So many bands, have to love global phones

  • Good price for mix 2

  • I just worry about the cost of Warranty and time taken to post the phone over the sea.
If only Xiaomi had a walk in local warranty fix\replacement process, then these would sell like crazy.

Now that you mention it, there is truly a lot of demand for XiaoMi products, not just the phone range but other consumer electronics too. We deserve a regional hub here somewhere!

      • Agree right! I've been in xiaomi shops in singapore. Oz isnt much further!! I would love it to be able to walk into a xiaomi shop in sydney

        • They are not going to repair oversea phones as well. The local stocks will be much more expensive.

        • @bbtlovebbt:
Shame i would hope that it would be competitive

Cookie Boy (Tim Cook) (and the Ghost of Jobs) would sue their arse off if they land in countries without the patent exchange deal like that done between Huawei and Apple. Hence Huawei's MiUi like EMUI can sell internationally without Apple blinking (Apple actually need Huaweis telephony patents more than Huawei needs Apples UI patent.)

Xiaomi has to build up its patent set than they or Apple would come knocking for a deal in patent exchange. We can safely assume Xiaomi has a number of bezel less design and ceramic design patents they hope Apple would want down the track.

However Xiaomi can produce Google winged A1 like devices runs unskin android to avoid Apple patents. if the A1 is a success, then we may see a version of high end phones running basic android down the track.

There's a huge discrepancy with the aud to us conversion rate, 532 USD = 677.868AUD xe.com, whereas your site shows $714.46 when choosing AUD rate, you should also add the AUD price in the title

    • You can change currency.

    • Much better now, great deal Rep

as owner of Mi Mix 2 for about 5 days (got via friend in china), I can safely say the device is great, it shows one the future of smartphone full screen design trend, but the phone is not perfect by any means of such design, heaps of room to refine and improve, but much like ipad 2 improved ipad snd became the foundation to ipads to come,
Mix 2 is impressive on its own.

Edge to edge bezel less feel: compare to Mix 1, there is a about 1mm thicken in the feel of the edges simply because there is now a curve of the metal casing, it makes the device excellent to hold in hand without feeling of something cutting your skin. But visually, you felt that the edge is thicker than Mix 1. Hence the feeling of really holding the screen all the way to the edge (bezel less) is reduced, it felt closer to what Iphone X looked like.

Screen and device profile: impressive 18:9 screen, excellent colour and in general use, i find little difference sitting next to a 2K 5.7 in device. Yet the device profile is about the size of a 5.5 inch RedMi note 4, hence it is not thicker but only longer to achieve that 5.99. the icons are a little smaller when compare to a 5.7 in Mi 5S plus, due to resolution of better DPI. I would prefer bigger icons as long as res is above 370 DPI, but that's just me.

the chipset: the 835 it is OVER POWER by this time and age, we are now holding the a corei5 3XXX in our hands in terms of computing power and graphics card more than the power and feature set of a PS3!! It can now run full version Windows and more than enough to run the next three version of Android! It has 6 bloody GB or ram that puts mac mini of the same price range to shame! I find the OS preloads at least 2 GB of stuff at boot in the ram. But 6GB is more than enough for any one until Google allow android to gains more memory weight. There is no excuse for Google not to make android Q run on any device with specs of the MiX 2, design obsolescence and waste of production has to end.

Camera and video: The main camera is miles ahead compare to redmi note 4, but only on par with mi5 in terms of current software fine tuning, it should improve down the track. Front facing camera is more than enough for boys, but it is better off swing the phone around as instructed or else most guys would look fat aiming up at the chin. overall it is not as good as the front cams find in iphone 7 or mi5 mi 6 etc. yet for such a tiny lens cam, cant ask for more.

Battery: The first two days, the battery drains real fast, but after an OS update, it was holding rather well. Compare to the mi 5S plus, it is about 70 % of mi5plus' capacity. one full day of use from morning to night should not be a problem. I can manage two full day with mi5S plus. I expect the hyped miui 9 able to squeeze more battery life in the device.

OS: MIUI is the best droid skinned iOS like UI, any one used apple should feel home but those want app drawer need to load launchers and what not. The version on sale now may not have Google play spyware infused, but for anyone that wants to be fully spied on Left and Right, any google service installer should make you feel home with big brothers. There should be indian/global market version OS soon!

The Bands: Tested Vodafail Ops!tus (amaysim) and Hellstra (aldi) sims, all manage to show 4G in the west of Syd fine. I guess, no band 28 excuse on this one.

Over All: it is like Ipad 2 to ipad original, mix 2 is a full featured phone build on the refinement of the first version. From now on, the improvements would be smaller steps base on it. It may not look as impressive as MiX 1 but its much better in hand and to use (interact with one hand) [I have played with MIX 1 for about 10 minutes and it wasnt very good in hand]. It is more than enough as a daily use device, but it would not offer much more than that impressive full screen feel compare to existing phones that are not edge to edge 'bezel less'.

    • Would get one but no 6.44" is sad. Posted about this before. No issues with 6.44" size myself and wish they had carried it over from mix to mix 2.

      • I would love to see Mi MIX 3 goes back to 6.3 inch plus screen given it has the ability to fit a 2K screen with 5.7 inch width all the way in the iphone 6 plus size profile or the mi5S+ mi note 2 profile. the same curved note2 edge and mix 1/2 top side top edge with minimum lower chin would be perfect mi mix 3, married it with 4000 capacity battery, dual camera, it will be a land mark phone design. especially they can hide the finger print scanner under glass in the front.

they can off course do a line with edge to edge like apple would with a forehead, given android virtual buttons allow lower end edge to edge with out gesture compromise like apple must do. But, the bezel less on the top feel is better than bezel less on the chin any time as humans look at things top down naturally.

    • Can you root and install custom firmware?

      • Yes.
        Request unlocking from xiaomi.
Only one or two ROMs currently available.
Hopefully resurrection remix will be ready for it soon.
I have it running on the original mix.
XiaomiEU ROM is available too. None of the Chinese apps and all the google apps in there.

        • those EU ROMS are not offical, but forum contributor edited. They are perfect for those dont want Big brother East or West looking over their faces lol. Hack, android Open source was supposed to let the brothers live out side of our lives…

  • Man another xiaomi..

  • Ok, noob question. Im wanting to try VR on the cheap, my experience so far with IP7 has been lackluster due to limited VR IOS apps and low PPI.

Would anyone recommend any of these cheap $200-300 android phone with PPI of 400+ for this? Potentially one of the Xiaomi ones, as Xiamoi has a dedicated VR headset and app suite.

Although not listed above, the Xiaomi Note 4X appears good value for around $200

    thanks

you are better off with that dreaded LeEco Max 2, which it is the cheapest 2K 5.7 inch on the market before they really go belly up. The trouble is, since they are half dead, the software support for offical LeEco rom is zero already. There are third party rom given it runs snapdragon 820.
i got the Max 2 just for the VR and it is better than mi5s+ or any 5 inch devices i got wiht 1080p screens and i got that for 220 shipped after coupons, however you need to know the know how on ROM flashing to keep up with OS updates down the track

      • thanks Jackau, which vr headset do you use with it?

        • some aldi one for 29 that can adjust the eye distance indivudally, cause i find all the ones that can't adjust individual eye distance can't work on me. so very limited choice here,

        • I ended up getting the ZTE Axon 7 for just under $300, seemed the better option due to its potential re-sell value and google daydream VR compatibility (I got that headset for $30 here the other week and its awesome).

I was on the brink of ordering the LeEco Max 2 for $230 via eBay but considering that resell would be less likely and lack of support pushed me the other way.

Thanks for the heads up though
