Recommend Me: NBN Ready Modem Router

Im getting NBN FTTN hooked up in a couple weeks time with AussieBB (25/5) and i need a new modem as my old ADSL modem wont cut the mustard anymore and I asked them what modem i needed. They told me all I need is a VDSL2 ready modem and i'd be good to go.
Just want your guys opinions on what I should get and maybe let me know of what you're running and if there's currently any good deals I should be looking at.
I dont really want to break the bank, all ideas and opinions welcome.
Cheers

  • you want ozb style cheapie ? and not using voip ?

ebay telstra gateway max tg799 = $20-30 … or $50c if auction & no one bids

    • No voip, im willing to pay around $100 or so

      • you want better wifi than old setup ?

or you prefer to use current adsl modem combo wifi router which you're already satisfied of ?

if ok, then just get that $20 TG799 and bridge it with your current wifi router.

    • telstra gateway max

Jesus Christ do not buy this.

You might be able to unlock VoIP on this one

    • Great advice mate

  • Im not very tech savy, i just want a wireless modem router combo that'll get me the full speeds and wifi range for the house (might be upgrading to higher speed tier in the future)

    • tg799 syncs faster than most modems out there

some reported 48mbps speed on 100mbps package ( i know lol , but that's FTTN problem, not modem. Other modems syncs slower than that.)

as for wifi range, really depends on your house.
if you're satisfied with your current modem's wifi range, then you can run bridge mode.

  • Plenty of cheap used ones on ebay.

  • What do you guys think of this one? TP-Link TD-W9977 - N300 Wireless Gigabit VDSL/ADSL Modem Router

  • Tg799 has been a good modem for me. Surprisingly gives a stronger more stable wifi connection than my archer d9 did.

Original plan was to bridge the tg799 and connect to the d9 for wifi but the tg799 performed better on its own.

Think I paid $20 delivered on eBay brand new
