rates alone without the connection rates and any discounts are rather useless tbh.

      • At about $700/qtr for my bills, I didn’t see much variability in per day rates (and certainly insignificant to me in comparison to usage in terms of $). The above usage rates are after discount.

        • 21.692c after discount anytime usage, so sounds like you have a great deal.

Unfortunately the best deals aren't published nor available via the call center as I only received this rate after starting to leave and just before the cutover date, a manager called up and offered the large discount.

  • Because they are greedy baxxxxx corporations.

  • Because most are lazy to ask

  • VIC 18C Flat rate , 98C Daily . No contract . EXL GT

Can any one guide how Peak , off peak rates are beneficial ?

  • Because the people they serve are stupid and greedy. Dodgy tactics flourish in markets where dodgy tactics produce results.

  • I visited the government price comparison website, entered my details and it came back with a list of around 100 options. Could anyone be bothered working out which was the best deal of all of them?

Everyone is different, has diff usage patterns etc. How could the company possibly offer you the 'best' deal every time.

Why do utility companies give you the worst deal

To make the most money. What else do you think the company is there for?
