How to Successfully Contest a Parking Fine? Help! Melb VIC

Hi all,

So I copped a parking fine as I was out of coins and funnily enough, was waiting in line in the AUS post outlet (about 10 m away from where I parked my car) to get more coins to put into the machine.

Naturally, within 10 mins and when I walked out, I've received a fine.

This is my first automotive related fine ever. I have never had a parking or a speeding fine before.

Do you think I will have a good chance of successfully contesting this fine? And if so, how should I approach it?

Also, I notice that the Vehicle model is incorrect, I've heard of people getting away if the Rego/Make was wrong. But what about vehicle model? (It states Sedan, mine is a hatchback)

Thanks in advance

    Pay it, you are screwed.

No hope. There's no grey area with this, you either have a valid ticket or you don't… And you don't

Unless Teresa Brennan says it's her car then you are out of luck. Waiting in line for coins is not a legal defence

  • 10mins is too long, ideally you should have bought a ticket directly after the infringement. You could then argue that it was issued as you were buying a parking ticket.

  • OP : Hello…..I think you guys should waive my fine. I have a Kia Rio hatch and you have me down as a sedan…LEL.

    OP : Hello? LOLZ.

    • on my rego papers mine says sedan but I have a hatchback, they tell me it's the same thing doesn't matter.

      • I got my rego bill today. My hatch is listed as Sedan. I was going to call vicroads tomorrow to fix it. So they don't care?

        • I am in VIC too. This is standard. All hatches I have owned were showing as sedan.

        • @spal: Ok Cool. Thank you. Saved me a call to Vicroads.

I'm sure they hear that excuse at least 10 times a day, slim to no chance.

  • Try it anyway, they can only say no.

  • Was there a pay by card or phone option ? If so there’s no way you’d get out of it. There’s very few places where you can’t pay by card or at least by the phone app.

I’d say you have no chance of getting out of it.

  • Dear Sir/madam,

My vehicle doesn't match the description.
It looks like your representative has made a transcription error.
    Please cancel the Infringement Notice.

At worst they will write back a rejection and give you another 30 days to pay.

At best, you get the thrill of the kill.

Just pay the fine and move on !

  • How much do you have to pay?
