Cash back received for 2x200 vouchers bought online

    • -2

      where is your vote lol

      • Right there…

    • how long did it take for the $100 to be credited back to your account?

      • 4/5 days

  • +9

well i just bought a HN gift card at bondi junction. When I asked for a $400 GC the girl whispered to her colleague and then completed the sale.as sooooon as my transaction was completed the checkout girl smugly said "there's no cashback on gift cards". I asked why she waited to tell me util after the transaction and she said cos you wouldn't have believed me otherwise. She recorded my name on the system and so now im wondering if they're going to try and cross match purchases with amex to deny purchases?

What a b**** to try and entrap me lol

    • +6

      You will get the credit.

    • You will definitely get the credit.

    • +3

I reckon you'll get the credit, but even if you don't, have a whine to Amex and I'm sure they will honour it. In fact, they would have no choice but to honour it since giftcards weren't excluded in the T&Cs.

      • +1

I love a little whine to amex haha

    • -1

HN gift card can only be used at HN, what we want to achieve is to buy the prepaid visa gift card. I went to some HN stores and they told me they can sell the HN gift cards, no problem, but the prepaid visa cards.

      • -1

Yeh i know. What I wanted was the Visa1 cards but they don't sell them near me/too difficult to get. HN gift cards were second best. But still the cashier acted like a Lil b!tch. Gift Cards of any kind, inc HN, are supposedly excluded

    • +3

Wow, can't believe the audacity of some people.

Once you get your cashback, print out your statement and take it to her with a smug look on your face.

And if she says "why are you showing me" calmly tell her "cos you wouldn't have believed me otherwise".

Put sunglasses on and walk off like a bawss

    • Did you get the credit?

      • Yeh i did.

But don't bother going to HN Bondi Junction. They're refusing to sell gift cards completely…didn't even see Amex in my hand. Only when i asked if i paid cash would he sell. Then said yes. Got into a tiff yesterday with the manager about it. Dont know why they care so much.

    • they are now placing the gift card rack at a corner inside the checkout area, so you can’t even peruse them unless you ask them to rotate the rack for you.

by the way, no visa prepaid.

Hi all, just letting everyone know I bought Moto G5 Plus and 2 x $50 giftcards and amex email received, gift cards received few days ago and Phone coming soon. All up phone was $240. Phone not available online anymore but anyone thinking about purchasing something less than $400 and cant think of something to get upto $400, just add gift card.

  • +1

I just made an account to say thank you. I only ever use the ozbargain app these days. I signed up to it on my two amex cards. Not sure what to buy.

The Samsung Gear Sport looks like a good buy, but the price is a bit inflated.
The Gear S3 Frontier and Classic can be bought from $300-$400.

  • HN nunawading using the "vpay machine broken" excuse lol

    • +2

      Not an excuse

Apparently headoffice got the epay machine disabled.. which means franchises cannot load visa or vpay gift cards

      • That's what I got told as well at HN Moore Park, Syd - that the Vpay machine has been disabled.

  • Hi. Just wondering if anyone can confirm you get cashback if you purchase 2 x $200 gift cards online using Amex Express??

    Thanks in advance ☺️

    • +2

      Yep

      • So worked for you? You've received cash back?

Just didn't want to purchase then find out not eligible that way 😕

      • BTW. Thanks for replying

        • +3

Yep worked for me .. your welcome

  • Bought a Polar M600 for $299 then went back later and bought an Ipad for $469.
Soon after the 2nd transaction I received the email stating that if it meets the terms I will get a $100 credit in around 5 business days.
Question, how can Amex know if I purchased an Apple product as they are excluded?
Another question, if they are excluded and I spend another $101 to make it up to the limit will they still honor it?

I know I could just wait but wanted an opinion.

    • 1) They don't know
      2) No, because you already claimed the offer on that card

  • Went to Osborne Park in WA . The girl said i could buy HN gift card on amex but i wouldn't receive the credits. >>> not sure if i should just do it.

    • +2

You will get the credit !!!

  • Anyone has a screenshot of the T&C by any chance? I am thinking about going ahead and buy the giftcard, wanted to have something to prove that gift cards are not excluded.

    • There isn’t proof because they are excluded as per the T&Cs but some are reporting receiving cash back when buying them.

      • -1

I don't think that's the case for this particular deal.

I understand it has always been excluded, and always honoured. However it is not excluded in the T&C this time.

        • @spk:

I just noticed that too, they seem to be in there.

Confused where this discussion originated in the thread, unless they've updated the T&C.

        • @victorheaven: they didn't put it in the brief descirption(the one you see on the app while you save the offer)

        • @spk:

          I see , makes sense.

        • In the app you need to click on "Please read the Offer Terms" and then scroll down to the bottom and click on "Full Offer Terms available here".

Point "C", dot point 4 indicates that transactions where you buy a gift card are excluded.

However, it has been stated in this thread that AMEX does not know exactly what you buy, they just get a dollar figure hence why people are receiving credit for purchasing them.

        • @carlenet:

Comments above seem to suggest Harvey Norman is taking down their names for gift card purchases, with a possibility of denying the cashback.

Not sure if this is going to happen.

  • +3

If a harvey norman store denies you the use of your amex card, just walk away. No point trying to argue with them.

The good days of amex might be coming to an end soon.

  • I bought a $1600 HN GC with 4 split payments yesterday. Got the email confo, but would keep everyone posted about the actual cashback. It would be great if others could also let the community know about their experience with HN GC. Cheers

    • did you get the email confirmaion, all good?

      • I did get the confo email - but awaiting the CB. hopefully tonight. I think their EOD process runs around 11PM Syd time, which is when the I usually see the CB getting credited.

        • You should have it by now. My visa prepaid gift cards were purchased on Monday and credits populated on the following Friday.

        • @danielh: yeah mate - got them today morning…got 2 more cards to use…iphone x sorted now need to sort out a tv!

  • Ordered $400 worth of GC across a number of AMEX cards from the website. All orders were declined by Harvey Norman. Credit received on all orders and confirmed it has hit account.

    • May I know when you made the purchase please?

    • +1

Amex will take back the credit from previous experience

      • Purchase made on day deal was posted. AMEX has never taken away credits when amounts were refunded - had refunds from Harris farm, Apple and HN before.

        • I had a refund from Hotels.com and they have taken away credits

        • and did you check out normally by putting in AMEX card or used Amex checkout ?

        • checkout normally. Never had them take away a credit from
me when I’ve been issued refunds.

        • @frank1416: ok I will give it a try :)

also, how did you split $400 across multiple cards online ?
sorry, cant send you a PM.

        • just make multiple orders of $400

        • @frank1416:

Does it have to be the physical gift card or can you also can the eGift Card when you buy online from HN?

        • When HN will normally refund our account since the rejection ?

    • +1

Interested to know if the credit has now been taken back?

My experience with fully refunded purchases in the past is that credits are taken away. (Partially refunded ones seem to be okay)

      • Credit still there

        • Thanks, I will give it a go as well.

        • @victorheaven: how did you got victorheaven?

        • @chillybags:

I have not had a chance to go into the store yet.

Will probably do it over the weekend, will let you know how it goes..

        • @victorheaven: How did you go?

        • @chillybags:

Purchased online on the weekend and cancelled, expecting credit to be taken back. (See Tipu's comment below)

        • Hey frank, it has been reported that credit has been taken back (expecting mine to be too), is your credit still there?

        • +1

Credit still there on all my Amex cards and has been for over a week.

        • @frank1416:

Wow, you must have got really lucky.

          Good work.

        • +1

          @victorheaven:
If it helps, I made the purchases on morning that the deal was posted. Made a number of $400 purchases for Egift cards (2 x $200 cards as only $200 denominations available).

Checkout regularly with credit card. Amex emails were received for all cards except 1.

All transactions were declined by HN, but the credit cards were charged $400. HN processed $400 refunds a few days later, and then $100 credit appeared shortly after on all cards. Credit hasn't been reversed as at today.

        • @frank1416: Are you willing to share if it has now been reversed?

        • @illumination: has not been reversed.

        • @illumination: I'm wondering if it's a manual or automatic reversal, as there's differing accounts of what is happening with these credits.

Purchased a S8 on Thursday 9th Nov and received 2 x 100 credits (2 cards used) this morning. Happy days!

    • do you mean with two cards??

      • Yes with two cards

    • If you don't mind me asking, how much was the S8?

      • HN didn't have the Coral Blue phone on special. It was priced at $1199 however the other colours were at $988.

Got them to do the blue for the same price ($988) and then took advantage of the Amex Statement offer so ended up paying $788 for the s8. Probably could have done better but pretty happy to get Aus stock s8 at that price.

  • Westpac issued card. How long will i see the credit after gc purchase

    • Took me five business days. Bought Monday. Saw Friday. But noted that the credit said it was added Wednesday. I guess it was just invisible until a ‘pending’ process was completed.

  • iPhone $300 back score!

  • Bought the E-Gift cards worth $400. immediately got the email from AMEX. Waiting for the cashback to appear on the transactions.

    • The E-gift card went through and it did not get rejected by HN?

      • +1

Nope, I used amex express checkout. Waiting for the cashback

        • +1

          Good work!

        • +1

I used the Credit Card Checkout and got the same result. 1 small hiccup was that I could not buy more than one $200 GC. and so had to do 2 transactions.

    • +1

Just curious what's the benefits of buying HN eGift cards for the statement credits.
Unless you have nothing to buy and wanted to buy later.
I'm contemplating what to do since you can't buy visa cards any more

      • +1

You just answered your own question. Next!

        • It is showing up as offer redeemed from Harvey Norman now.

  • Anyone experiencing delay in getting the credit lately? Even though the T&C states a ridiculously long time frame to get the credit (up to 90 days after the end date), the credit usually comes in quite quick (1-2 days). Purchased on 13/11 and got the email right after but still no credit. I did my first shop small purchase on 15/11, no email and no credit so far. system glitches?

In addition, in trying to check the T&C, I noticed the offer no longer in my account, normal after used?

    • it did take up to 5 days for one of my credit to come back, i have been using amex for a couple of years

  • +2

FYI, did an online gift card order yesterday, got the gift card within 5 hours

    • You got the eGift Card I assume? That works with getting the credit as well?

      • Yep, I already received the credit on one of my other cards

  • Received credit but still no refund as ordered cancelled. Anyone knows when HN will refund the cancelled order?

    • Takes a couple of days to get back to you. Did you receive the credit memo email?

      • No, I didn't receive credit memo email. Ordered cancelled on 14/11.

  • Was just at Garden City….they have a sign up saying no Amex for gift cards. Really hate that store.
Now wondering if I should risk it and buy online. I dont want to be stuck with $1600 HN gift cards if theres no cashback!

  • Anyone know if we can get Amex cash back on this HN site?

    https://www.harveynormanbusiness.com.au/aglvipbenefits

It suppose be to up to 25% cheaper than the HN retail online store.

    • Excludes purchases from Harvey Norman Photo Centre Online, Harvey Norman Big Buys, Harvey Norman Commercial, Harvey Norman Education & Business, Harvey Norman Energy, Harvey Norman Insurance Replacement, Harvey Norman Security, Domayne, Joyce Mayne, Poliform, Space and The School Locker locations.
