    Crackling deal.

  • just like to note that, the listing in jbhifi appears to still be the older model MDR-1000X, as far as some of us have seen the MDR-1000XM2 is still rather difficult to find in brick and mortar stores in australia.

They've listed both the MDR-1000X and the WH-1000XM2 at the same price without anything to clearly differentiate it. Going into each product shows the model number. Need to be careful though.

      • awesome, yeah i just double checked. looks like you are right. So hopefully the stock will start appearing in local stores soon.

        • Also if you read the description of the JB page, it mentions all the 'new' features of the m2. So considering that and the model number it looks like the updated model. Though it is confusing that a google search of the old model links to it.

  • I have these - they are great. Never had the MDR versions so nothing to compare it to, but I'm very happy with the WH's

    • Can you pair two phones with this one? Its something the older ones lacked…

      • Never tried - don't think so though. It has NFC on the non controller ear which you can just hold your phone to and it syncs in about 3-5 seconds. So if both phones had NFC, I would imagine swapping the input would be pretty quick / easy.

        • Thats a shame. The QC35 and PCX550 can both do this. Useful if you have two phones or phone/tablet etc

        • @BargainKen: Will try now with my work phone - give me a sec

        • @BargainKen: Managed to pair it to both my work phone and my personal. But had to disconnect it from one before being able to connect it to the other via the phone menu.

Swapping them between the devices was a case of tapping on the headphones on the BT list on one (one tap to disconnect), then doing the same on the other (one tap to connect) - both phones are Samsung

Edit - so yes, I had them paired with both devices and just tapped to swap the connection over viz the BT list on the phone.

        • @camel_racer: Is it true that due to the power saving feature of the headphones, if you don't have anything connected via bluetooth, the headphone turns off, so you can't use the headphones just for NC alone.

        • +1

@vanoob: Yeah they do turn off after a bit. I've left them on my desk before, forgetting to turn them off, but when I remembered about them they were powered off & battery was still at "high". Not sure what causes them to turn off - no input after 30mins or something probably.

        • @camel_racer: yea the other two do this seamlessly. Its not always convenient to switch between devices if you got your hands full etc

I actually purchased these last week from Sony. Have contacted them and said they will do a partial refund of the difference. Couldn't be happier with the cans themselves. Very impressive.

If you add $51 of something else you can use a $100 off $500 sony voucher :)

Hopefully they fixed the cracking issue that they have on the original headphones.

    • where can you get the voucher code?

      • +1

It was an old do survey and get voucher deal. It has to be used by 31 Dec this year.

I was looking to sell mine so I put it up on classifieds a while ago, there is at least 1 more on classified. I am now torn if I want to sell it or use it myself.

        • Thanks!

I'll wait for ebay 20% from Sony Ebay store…

  • I have these and am extremely impressed. I prefer them to my HD598's over a decent amp/dac by a lot, and prefer them to the QC35's sound quality wise as long as you're using android (otherwise they're very close). The touch controls are suprisingly useful. The QC35's are more comfortable (larger ear cups, lower clamping force, lower ear temperature when wearing), but these are also very comfortable, just be aware if you have a massive head like me and are used to the QC35's. The noise cancelling is absolutely phenomenal. I can't recommend these highly enough.

  • I so wish Sony would list 65" X9300E 4K HDR TV on eBay so I could take the 20% off using code.

The SONY 55" X9300E 4K HDR TV at $2,799.30 is tempting.

    • 55 inch for 4k any good?

I think you would need at least 65 inch to justify 4k as an upgrade.

      • It does depend on the distance you are sitting from the TV, but I tend to agree which is why I've exercised restraint.

Only looking to upgrade because my old Sony doesn't support MPEG-4.

      • If you're viewing the tv within 2 metres go for 55, if more go for 65.

Is there any improvement on comfort with the new model? I've tried the 1000X in stores and I found them really uncomfortable, ear cups not big enough and I think they suit small heads. I love the features but if they are uncomfortable, there's no point. QC35 was probably the most comfortable over-ear I've tried.

    • Judging by the comment from eneloopy above it's unlikely to have any significant improvement. I like the superior sound quality of the Sony pair but went with the Bose for the same reason.

If you have access to JB Commercial, it's available there for $381.36 - might be the cheapest price worldwide!

    • +2

Geez, just remembered my workplace has access to this. Logged in and it's come to $367 shipped to Sydney!!! Anyone want me to grab some? :-)

      • That's a cracking price!

      • dang. were you charged for delivery? was an extra $12 on top for me, but pick up is free

        • $355 picked up

        • @dmorg78: Where are you getting 355 picked up? I'm getting $381.86 from JB commercial :(

        • @Bevo: That price is from JB Commercial. It may be a different arrangement my employer has with them in regards to discount? No idea sorry.

        • @dmorg78:
Hey mate, that's a good deal!
You mind if I grab one from you?
I'm rooting for the gold coloured one.
I'll buy you coffee as a token of my gratitude haha.
Please let me know, cheers! :)

      • How can I get access to this? I'm heading overseas in a month so would also need the invoice in my name for TRS… is this possible?

      • I want one too.

      • Hey mate,
I'm super keen on buying a black pair, let me know if you're still up for this :D

  • Black vs Beige. None of the stores have them on demo yet.

    JB is also 449.

RE comfort vs the QC35, theres really not that much of a difference, at least not as big as some people make out. I guess you can say I have average sized ears and have no issues with the Sony when comparing the 2 at length (friends have both the Sony and Bose)
