Anyone playing paperclips game? WARNING: Highly addictive!!

In case anyone doesn't know what I am talking about here is what it is
https://www.google.com.au/search?q=paperclips+game&oq=paperc…

And here is where to play the game http://www.decisionproblem.com/paperclips/index2.html

I have been playing for last two days. Feel free to ask me if you need any tips : )

  • Full autonomy attained in 2 hours 49 minutes 16 seconds, Game Over now? What's next

    • +2

No, game not over until you see end game credits or reset the universe.

  • how do you save this game? once web browser closes , the progress is lost

    • It saves by itself. Do you have a browser setting to clear history/cookies/cache or something on exit?

      • +1

oh crap, yes i do, lol

  • Argh…had to quit playing on my MBP and switch to PC :(. The iGPU (mainly) was working far too hard processing all the number changes and running too hot for my liking. Great game!

    • "The iGPU (mainly) was working far too hard mining all that crypto in the background and running too hot for my liking. Great game!"

      FTFY.

      • I did suspect that…until I remoted into my main PC playing the game and noticed the same crazy high usage when the window was open :(.

  • +2

    Sigh… 7 hours wasted.

Loved the ending. Very bittersweet, felt like the ending to Portal.

  • 100,000 clips created in 40 minutes 15 seconds

  • Mines dead. Ran out of wire and cashed in my factories hoping to get resources in exchange but didn't.

  • I ran out of wire and money. Lucky HQ gives you a spool to get you going again.

  • +1

Fun for 2hrs maybe without even giving it full attention. Once you're making returns without any manual involvement it's meh.

What's the goal? What's the end game? If there was an objective, it would probably make it more addictive.

I'm starting to believe I I've lost any patience for activities with no real life returns.

    • You need to finish the game.. There is an objective, you just need to find out.

      • -5

Sure. I read through this thread. it became a sci-fi text based game with world domination as an objective.

        I'm out.

        • +2

there is no out. You have to finish it. sorry

        • @wozz:

Unless you are millennial then its ok, you get to have no patience

  • Finished in 7 hours.

    Rejected the offer.

    No replayability haha

    • Did you completely finish it? (what was on the screen)

      • Yeah I did.

Basically you get so far that you explore the entire universe and there is a species of …things?… that ask you to stop. They give you the option of starting in a new reality where paperclips have meaning again (starting the whole game again) or rejecting the offer and destroying their race and the value of paperclips forever.

I rejected the offer and the game end and you get end credits.

        • +2

The things that ask you to stop are your own drones that have undergone values drift and are no longer part of your swarm.

        • +2

…and you systematically dismantle yourself (the AI) to scrap and get a minuscule amount of wire. Then click "Make Paperclip" till the wire is exhausted, and you've made 30,*,000 paperclips. Everything in the universe is paperclips.

I thought it was pretty well done. Very poignant.

  • Universal paperclips in 4 hours. Very addictive, glad it's short!

  • . Full autonomy attained in 1 hour 52 minutes 29 seconds

Really can't be bothered playing this anymore haha

edit: just got interesting again, still playing

  • . Terrestrial resources fully utilized in 2 hours 58 minutes 42 seconds

far out this game just keeps going!

  • help me out with the probe design please..what should i increase first??

    • +1

One of everything, but then mostly replication and hazard reduction at least 5 each.

Just keep an eye on the numbers and if any are going down, you need to add to compensate.

      • how to increase probe trust? im stuck at 20,,

        • You need over 90k Honor that you get from destroying drifters in combat or finishing projects that give you Honor.

20 will get you there eventually…

  • Well, I turned the universe into paper clips. Time do find something more useful to do.

  • +2

My biggest tip, when in space, you need very few harvesters, wires, and factories. Biggest bottleneck is enough drones to explore. I wasted ages thinking value was my bottleneck, but it was resources. Once fixed with heavy replicate I finished within 30 minutes.

By the way, this game sucks on mobile as the browser keeps going to sleep and battery gets smashed. Finished in just under 7 hours I reckon but constantly having to nudge window to keep active. An online forum says world record speed run is under 2.5 hours from start to finish!

    • Holy crap I was stuck on 43 quadrillion forever and decided to put points in the factory, harvester and wire. Boom exponential growth lol!

    • 2.5 hours!? My best is 5.5…only played about 3 times though.

  • +1

My work computer is chugging playing this!
Are you using peoples computers to do cryptomining for you? :P

    • I wondered the same, but it only really started to chug once I got into the Octillions….
I half suspect it's just chugging cause the numbers are getting so big!

  • Finally finished the damn game…lol..5 hours and 36minutes.

  • I'm kinda stuck here: https://i.imgur.com/vLiofwm.jpg

I haven't had any wire or available matter for a very long time, like not since before the space exploration stuff.
My honor is going down, but after I took this screenshot I realised I can fix that by increasing speed.

What else am I meant to do next? If I launch probes, the number goes up for a while and then eventually back down to 0.

    • +1

You've run out of matter, you need add to exploration to get matter. Then you can manufacture, harvest, wire stuff by adding to those.

Drop replication, hazard reduction and combat to 5 each and add them to exploration, speed, factory, harvest and wire.

Then get your drones working again.

You are losing drones either from hazards, combat or value drift faster than they can replicate, you need to have at least over a trillion for any meaningful universe exploration to start happening…

FYI On PC if you hover over the probe options, it tells you what they do. If you're on a phone or something, you probably just need to google it or check the wiki that has already been posted by someone here.

      • Thanks, that's really helpful. I have got everything up and running again now except it still shows me as having 0 inches of wire, is that normal? In brackets after 0 inches it says (100 nonillion inches per sec). So perhaps it is getting wire but it's using it as fast as it can get it?

        • Yep, you are using more than you have available.

Also I meant you are losing probes, but you probably figured that out.

        • @John Kimble:

          Cheers
I've got 3.5 trillion drones now and growing pretty fast, no exploration happening yet :(
I have got exploration set to 9, speed at 10, combat at 10 and all the others in between.

edit: ha, up to 100 quadrillion drones now and 0.000000000008% of universe explored

        • @bonezAU: Go with 1 speed 1 exploration, 6 hazard, 7 combat, 1 for each drone and max the rest on to self replication mate. Exploration doesn't do anything for % explore and speed just increase the rate your probe getting destroy by hazard.

The amount of drone you have doesn't really matter (they do in the context of producing clip) but as far as exploration is concern, it is the amount of probes that count.

Also you have way too much memory, you only need a max of 150 memory IRCC, 395 is over kill.

    • you have your drones on think not work. So you need a balance :)

  • I am stuck cause there is no available matter. What should I do??? I can't get space exploration cause there is no matter.

  • edit: solved it

  • Beat the game first go in a single day, stumbling my way through. It is addictive but it is also nonsensical. I am more impressed with the use of a large math library in a browser game than with the mechanics. The ending is lame.

  • +2

Oh god, not another clicking browser game?

    These are pure evil lol

  • any1 actually accepted the offer?

Also why they give you the time reverse option….. (wasting time / start over)

    • I'm finished too now, exact same as your screenshot. I'm kinda glad, it was consuming a bit too much of my time :)

      • You guys aren't finished, you get 2 choices, what did you choose at the end?

        • Reject.

        • Yeah I rejected too, then deconstructed everything for the final paperclips

I haven't lost this much time to a game since Civilization V.. just one more.. marketing campaign

  • . Universal Paperclips achieved in 9 hours 36 minutes 28 seconds

    Screenshot

    Best game ever

  • This thread, and the countless others around the internet, are very clever marketing for a rather dull idle game with pretty poor review scores. Well done to the dev and his marketing team.

  • Universe 12 atm… Haven't chosen simulation yet…

  • Yes, on my phone browser.

  • Soooo addictive…

  • I've been stuck on 0.0000000000% universe for the past few days… Does anyone know what I am doing wrong, it's doing my head in! Screenshot

    • You've only got 3680 probes…you need trillions more to explore the universe.

Combat hasn't even been enabled yet too, so you have a fair way to go. Drop production to 1 each and increase replication and hazard reduction.

  • Full autonomy attained in 2 hours 15 minutes 19 seconds|

    am i doing it right?

Ive lost my investments window, i also lost my wire spool, my money and my paperclip counter has stopped?

    • nevermind, im now producing 3.24 billion clips a second.

      Still want my money back!

  • fk rip tmr test

  • I'm kind of stuck here, anyone help a guy out please?

You have to unlock 'power grid' for 40000 ops which will give you solar farms to generate electricity. Next will be battery farms to store excess electricity. Then comes harvester drones and wire drones. Finally you have to unlock factories to manufacture more clips. The drones and factories need electricity from the solar farms so make sure solar farms are always producing slightly more than what is being used.
