Cannot recommend this game enough, if anyone hasn't played this, you absolutely should get it at this price

    • +1

Should you play any of the ones before hand?

      • Nope. Might be a reference here or there from past events but that's it. It's a standalone game. In fact I didn't feel any nostalgia from playing this game having finished the second.

I played Witcher 2 without playing 1 and even then I understood the plot and everything.

Guessing they make these games knowing people wouldn't have played the other.

It does start Witcher 3 asking you how you resolved the events in 2, but rarely get mentioned again as you play the game.

      • I've never played the previous ones but I don't think I missed anything in the story

      • You dont need to, but Witcher 2 has an incredible story and helps you appreciate the story and certain characters in 3 a lot more.

      • It adds to the game experience if you have, but doesn't detract if you haven't. They make great efforts to explain things well and introduce things nice and gradually.

I would definitely recommend the books though, I read them after playing 3 but man it added so much to the experience.

    How big is the download?

    • +2

Under 'Details' the file size says its 42.2GB.

      • Thanks. Thought it would be larger with the expansions. Have to buy at this price.

        • +1

the size mentioned does not include the updates but it does include dlcs. Without dlcs, just the standard game is 31gb. With updates and dlcs, it would be around 50gb.

        • @yummycoot: Haha that's half my monthly internet quota. Will have to download during off peak.

        • +1

@yummycoot: I got this GOTY copy last week for ten bucks more, physical. The game comes with the second latest patch on the disk (would be the same on PSN). The PS4 Pro 4K patch that launched last week was only 130MB.

Total installed with DLC plus last week's patch is 43GB, not 50GB.

  • Thanks for sharing this! I've been looking at this game for the past 2-3 days and now it's on sale! Yes!

  • It's 20 USD on Steam right now too… I've got the Witcher 2 in my library of shame, is it worth just skipping to this one?

    • You can play Witcher 3 before 2, but it does start the game telling you how you resolved the events of Witcher 2. But really I played Witcher 3 and was only reminded of the events that happened in 2 rarely.

Witcher 2 is a bit of a long game. Not bad though. But Witchers 3 story has little to do with the events in 2.

      • Witcher 3 seems more a direct conclusion to the books, where the first two games seemed to be more of their own thing.

  • PUBG is all I play and will for the foreseeable future, but will buy this and store it in my steam library of shame.

  • This will tide me over nicely until Battlefront II, cheers OP.

Not gonna wait a few months when the game hits a meteoric low in price like with most EA titles?

      • +1

Normally, I would wait; the Open Beta convinced me otherwise.

Haven't had quite so much fun for an open beta in a long time, definitely wouldn't want to miss out on the early MP and Starfighter Assault progression.

That being said, I'm not forking out money for any special editions nor pre-ordering - just going to walk into a retail store like a gentleman and buy this game on release.

It's good, really good. I remember during my Nintendo days I would lament the fact that I couldn't afford a computer or another console to play the great multi-plats, including the original BFs. Well here I am years later and finally able to admit we have a Star Wars game that is better than Rogue Squadron on the GameCube, and one which I can readily access on the PS4.

I'm more than happy to support it at launch, and suggest improvements so by the time you buy hopefully the devs have patched any lasting issues.

        • +2

I would atleast wait a few days just in case there are gamebreaking issues. Buy a game day 1 to having such issues is the worst.

  • +1

I’ve got a hard copy of the game, wondering if this is cheaper than buying the two expansions separately? Anyone know? Also, would my saved game apply or do I get to play it all over again :)

    • +3

The expansion pass is also on special for $17.95: https://store.playstation.com/#!/en-au/games/addons/the-witc…

    • To answer my own question, the expansions are also on sale.
Blood and Wine is $13.95 and Hearts of Stone is $7.55

    • Had the same question. Cheers for the answers to you and tameras. Gonna grab the Expansion Pass

    • +1

Even though you found the DLC on sale, an FYI that save data from the original Witcher 3 game isn't compatible with the GOTY version. They're treated as separate products.

    • +1

GOTY and standard edition + DLC are two seperate SKUs with complete different saves and trophy sets.

  • omg, i literally just bought this from JB HiFi yesterday for $49…

does anyone know if they accept returns for store credit? Unopened with receipt.

    • +1

If it's unopened. You can definitely get your cash back. I've done this before due to change of mind.

      • cool thanks, i'll give it ago and probably offset vs Shadow of War.

    • Well at least you don't have a 50GB download like me.

  • Great game but I found the load times unbearable on a ps4. Dropped difficulty so I wouldnt die as much but didn't help.

    • Crucial MX300 525GB on sale for $199

If you keep it and the PS4 for 4 years, that is $50 a year or less than a $1 a week to reduce loading times. PS4 Pro with a SSD reduces loading times further, but that costs a little more than $199.

      • Have you done it to your own PS4? Significant difference ? :)

        • Got a 1TB SSD ready to go in, but holding off as trying to convince wife we need PS4 Pro.

        • @FabMan: should be epic ahahaha

  • This or the PC / Steam one?

    • I guess it depends on your play style and how powerful your PC is, but I will mention that you will probably have access to mods if you go the PC route.
Nice for adding improvements or fixing those little annoyances - especially when you consider the amount of hours you could be spending in this world

  • Any deals on just the expansions? already have the main game

    • +1

Yep, $17.95 for the expansion pass (includes both)

  • Ugh, I just bought the GOG version after losing faith that they'd ever drop the console prices down to reasonable levels. Well, the only thing that prevents me from falling into total despair is that I finished my first run using my friend's copy of the game, and for some reason my save files aren't compatible with the version I purchased later on!

  • +1

Should never have picked it up on sale before the GOTY - i got it for $25 and never played it, without any DLC

  • +1

Great price. So much quality content for the money. The game was just patched recently too and now supports PS4 Pro and 4K TV resolutions.

  • My PS4 is out of space, does it support 4TB/5TB seagate or western digital portable drives (get of Amazon)?

    • Yes

Am I the only one that could t get into this game. I had it on my old normal PS4 but sold it as I could t get into it. Not sure if I should give it another go on my PRO tho

      • Yeah, I don’t like the combat. I put in about 20 hours then got bored with it.

Still bought it again from the Steam deal though.

        • Weird people negged your comments because you didn't like the game they liked.

  • I've never played any Witcher games before.. Last open world games I thoroughly enjoyed were AC: Black Flag and Horizon: Zero Dawn..

    How does this stack up?

    • Horizon zero dawn is much like Witcher3, as one of witcher3 producers is involved. However, horizon is much less complicated and developed as Witcher3.

  • 10/10

  • +5

Worst part of this game was the post witcher depression

    • Took me 4 months of regular play to finish the base game, and I didn't play anything for nearly 2 months after I finished it.

  • +1

New 4K patch for Pro looks great.

  • +4

One of the greatest games of all time in my opinion. And DLC done properly too - The two expansions are longer in length than most AAA release games.

  • Great game. Best dlc I have played up to date.

  • Look forward to playing it tonight once kids are asleep! Excited, been waiting for a sale

  • Could have sworn it was on sale until 1159pm 26 OCt, but it doesn't seem to be anymore :(

  • Expired - for now

  • How is Witcher 3 for someone who has already played Bloodborne?

  • Am i missing something? It says "$31.18" to me?

This is one of those games I want a physical copy of though
