Any suggestions for something like the Bose QC20 but cheaper?

I've been waiting for a good deal on the Bose QC20 for a while but have been experiencing multiple immense "bargain existential crisis" whilst waiting

I know they are the best in terms of ANC but does anyone know of any product that will do the job well for much less?

Its so hard for me to spend $300+ on a pair of earbuds when I've had $80 pairs from different brands last anywhere from 6 months to a year and some cheapo but very nice sounding $8 panasonic earbuds that last for 2 years

I want something that has ANC and a 3.5mm headphone jack so I can use it with plane adapter for travelling

i know it's alot but mate I can also vouch for Bose QC25's. I never spent that kind of money on a pair of headphones before, however the QC25 are an absolute premium product including build quality. You can feel it in your hands, these aren't your normal pair of headphones. Engineering brilliance.

Save up a little longer and get the QC25. QC35 is the wireless version but i LOVE my QC25…

    Best of luck

I use my QC20 earphones daily and have done for the past 2.5yrs and regret nothing. They honestly are worth every cent and the ANC shits all over anything else you'll find IMO. The sound quality is pretty good, yes there's better, but it's the noise cancelling that you're buying. Skip a few coffees/dinners and treat yo' self

I have both the Huawei AM180 and the Bose QC20. While the Bose is no doubt much better, the AM180 is surprisingly competent in noise cancelling. However, this is outdated and got replaced by newer 185 series.

You can get it for around $115 AUD from gearbest or $145 from Shopping Square

You can still buy the outdated AM180 for around $50 US dollars.

Xiaomi also has noise cancelling earbuds. These will only work with USB Type C phones.

    • damn those AM180s have been on telstra store for $23 that's amazing!

my question is how is the noise isolation on the AM180? because they're very similar to the AM185s and I've read elsewhere that the AM185's tips themselves don't block out much noise.

The fit and isolation is inferior to the Bose QC20, though of course, the QC20 cost many times more..

It should be noted that with passive noise isolation, there is some level of discomfort with completely blocking your ears up. When you look at the design of noise isolating IEM's you'll notice they are shaped like this. These suppress noise passively and are low cost / cost effective of reducing unwanted noise, but they don't always feel great because everybody's ears are different.

Bose Earbuds on the other hand, don't jut in very far and nor do they 'stab' into your ear canal, they just sit there because of that special flange that rests against your pinna. Because of that, it is possible to sleep with them on (even lying sideways) and not have to suffer the stabbing sensation normally associated with wearing IEM's.

Bose earbuds don't isolate noise either; they are active noise cancelling earbuds, and are not passive ones.

        • ah yes I had not considered the shape design of these. Thank you so much for this explanation, serious really appreciate it!

The Samsung Level On Pro's from this deal seem like an alright option. NC obviously won't be as good as Bose, but the reviews, such as this are alright.

Need a Samsung device to fully make use of the features, but ANC will still work without.

    EDIT: Oops, not earbuds/in-ears sorry.

    • thats ok! thanks for your contribution

I do want IEMs but will still check out the level-on deal you posted

Have you considered blockout earbuds instead, like the comply tips on standard earbuds.

    • I actually have not tried comply foam tips before. Are the significantly better than standard silicone ones?

I think they are good for sound block and they are quite comfortable.

I brought these taotronics when there was a lightning deal https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0734XD8B5/ref=oh_aui_deta… and they work really well.

On my recent flight, the QC20 was useless against crying children. Earplugs were much more effective.

Active noise cancellation only works on the low-frequency and highly repetitive sounds of say, engines and motors. It won't cancel out human speech or higher pitched sounds that are not repetitive.

It can also cancel out snoring (but only if the frequency is low enough).

    • Actually noise cancelling ear phones can make this worse as it removes the background hum masking it. If you are OK with things in your ears the blockout ear buds can be more useful. It is not a bad idea to carry both.
