Crappy Vietnamese food. Go to somewhere real and authentic served by actual Vietnamese people.

    • nah overpriced chain knockoff vietnamese is where it's AT!

Agree. The "New Age" Viet food stalls (Roll'd, Miss Chu / Madam Nhu etc) actually taste disgusting. Their Pho taste like watered down soy sauce, their Bun tastes like crap (just keep drowning it with fish sauce) and their rolls are like.. Sushi stands with 8 hours of salmonella built up around every roll.

Agree. As well as PHO24 in near Southern Cross station. The authentic stuff, say in Richmond and Footscray (Melbourne) is miles better than this crap! The portion sizes are a lot bigger as well for the same price.

        • There's Pho24 in australia? Learned something new today.
I went to Pho24 in vietnam and absolutely loved their beef noodle soup. So cheap it probably even beats the prices of packet noodles in Aus.

(fun fact: i spoke with Ly Qui Trung, the CEO of Pho 24. He actually went to the same university I did in Western Sydney).

        • @scrimshaw: don’t think it’s the same one you’re thinking of, this one is VERY westernised

        • Yeah actually it is different, they just simply immitate the famous brand from Pho24

        • @goldenstarkboy: I was about to suggest the same thing. Quite common for people to "borrow" famous brands that arent in the country yet just to leverage the name (lots of Chinese shops do the same as you can imagine vs the real ones operating in HK/China). Totally unlicensed but they dont give a crap.

        • @bchliu: There's a fake Cupcake Central in china I heard, they copied everything.

      • disagree. i like madame nhu and a few of my vietnamese friends also like it - it's just different but still good. havent tried roll'd though

Sorry.. I'm probably just a traditional pho Snob. lol.. The new fandangle fusion Viet stuff is just too meh for me. Still prefer going back to Cabramatta during the 80's and having some damn good pho with broth that's been boiled for days to bring out every ounce of flavour. Those old shops have closed and not the same anymore and its so difficult to find a replacement for it.

Go and try the Pho at Roll'd. Even my pre-teen son dislikes the flavour and says "this taste like crap". lol

        • @bchliu: nah dont need to try it thanks sounds terrible! is the pho still legit in cabramatta or changed too much there too? whats your top pho closer to the city?

        • @chocfrogs456: Finding a good Pho joint is pretty hard these days but there's always Pho Pasteur as "Comfort Pho". They arent the best, but the quality is still pretty consistent and good. There's one in Haymarket but havent tried that (I go to the Parra one).
The Vietnamese tend to vote for Pho An in Bankstown as being a favourite http://www.anrestaurant.com.au/

Funny enough.. I dont do Pho at Cabra anymore. I go there for two things:

Bau Truong for BBQ Grilled Pork & rolls
          http://www.bautruong.com.au/

Tan Viet for Crispy Skin Chicken and Tomato red rice
          https://www.zomato.com/sydney/tan-viet-noodle-house-cabramat…

lol.. be sure to join the queue there if you wanna make the visit out to Cab. It's quite worth it just to have those two I described. Bau Truong use to be even better back in the 90's when it was in the alley at the back. They only spoke Viet to me (lucky I have Viet friends!!) and was the best Grilled Pork Cuon (Rolls) I've ever tasted to date.
Tan Viet is loved by everyone. Once you have that crispy chicken, all the other SE Asian Crispy chickens dont taste the same anymore. lol

    • I like Baget, same price.

  • What's the normal price? I would have expected something like this to cost $8-$10, so not really sure what I'm missing.

Edit: or is it a new dish that's only available for a limited time, ie $10 is the normal price?

    • Normal price is $12 - ate this for lunch the past 2 days while I've been travelling.

what's the bargain? this is available from 2 city stores nationwide, and a Vietnamese salad is about 10 bucks at my local every day of the week…

    Westfield rent is very expensive

  • As far as I can see, Rolld is not on Mealpal. I got an email from Rolld saying deals on the way and this is the first.
I would say it is in direct response to Mealpal. Nothing special really.

    Another OzBargain OzAdvert. Fun.

Next up, your local pub's standard $12.50 meal.

    I like their Pho.

  • Lmfao.

    Worst Vietnamese food ever.

Not to mention the rice paper rolls are left out for hours unboxed and go hard

  • +1

    overpriced food.

  • +2

I'm Vietnamese and have Vietnamese food everyday. I've tried their food once with my gf and we both think that it probably the first as well as last time. If you want authentic Vietnamese food, go to Cabramatta

  • +2

To get good Vietnamese food, you need to take risk and go into suburbs like footscary, stabalbans, Richmond
