Good job Meys! Just saved me $200 in Bali. Happy to shout you a drink when you're next in Melbourne :)

  • Thanks OP was just looking at booking travel in Chian Mai and this saved me around $220.00 - Good work love Ozbargins

    Don't forget Cash Rewards too.

    • Don't you worry about that. I was straight onto that as well :)

  • +1

Also, make sure you log into an account at Orbitz (or sign up if not already registered) and some of the hotel prices will be cheaper ("insider prices") just by being logged in and plus you will then earn OrBucks which you can use on your next purchase.

Also if you get to higher status and book the VIP hotels you sometimes get pretty nice gifts. I've had a couple bottles of wine and some food/room service vouchers provided as well. Almost platinum, so i'll test out whether I can get some upgrades to the next room (hopefully clubrooms!)

      • +1

Do hotels know that you are a higher status or do you have to do something?

        • They already know. It shows up for them as "expedia platinum or gold etc". There is never any harm in asking for upgrades anyway.

          @hypie:
Sweet, cheers. I'm booking most of a month and a half holiday with Orbitz right now and will end up at least gold from this holiday alone which is nice.

  • Any way of changing the currency to Au$…..? I can't seem to find a way of doing that

    • +1

You can’t. Orbitz is America first

  • Thanks OP, saved close to $300 for each of 3 families.

  • Thanks OP. Saved a good chunk for my upcoming trip.

  • If discount exceeds $300 you're better off using expedia mastercard 12% off.

    • Only if the total is over $2500, under that the $300 is more than 12% off.

      • Correct, my hotel, or chalet in this case is $4447. So for me, the mastercard deal is better.

So is the best way to use a Citibank card or equivalent to book since it's in USD?

    • I reckon so.

    • Citbank credit card has very good exchange rate as well

    • 28 Degrees Mastercard gave me a better conversion rate than www.xe.com

  • Signed In with Orbuckz earnt and Top Cashback of 2% earned (Cashrewards 1.3%) as this is a hotel with a coupon code. I'm very happy with this deal! Remember, two coupons per person. Not sure if a way around this as a different email address doesnt work. Cheers!

    • Select PayPal as the payment method.

  • Thanks OP - was about to book last night - glad I waited until this morning.

  • Thanks, saved myself $200 on my upcoming weekend away.

  • Anyone else getting: Sorry, that coupon has expired.?

    • You will also get that if your booking is for after the cutoff date of June 30, 2018

  • not working for me!! its keep on loading tried chrome, opera explorer

    • I just checked it still works with orbitz app rightnow

  • Cancellations with orbitz is easy and free upto a few days ahead of your booking. I already booked a hotel 2 weeks ago with the 15% off happyfall code. I just cancelled the previous one and booked again with the new code, saved me an extra $35.

    • for booking you pay at the time of the booking or at the hotel when you check out?

    • Cancellations with orbitz is easy and free upto a few days ahead of your booking

This is very inaccurate. Cancellation policies vary widely from the hotel and price paid.

  • Did anyone get charged more than what they paid for? My total was $1047.10 but around $1294 was taken out?

    • +4

      USD Vs AUD?

      • Thanks, silly me thinking I saved $500 compared to hotels.com. Oh well, 20% is better than 0%.

  • Charging an extra person rate for 1 year old child???!!!!

    • A one year old makes more of a mess than adult guests do, I guess.

      • If that’s the case, adults should be paying less. ;)

The fact is that they count a child as an extra person, which costs more than $40 a night, which cannot be justified.

      • Just confirmed with hotel, no need to show 1 year old when booking..so all good!

  • do you need to enter your CC details before the coupon code field appears? cant find it

    • +1

no need. It doesn't work on some hotels so maybe that is the reason why.

    • Coupon code is located just on top of cc details section. You need to click the coupon code word for the code field to appear.

    • sometimes it only appears if you make full payment in advance. Not available for partial payments.

Cheaper than sister site Cheaptickets.com. This is a first!

    • yeah I've never seen them give a bigger discount. CT have always given more discount!

  • I just did a quick comparison with my bookings with Expedia — so with Expedia and Mastercard you get 12% off, the total for a stay is $210.30. Checked Orbitz, entered coupon, converted USD to AUD and it was $208.06.

Very small difference… For me I'd just keep booking with Expedia and accumulate points there instead of having bits on different sites. Also this Orbitz booking site is owned by Expedia.

The other thing is with a lot of hotel booking sites, the Australian version always show the price including taxes before you reach the final page, whereas the US version only shows tax/fees at the very end.

    • You get Orbitz bucks as well though.

  • Awesome OP. Wife saved $ on a hotel in Malaysia and for Phuket next year!

Never use orbits but online reviews mostly are negative. From consumeraffairs.com: 117 out of 120 ratings are 1-star. Beware. I read some of the reviews and in many cases, the system "purposely" changes something (dates, even names) after you confirmed the booking. Now this is based on the reviews of some people who swear they double checked everything before clicking confirm and still on the booking confirmation, the details are somehow "changed". Make sure you check everything.

    • I’ve only tried orbitz twice and never had problem on both. Usually though whenever i booked with third party and not direct with hotel’s official website i usually call the hotel the next day i made the booking to confirm.

  • Some hotels are cheaper when logged in first!

  • Pretty good. However, for my hotel, it would be cheaper with a hotels.com double night credit offers. And so I have booked, but will cancel and rebook if/when the hotels.com offer pops up.

  • It's always the case with Orbitz that when you're logged in as member, they display higher rates. So I log out of my account and browse as guest, apply the coupon and then sign back in before proceeding to make a payment.
However, this morning that didn't work. The coupon was applied and the discount displayed, so I paid using a stored credit card. To my surprise when I checked my itinerary the price didn't reflect the discount. So I also checked my credit card activity online and it displayed the full price. Calling Orbitz was a waste of time because they had no clue what happened and all they could was to assist me with a new booking, which is fine but they were taking way too much time and ultimately told me that they would call back. Yeah right.
So I went back online and repeated the same thing myself. This time though I selected Paypal but when the page was redirected to the Paypal, the price was again the full price! How strange. So I signed out and booked as guest using the same email address associated with my orbits account to get the coupon code applied to my trip.
So be careful people. Make sure your discount is applied.

  • Thanks OP.

Booked. PayPal conversion hurt a bit, but I always rather know exactly what I'm being charge, ie. pay in AUD.

Still got a bargain considering we booked for the week before Christmas.

  • anyone knows where to put the promo code?

    • There is a box for you to put in the promo code when you press 'reserve' and it gives you a grand total, if it is not showing up I'd assume that hotel is not participating in this deal.

  • Thanks for this. Decided to extend my stay in Shenzhen for another night and the code still worked an hour ago.

Note: I booked on my mobile and they gave me 5% off before applying the 20% coupon

    • Did you book through the app or website on your mobile?
