  • switched too early! :( .. this is a very good deal.

  • I am thinking of porting my virgin prepaid to TPG and then to Live Connected. Is there a deadline?

    • +3

LOL. If coming from Virgin wait till Friday night :)

    • You'd lose any savings from porting Virgin -> TPG -> Live. $20 sim charge and $20 buffer credit up front when opening the TPG account.

      • no you wouldn't - you'd be $20 ahead. you have to port to Live regardless

      • The $20 buffer credit gets refunded.

      • Tpg also charges $11 port out fee

  • +1

Great deals there. Would switch over but I'm only spending about $5 a month at the moment anyway

  • just a quick question
Where can the coupon code be entered?

    • Hi - In the shopping cart confirmation page, there's a box on the right where you can enter it in.

  • In order to get these rates, do subscribers have to agree to receive advertisements in TEXT messages?

    • There are no advertisements

      • It was mentioned in their "store" site.

"All our plans are advertising subsidised which helps us bring these great deals to you"
        http://www.ozbargain.com.au/store/liveconnected

Not sure whether these promotions are exceptions

        • Hi - tks for letting us know. We have removed all advertising subsidy.

  • Does liveconnected have the same 2+ day wait for usage to show up on the usage meter as TPG has?

    • +4

Hi - Yes. All Optus resellers have the same wait time on usage records.

  • Oh wow hmm nice. I am definitely considering.. but I am wondering, is it possible to switch between the Discovery plans while on the contract? eg. switching between, discovery 7, 9, 11, 15 during the 12 month contract depending on our calling patterns?

And I guess this offer won't apply to any of the Apollo plans then?

    edit: so just to clarify

Register online, enter coupon code, and what else is needed in terms of details? What if I registered tomorrow but the LiveConnected service only got activated on Friday 5pm? That's past the deadline

2nd edit: I'm looking mostly at Discovery 11. Is it possible to trade the 500MB of data for 'yes' time? Basically the free time offered on the Apollo plans

    • Hi

As long as the orders in before the coupon expiry.
With the Discovery series, with the new update, its free to change within the Discovery series up or down.

      • +1

Ok, thanks for clearing that up.

So how about trading 500MB of data for the 1000 mins of free time offered from Apollo plans?! =)

  • +2

I believe you pay $11 to port out of TPG and $20 to start up with LiveConnected so all up you'll gain $9. Still not a bad deal.

I would move across if Discovery was 6 months, but can't for 12. Can you make it happen LiveConnected?

  • Bringing both my numbers over right now.

EDIT: "Coupon (LCTPG0311): -0.01%" and Total Cost remained unchanged. Is this right?

    • Hi there - yes that's right.

  • Any promotion for porting from thinkmobile at the moment?

  • +1

Actually I've calculated I don't save that much. Taking everything into consideration:

    • the $11 port out of TPG
    • $20 to start with Live Connected
    • expected monthly fee ($11/month on Discovery 11)

I only save about $1.50 per month =/ and I really don't like contracts. 12 months is quite long for a sim-only contract.

edit: Hmm hang on I forgot to factor in the $40 credit. I save almost $5/month. Is it worth it? Just as cyssero said, a 6 month contract I would probably jump on it. Not so sure about 12 months..

Does anybody know, if you just get a new number with Live Connected (so, not porting out from TPG), you will not be subject to the $11 port-out fee from TPG will you?

  • +1

don't you ever go there - if you can learn from others' horrible experience.
the worst thing about Live Connected is that there is no person you can talk to to explain your problem and to get some solution.

i have been on TPG $13 plan for ages and thought i could move over to Live Connected and save $6 per month. i almost did that. it failed because i didn't receive the new SIM in time and couldn't afford to loose the no# i wanted to port across.

all said and done, now i realized how important it is to have some LIVE person at the other end to help you with problems. i am happy to have stayed on with TPG.

    • But I guess you could say you were unlucky. I mean surely not everyone will encounter the problems like you have.

Personally, I agree that having a live person is always handy, but for the price, you pay for what you get. Furthermore, having been on TPG mobile for about 19 months now, I have only felt the need to call them for one issue which I could've certainly dealt with by email.

      • stay on with Live Connected for 6 months and come back with your feedback. i bet that you'll regert the decision.
yes, you get what you pay for and that's what i realized, losing voice support for $7 was a stupid decision - in retrospect. Live Connected will activate your account within 24 hours of dispatching the SIM - no questions asked (even whether you received your SIM or not). all they have is online support and you keep refreshing the screen to see if your reply has been responded to.

to me it looks like is a one person outfit who is trying to ensnare tightwads like me.

        • …and thats where the savings come in.

        • +1

Hi there - sorry to hear about your bad experience with us. The online only support model is daunting for some at first, but most people actually find it refreshing. You can log a case when it suits you,and track its progress. But fair point, some are not yet ready to abandon the need to call in.

With the TPG comparison - the cost difference is actually more than $7. Most people will make calls to 13, 1300 and 1800 numbers. This needs to be factored into the equation.

        • +1

          me 2.

Been on Live Connected since their first $20/month plan and besides a few issues they have been very supportive and fixes are almost instant.

Highly recommended!! I even got the rest of my family on it so I can pretty much talk to them for free any time.

  • I like LiveConnect. I had to contact them once and the matter was resolved really quickly. I just ported over my other number to them today! Agh, bad timing!

  • REP,Can i get $40 credit if i port my number from prepaid Optus?

    • likewise but on post paid optus

      • +1

+1 who will make the move from Optus to Liveconnected for the right deal.

  • Whats the price on data? Is there any data included in these plans?

  • +2

I'm giving this a positive, the only problem I have is "contracts". I can understand why they are there but if you guys had this offer contract-free or perhaps 3-6 months contract I'd be all over it. For now I don't mind paying a few bucks more on TPG. Kudos for all the work that has gone into this, I'm probably part of a minority who feels this way about contracts who knows.

  • How the ****?

$7 a month for $200 credit to anyone at usual market rates (35c flagfall+85c minute is standard it seems).

Your plan makes my mind boggle.

    • Hi - love the quote - can we use it on our Discovery page :)

      • Discovery series;
        "how the ****?"

        I like it :)

  • Want to port from 3. Any deals?

    • Hi there - stay posted - the next deal is Virgin.

      • how about thinkmobile ? Any deal?

  • Any chance of offering the same deal for someone porting from 3 prepaid? =)

edit: whoops, overlooked the previous comment!

  • Good deal.. really tempted.. Only question for liveconnected is the call rates, on the Discovery packages it says "Voice and video call rate (per minute) 85c ". So minimum local call cost is 80c + 35c flagfall = $1.15? Can you please confirm? Thanks. I thought TPG is 40c but in 30c blocks (??) or this is same deal for liveconnected?

  • I have been with them since the start (jan I think) no problems. I have converted a few of my friends and family now so we can take advantage of the lc to lc credit. Any questions were answered online within an hour or so and never had any real problems.

People say that this is a small company it has problems etc. There never were any problems. Only thing everyone is waiting for is a usage meter, which is fine if you know how to use excel, or have an android/ios device :D

    Android = Credit Usage
    Ios = quota lite

and using excel isnt that bad… but having said that hopefully something comes out soon…

  • What are the fees if you exceed $200 worth of calls/texts a month ?

Is it still 85cents a minute ? Also do you guys charge a buffer credit ?

So nobody with this company has received text message ads ?

    THanks :)

    • Hi there - yes its the standard rate. And No Ads. We removed that quite a while back.

  • +1

I am curious about something. With TPG you get warnings when approaching (and subsequently passing) your cap. Does LC provide a similar service? This has been a life saver to me many times when my head is elsewhere.

Also, despite my above criticism (contracts) I'm still thinking about this, $10.99/month [Discovery 11] with better value than my $18.99 TPG plan is still very tempting (1300/1800 inclusion is the clincher here). Would it be possible to pay the entire $131.88 (12 months) up front and just cruise, not getting a monthly bill for 13 months? Probably an odd question I know.

EDIT: Actually I guess that figure would theoretically be $91.88 after counting the $40 credit? Hell paying out a NEW contract for under $100 puts this back on the table for me :)

    • Im interested in knowing if you can pay up front too..Its under $100 so not much to lose if they go belly up at some point….

  • Great plans. Can anyone tell me though, my start period for TPG was on the 1st of this month. If I sign up with live connected, how long before my plan with TPG is disconnected and will I loose out on my credit that I have paid eg: I have paid for this month in full, and if my plan gets cancelled half way through will I lose my credit for half the month? I have 5 people who I would like to transfer to live connected. Also are calls charged in 1 minute increments? TPG charges for 30 second increments. Aso for vioce mail retrieval it states on the site, "Free deposit . Standard call charges for retrieval" Does this mean it will cost 85c and then 35c Flagfall a total of $1.20 for a voicemail retrieval? Sorry about so many questions but just want to make sure of all the facts before signing over.

    Sharon

    • I think I can answer all but your TPG credit question.

Yes, as far as I know, Live Connected charge calls in 1 minute increments and not 30 second.
Voicemail retrieval, if that is the wording, then yes, it does sound like a voicemail retrieval will cost $1.20.

      • Thanks so much for your reply. Much appreciated.

        Sharon

  • Do the Discovery plans include free 20 min calls from 8pm till midnight every night to any Optus mobile?

    • no

    • I wish they did.

I was trying to negotiate with Mr. Live Connected Rep here to get it but he's not replying so I don't think he is willing. I don't know if he realised I was being serious LOL

      • +1

Hi there - its not on the product roadmap for the time being.

  • +1

Cannot you guys save your money and make your site more user friendly? I have no intention to use your services because of this. Your pitch should be good value for everyone, not just the few people you give good deals to. I don't quite agree with the way you guys do business. I like your prices the way they are, the $40 credit should be put towards providing a better service rather than screwing some new customers around.

    • and maybe offer something revolutionary, new and different. Let your customers feel protected with an option to prevent going over the included cap value. That would make the use of this service a no-brainier without the need to redevelop the website.

      • Good plan, I was almost ready to transfer over. The fact it costs minimum of $1.20 to check your voicemails was the big decider for me not to transfer us all over. Can add up to quite a bit if you get a few a day. I figured I would be checking my vm more than making 1800 calls etc.

Still.. pondering… still don't know whether it's worth it.

    Biggest obstacles:
    - 12-month contract
    - Lack of 'yes' time (the 20 min free calls to Optus mobiles offered on Apollo and most TPG cap saver plans)

    • I know, me too! I think I'll just stick with TPG for now.

  • Great Bargain, thanks..Just ported over mine and the Mrs mobiles, hope all goes smoothly.
I assume as LiveConnected use the Optus network, Optus pre-paid phones will work ok on their network like they do on TPG?

    • Hi there - Yes.

  • LOL at all the people saying what if I go over the limit? Is there a msg warning when I am nearing my CAP? LOL, the whole thing is DESIGNED AND ENGINEERED for you to go OVER the $7/$11/$15 a month. Fools. That is why there is also a 2 day delay in usage updates. There is no technical reason Optus cannot update the servers in real-time or close to real-time, hell even a 2 hour delay is acceptable.

Any savings you make, will vanish on that one weird month of emergency calling or drunk conversation on your mobile….

    • Whilst I agree with you on the technical reason Optus don't do live updates, they get around this by give you the warning message very early. When it says "your approaching your limit" you are still miles away from it. At least this is how TPG do it anyway. I've been with them for years and only gone over my cap twice. One of those months a family member passed away.

Personally speaking, when I get on the drink I have self control with my mobile.

    • Your logic does indeed work and you are not wrong, but what the hell's wrong with asking if there's a message warning when you are nearing your cap?! This comment you've made is as if it's stupid of them to ask. No it is not. As Click_It has said (above), TPG do it, and TPG are an Optus reseller just like Live Connected. In fact, I'm sure people would agree with me in saying that they are rivals since they target a very similar market.

  • Hi All - just a reminder the offer expires at 9AM tomorrow AEDST.

    • Hi Rep - hoping you'll answer my question above before 9AM tomorrow :)

      • Hi there - is that about usage warning? Bad news is we don't have that capability. We know the cynics will think its a ploy to break the cap, but its the limitation of the 3rd party biller we use.

  • Hi, Live connected, I only just saw this offer which I now think is over.
Any chance I cuold be still be eligible if I apply today?

    regards,
    b

    • What kind of offer expires at 9AM :(
If you're going to list it on ozbargain, at least set the end date to YESTERDAY, so the deal is shown as expired. :(

Oh well, curious about the upcoming Virgin port!

      • Hi Lukian

We tried to extend the offer for as long as possible.

        • Hey REP, I cant log a ticket on the website? (i am not a customer but im very interested in the discovery 9 plan for my wife). anyway, Im very keen to know whether you’ll be having any Telstra $40.00 credit porting offers!, any ideas/comments? Thanks!

  • Just curious, how many people all up signed up for this offer?

In the end I opted not to.

  • Why would you make an offer end at 9am…?
I thought it ended today (at a reasonable time) so was going to do it now… Is there any way so switch over from TPG and still get the $40 ?

  • Hey REP, I cant log a ticket on the website? (i am not a customer but im very interested in the discovery 9 plan for my wife). anyway, Im very keen to know whether you'll be having any Telstra $40.00 credit porting offers!, any ideas/comments? Thanks!
