  • Can you claim on your health insurance for these?

    • Should be fine, it's prescription.

T&C also mentions health fund rebates. What is excluded is health fund discounts

    • If you have a extras cover, yes.

  • Hi, im interesting in prescription sunglasses. Is this a good deal for prescription sunglasses ? Or the better deal will come out near christmas or boxing day maybe?

    Thanks

I always get mine from specsavers. Free polarising still on. Also you can ask for 50 off 249 spend .

      • Thank you for the suggestion
        Appreciate it

  • Lenses are often the cheapest part of the package. Shop around for the best total price, including farmes, lens coatings, polarising, etc.

If you get an eyetest from OPSM or Specsavers you can pull out of the hard sell by telling them you can't afford $99 lenses right now and just ask for your prescription, which they are required to provide in full.

You can go online and have the prescription filled for much cheaper, zenni optical and eyebuydirect are the most popular overseas mobs but there is a company based in NSW that offers Australian made frames with Carl Zeiss lenses for around $50 they're called Dresden optical dresden.com.au, partner bought 2 pairs recently they're pretty cool, I think they're made from recycled Lego or something.

Zenni had options starting at around $40 AUD including frame, lense, shipping and exchange rates.

If you're claiming on private health make sure online companies are covered by your insurer BEFORE you buy.

    • Key is pd measurement, even though you get the full prescription, you wouldn't get the pd measurement based on the frame you about to purchased from online retailers.

50% is a good deal, if you got a health extras cover.

      • That is right, just need to ask for the PD as well when receiving the prescription

        • for prefect fit, PD measure with the frame you about to buy, so that wouldn't work well.
And they wouldn't bother give you the PD, its nothing to do with the prescription.

        • @boomramada:

You can ask optometrist for PD we measured partners with a fatmax and had no dramas.

OPSM were after $100 for 1 set of lenses only, got 2 complete pairs from Dresden for same money.

  • It sucks that I've already used my health cover extras this year on contact lenses. My partner is part of the health cover but her eyesight is perfect so we don't get to use her benefits at all through the year.

Anyone got any tips or ideas?

    • Dress like your partner with some makeup on with the high heels and try to get a new glass? :)

      • Either way its win/win. You either get discounted/rebated glasses, or you earn enough money to pay for them.
