Item Sent to The Wrong STATE, Whose Fault Is It?

Bought something from the Tmart store a month ago, suddently remembered recently I haven't receieved anything from them, only a confirmation email that I paid. I emailed their support and they said it has been shipped and gave me a Auspost tracking number. From the Auspost site, it says the shipment has already been delivered to NSW… I live in VIC… The Tmart Rep said it's not their problem (paraphrasing), go chase up auspost. I asked for a 'items are sent' type email but he just says invoice is fine. I've never had this issue before, I am almost sure Tmart fu*ked up on my address or my transaction, I don't think Auspost just delivers this to a random address in NSW. I haven't gone to the post office yet because of work. opinions? thanks. PS I find it hard to talk to the Tmart rep, seems like they don't speak English very well and took me a while to explain to the person that VIC and NSW are different states and that's not my local post office

Did you pay by Paypal? Just open a case requesting a refund as it’s their fault for putting the wrong address.

    • I think I did. I haven't raid a case because I haven't gone to Auspost. Should I raise the case regardless?

      • Maybe just call up Australia post and confirm the delivery address with them first, if they say they were provided the wrong address then open the case and raise it with PP, make sure to add proof of the delivery address which Tmart gave to Aus Post, AP should be able to provide this to you

Does the same suburb exist in both VIC and NSW? e.g Epping

    • +1

And is Epping as bad in NSW as in VIC?

    • tracking says BOTANY, NSW.
Tracking always provides the state, not just the suburb

Item Sent to The Wrong STATE, Who's Fault Is It?

It is Victoria's for separating from New South Wales in 1851.

      You win the internet today.

    • The smart state?

    • should have gone further back when Earth was just 1 single continent…

      • I would love to see what Tmart would've been shipping at that time.

  • What information did you give the vendor? Are you sure you didn't inadvertently select a suburb in NSW with the same name as your's in VIC? Surely the confirmation of order email you have would have this detail on it?

    • Just checked an old email from Tmart and I can see they do have the state shown under shipping address. Maybe worth checking that if you haven't, OP.

    • shpping address is perfect, no ambiguity. house - street - suburb - post code - state - country

Well, in that case, I'd be jumping up and down with the seller. They have a contract with you to provide the goods at your address. You have no arrangement with Australia Post, it's not your responsibility to chase up AP.

By all means, see what AP will do … this might end up being the path of least resistance, but this is a seller responsibility.

  • Is there a chance they may have given you the wrong tracking number? Or just a random one from another order in the hopes of fobbing you off?

  • it should get returned to sender and then resent

OR if it gets lost, contact Australia Post and they'll lodge a case. I recently lodged one and got $50 back (item was worth $70) via a cheque and then a few weeks later the item actually arrived (it got returned to sender and then reposted out)

  • Might be wrong, but don't they have customs or import control at Botany? Might be your package is sitting in customs for whatever reason.
Contact Australia Post, see what they can tell you.

  • Open a case with PayPal, don't even bother going to the post office. Seller should chase up issues like these not buyers

  • I've sent at least a thousand items using auspost and that's never happened to me.

There are several points of contacts where it would have been realised it's at the very least in the wrong state. It goes from the processing facility, to the parcel facility, to the delivery facility and then to the postman.

Either tmart used the wrong address (I doubt this because printing the label would be an automated process) or gave you someone else's tracking number by accident or to mislead you. I'd be very surprised if Auspost sent something to the wrong state.

  • Auspost usually can’t do anything about these kind of issues i believe. Best way is to lodge a PayPal dispute against the seller as they are the ones responsible to get the item sent to you. Sometimes senders make errors such as a wrong postcode or wrong address. Careless mistakes but it makes all the difference to the posties trying to deliver an item as all they have is the address that is there. Another possibility is the postie might have made a human error and deliver it to the wrong address but to deliver to a different state is a little unusual
