    • That was Android face unlock. Samsung has Iris unlock.

        • That's great, but have you actually tried doing it? I can't. I have printed high resolution photos and had no luck at all. Many on reddit have also tried this.

        • @OnlinePred:
So Gizmodo & security firms are fabricating stories?

Is that how you resolve cognitive dissonance?

(and if anyone is about fabricating the truth, Samsung are the clear trailblazers:
          http://www.smh.com.au/digital-life/digital-life-news/samsung… )

        • @yoyomablue: I'm just simply saying, that it's not as easy as the one single video put it out to be. There are many youtube videos of people trying to replicate the same issue, with no success.

Either way, if you read the article, all you need is a really good camera in night mode, an ultra closeup of the persons eyes and a high res photo printer. So it is exactly the same strength as Fingerprint security as if someone is going to those lengths to get your biometrics, they could get fingerprint just as easy or easier.

          Anyway enjoy.

        • @OnlinePred: Actually the most secure technology is fingerprint recognition, which Samsung, Google, etc have put on the back, which is inconvenient from a usage perspective.
So yes, the extra money I do pay for an iPhone does make me 'enjoy', in practice

        • @yoyomablue: wow, okay. Lol. Like I said, fingerprint can be broken with some effort. So not sure what you are on about. If you value security you would have a password lol. You just want to spend more in the hope that it means you get more. In which case you don't.

          https://www.theverge.com/2016/5/2/11540962/iphone-samsung-fi…

And you just wait, there will be a video out within days of IPX release showing how to fool the face recognition - and probably an app to help do it too.

Also unless you hold your phone like a special person, your finger will be resting on the back when you pick up your phone, so it's kinda the most ergonomic place to put it.

        • @OnlinePred: lol. A phone is picked up by placing 4 fingers on one side & a thumb on the other. A finger doesn’t magically slide to the top of a reader. Basic biomechanics, unless you’re a special person.

Amazing the level of revisionism people go to in resolving cognitive dissonance or, more pertinently, buyer’s remorse.

        • @yoyomablue: I don't use fingerprint scanner as I have a smart watch. My finger naturally falls on the fingerprint scanner anyway while holding it, reaching all the way to the bottom of the screen doesn't look or feel right when you have a big phone. You hold the phone with 4 fingers on the side and a thumb while you are using it? - if so a scanner on the side would make more sense?

Anyway getting off track as your personal preference for fingerprint scanner is entirely personal and has no real objectivity, so no use arguing why you like to spend big while thinking it gets you better security when you clearly just want to blissfully throw money at Apple which clearly makes you happy so no issue here.

        • @OnlinePred:
          Evidence is presented, story changes.
As stated, revisionism to suit the mental narrative, a.k.a cop out.

If YOU do not see the bargain here, then YOU are holding it wrong…

  • +1

    Rofl

  • +1

    $2 cheaper than rrp

    Wow save a whole 0.126%

  • +2

So iphone preorders are a deal now.

  • +1

OMG - haha .. that price is hilarious.. for yet another mobile.. :D #baa

  • +1

Is this stackable with the $100 store credit if you click and collect? Lol I'm not interested in buying this, but $100 store credit is a lot more than a $2 saving…

  • +3

This is not a bargain at all. $2 off RRP on a $1577 - $1827 item!

  • Verging on a neg for this. Ludicrous suggesting it's a deal

  • +1

if you are going oseas you can potentially bring the price down to $1615
    Total $1827-$45(2.5%CR)-$167GST= $1615

  • +1

    Wonder when these will ship…..

  • One tenth of a per cent saving? No, that's not a bargain, sorry.

  • No wonder this generation will never save enough for a house deposit.. LOL

    • No, your still mistaken.

    • +1

The price of an iPhone is nothing compared to the hike in property prices.

      • So might as well spend it all?

      • When this gen gets totally stooged paying over 12 times the mean average yearly salary for an overpriced shoebox, ending up being a couple of million over 30 years, most likely for two breadwinners, then you see a phone or even god forbid, avacodo, is a drop in the ocean compared to a lifetime in debt up to the neck.

Remember to spend your money on things you deserve. Forget the nay saying stooges who disenfranchise the very right you have to thrive. They simply want you to forgo things to leech even more of the backs of the livelihoods of innocent families. Leave the change to spend on affordable housing and liberate yourself from an unprecedented distorted reality.

  • Many hard-core Apple fans would pay the price if it was good enough.
But they don't seem to be overly impressed this time.
I'm not blaming Apple for that- the smartphone market is maturing and it is hard to find new features that are more than gimmicks.
So instead of adding features, they raise the price. In marketing, there is solid science behind this strategy, but I don't think it worked well for the Gold apple watch.

  • +4

I can understand the negs here, but I can also appreciate the plus votes. What everyone has to remember is that aside from potential CR and a minute saving of $2 off RRP, this handset will probably be quite popular and out of stock everywhere hence IF there's a potential of getting the iPhone within 1-2 weeks AND saving $2 WITH CR (plus TRS if you are traveling), it turns out to be an ok deal. Not a BARGAIN in terms of $ value, but still a bargain for some that want the phone.

    • +1

Exactly, There is always going to be two sides to a post like this however if you were to try and get an iphone off ebay you would be looking at $2k+. This is for anyone who missed the initial preorder and wants one faster than 5-6weeks.

  • +1

This is clearly not a deal. $2 off for an iPhone X case worth $20 can be a deal. That will be 10% saving. But not this one.

  • +1

This phone price is clearly not for everyone. Some of my friends got heaps of money to spend so this is just a rich toy.

    • People don't get to be rich by giving their money away for nothing.
I'm not sure this will be a hot seller.

  • +1

Would love to know if anyone has heard from The Good Guys about the ship date for these.

    • It says 2-5 days after release date. If there are any delays you should be able to cancel. Beats the 6-8 week wait from apple. Not many people know about good guys being another place to preorder yet hence why i doubt theyve sold out yet.

    • 'We aim to deliver your product(s) on the release date. You will receive an email when the product(s) is available for fulfilment. In the event of a delay we will endeavor to ship your product between 2-5 days after it arrives."
I assume as the 4th Nov is a sat(unless this is a typo and should be the 3rd), we should get it sometime between the 6th- 11th'

      Quoted from whirlpool.

      • I have ordered one from TGG. I hope that if they dont have stock to ship for orders this week they say so. Otherwise I am going too try my local JB Hifi store on launch day. JB online says they aren't taking Pre Orders.

      • thread link?

  • S6 from 2.5 years ago is on par and in some aspects has better features than the X. The X is nothing but outdated, overpriced, rubbish!

    • Great….so don't buy it. Keep your S6 or whatever you have now. To each his own.

    • and in the same retrospect, the X has some far better features
Quit your bs. Yeah, great, this phone isn't for everyone, but no, it is not like your outdated s6, neither is it rubbish. Maybe overpriced, yeah, but not rubbish.

      • +1

I'm actually an Apple fan and don't even own an S6, just stating the obvious. Apple need to catch up with the times and give better spec bumps to its products - cough 5400rpm hard drive cough in the iMac, cough 720p webcam for 7-8 years cough, had the 16gb iPhone issue etc etc.

  • +2

This is clearly a troll post. Duh. What are commenters thinking?

  • +1

2k for a phone… Why? 400 of them buys a seriously nice house! Think about it that way!

  • +2

Maybe buy an s8 and save $800? The price of this phone is ludicrous!

    • Why buy a laggy phone with outdated security features?
      I wouldn't even pay $800

      • +2

That facereading tech that didn't work during their presentation? Apple fan or not is it really $1000 more speedy or secure? My S7 runs flawlessly and that's 18 months old. Fingerprint readers are more secure and faster than face recognition anyway.

        • -1

Actually the face reading tech that is only available on iPhone, despite what others claim about theirs, did exactly what it was meant to since it was used prior.

The latest fingerprint reader you have to turn the phone over……lol

        • +1

It didnt work during the apple live demo lol.

        • @yoyomablue: Face unlock not working during the launch event was definitely not intended by Apple that's for sure!So it didn't really do what it was meant to… Just saying. Why not unlock your phone the regular way and go on holiday too!

        • @OnlinePred:
          Samsung self combusting phone….’lol’

Good thing Apple threw Samsung a bone with the screen contract, otherwise they might be bankrupt.

        • @spazattack91: but unintentionally showed that the iPhone works as intended, which could be argued is a good thing

        • +1

@yoyomablue: wasn't he the owner of said phone? Apple markets itself by its ease of use

        • +1

@yoyomablue: credit where credit is due. Samsung have been much more innovative in the last few years and have been much more consumer friendly. I don't understand why people are so loyal to brands that they take personal offense when someone criticises a product. That's what ozbargain is about - value. I don't think the value proposition of the X warrants a price 2-3 times of the competition. Is it that much better than similar phones? Maybe the X is for multiply.

        • -1

          @spazattack91:
You realise it was a presentation?
It was being set up by someone else.

        • @yoyomablue: Woah. New level of apple fanboyism. You know samsung isn't the only other company out there right? Also the samsung didn't self combust while being demo'd so not sure what you are talking about. Also ip8 is having battery problems now so LOL?

        • @yoyomablue: Yep, it sometimes won't work, yet is the most expensive phone on the market (mass market)

        • @spazattack91:
One thing I don’t understand is why people think claims equal innovation.
When said claims are put under the blowtorch, they are found wanting.

        • @OnlinePred: will they be recalling it like Samsung?
          ‘LOL’

        • @OnlinePred: we’re talking about Apple, not ‘paper specs’ Samsung

        • @yoyomablue: really showing your true colours here.

        • @yoyomablue: Look mate, Apples are great phones, there is better out there, far better, and often far cheaper. I mean if you just say you are invested in the ecosystem, that's fine, but when you try and compare and justify, it just falls flat.

        • -1

@yoyomablue: Things like bigger screens, higher resolution displays, virtual reality, wireless charging, amoled displays, expandable storage, multitasking and split screens have been on android phones for the past few years. These are meaningful and noticeable upgrades. These features are not just on Samsung phones, but many manufacturers. Apple has a great way of marketing products with existing technology as revolutionary. That's what you're paying for- a brand. No-one has answered how it's $1000 better than a competitors flagship.

        • @OnlinePred: likewise

        • @OnlinePred: on paper there is, in reality there isn’t. That’s why you pay more

        • @spazattack91:
Wireless - still requires a wire
Bigger screens - due to inconvenient unlock features (eg Samsung)
AMOLED - it took Samsung several years to get their screens independently rated better than LCD
Higher resolution - almost undetectable to the human eye on such a small screen & uses more power
Expandable storage - less relevant by cloud & faster broadband
Multitasking & split screens - practicality on a 5-6 inch screen?

Face unlock is ‘revolutionary’ & it’s been stated that Android is probably 2 years behind. They were previously a year or so behind on fingerprint tech when Apple initially released it on the 5S
It’s the day to day usage that makes the premium justified. Evidenced by how far behind all Android phones are on Geekbench, an indication of operational practicality - I look forward to the side by side multi minute video comparison of using phones with various programs.

        • +1

          @yoyomablue:
Wireless chargine is wireless, in the same way the wifi is wireless.

Amoled has been better than LCD for the last few years.

Higher resolution is visible on bigger screens.

Expandable storage is better to have than to not have, and you can get cheaper phones knowing it's future proof.

Multitasking is for power users. Perhaps you are not a power user - that or when apple release split screen in 2 years, you will complain androids implementation sucked.

Look mate, keep complaining, but you are a fan boy, try other phones mate. I tried a 7+ and loved it, they are great phones! Other phones have much better battery life, bigger screens, better cameras etc.

        • -2

@OnlinePred: iPhones are the only ones on the market that can shoot 4K at 60fps - 30fps skipping is very obvious on a tv
          So easy to refute…

        • +1

@yoyomablue: 4K is impressive, until you run out of onboard storage!

        • -1

@spazattack91: guess you won’t need on board storage at 1080p!

        • +1

@yoyomablue: These are still desirable features on a phone, otherwise Apple would not be adding these features to theirs. I mean I can tell the difference between 720p and 1080p screens, these still aren't sharp enough for vr either. My point is that you shouldn't have to make sacrifices with a phone that's twice the price of another. Maybe you shaved a few milliseconds off an app opening, but in the end you've spent an additional $800 to do so. You seem to have bought the marketing campaign hook line and sinker mate. Search :opportunity-cost

        • -1

@yoyomablue: Why on earth do you want to record at 4k 60FPS to watch on a tv FROM A PHONE LOL. Will be great watching on low resolution phone screens….. I mean sure, that's a single thing the new iPhone has that others don't, but that is a VERY short list lol. Also considering most phones have better camera quality for both photos and videos, this isn't a win for iPhone. https://www.reddit.com/r/GooglePixel/comments/74fv12/pixel_2…

        • @spazattack91: you can argue the same with a Google Pixel compared to a $200 phone.
          Too easy…

        • -1

@yoyomablue: Yea people have options which is great for android right? If you want the best camera in any phone then you can buy the Pixel 2, if not you can buy the OP5 which is 1/3 cost of IP8 and still mostly better.

        • -1

@yoyomablue: Doesn't really interest or suit my needs. I currently don't have a 4k monitor or screen.Let alone the storage on my PC for the videos! Most people don't, and those that are into video will probably buy a dslr for that kind of work. But hey, different horses for different courses. Storage is a huge issue with 1080p alone!

        • -1

@spazattack91:I just looked at @yoyomablue 's comments, pure troll comments for a long time. Can't argue with trolls. Literally jumps on every android phone/windows post and trolls about them.

This is literally a comment he made on a post for 10% off apple products (not a reply lol)

@OnlinePred: can’t discuss the point so have to misdirect with claims of troll.
And by the way, oh the irony

        • -2

@spazattack91: millions of people do have 4K tvs, and want to watch smooth video on it, something Android phones can’t offer.

        • -1

          @OnlinePred:
          That’s not 4K 60fps. Comprehension Fail.

  • +1

Just got Cashrewards tracking for $45. Instant iPhone X discount

  • Great phone at the wrong price.

  • So many hurt hearts on this thread. From my knowledge, this same issue occurred with the Nintendo Classic Mini at RRP but out of stock everywhere. It was generally accepted that it was a deal because of the difficulty associated with obtaining one. This is the same thing. But nothing will cause people to down vote like a divide between a choice of products.

    Apple is not competitive.

Apple is not new, or special, when it creates features on a product that has been around for years.

Apple is not designed for everyone.

It has it's own segment of the market, and if that is not you, there are so many freaking awesome brands out there like Xiaomi (who is my personal choice), Samsung, and LG.

Please, don't attack others because they want to do something, even if you disagree with it, with the money that they earned.

  • Dont count on receiving the cashback. Taken from the cashback terms and conditions
"Cashback is not eligible on the following brands: Apple, ASKO, Miele, AEG, Neff, Bertazzoni, La Germania, and Falcon. This includes all products for these brands."

  • -4

    Do the features include:
    - self combusting?
    - 30 FPS camera?
    - photo unlock?
    - laggy interface with a sub-2,000 geekbench score?

    • -1

Way to go in cherry picking :)

      • -1

Yeah, I should focus on the big features like, umm, colour…..

  • +1

Time to use the UE Boom voucher.

  • +1

Thanks OP. I ordered from Apple but as Apple Pay wouldn’t work my order went through 20 mins after so 5-6 weeks delivery. Wouldn’t normally mind but will be away then so couldn’t do TRS. If TGG can get me one on launch or sooner than apple then great

    • +1

This is the exact situation I am in. Would like to get one within a few weeks for GST refund at the airport. I placed an order with the good guys and will cancel my Apple order which is due in December if I can get one before I go overseas.

  • I had my neg on this deal removed by the mods wtf?

Apparently down voting terrible posts/deals isn't an appropriate use of the neg vote.

  • For those who ordered, email from GG when I asked when it would be delivered:

    "Thank you for your enquiry.

Unfortunately, Apple does not provide any ETA. So we don’t have any information about when we are going to get the items and deliver it to the customers."

    • I hope I can cancel my preorder with GG if the shipping time blows out more than a week or two - surely yes given the preorder page said within 3 to 5 days.

      • within 3-5 days after the arrival of stock.

  • Bad guys…always selling stuff with no stock. More like….I want free working capital from customers.

  • Anyone heard from JB Hi-Fi about their stock and pre order?

  • Anyone who preordered had any updates from Good Guys?

    • nah donuts
