NBN Telstra - What Offers?

Telstra currently is upgrading ADSL connections to NBN where I live. They have offered to retain the current plan and price on a new 24-month contract. I am currently out of contract

Current plan: Telstra Home Global Bundle with 500GB download limits, unlimited calling to India, USA, UK and other countries (the list is restricted, I need calling to India, USA and UK) and paying $80.

Current Plan is good for me.

How much more can I squeeze out of Telstra or others have managed to get out of Telstra? I believe this is the only time I can demand.

Would consider getting away from Telstra, particularly if they want you to sign another 24 month contract.

Aussie Broadband will do a free money and double data for 6 months - all on a month to month contract - through a referral. Knowing and having talked to them would probably get a better deal out of Telstra in any case. Could also quote MyRepublic (though I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole).

I'd also look at getting VoIP, no good reason to pay lots for international anymore, and your phone setup will have to change anyway.

Be aware, Telstra sign you up to 25/5 by default (eg ADSL speed), so you get no benefit from the NBN. They charge through the nose for faster speeds. Aussie will do 50/20 with 500GB and casual VoIP for $80.

  • probably best to deal with the organ grinder rather than the pack of monkeys… if you explain that you are, and would like to remain, a loyal customer… they should sweeten the 2 year contract (free modem/installation/speed upgrade or financial discount)

  • As much as I want to shift to other service providers, I prefer to stick with Telstra considering the service they have provided over last contract.

I am finding it hard to get the speed boost on the current plan with no fees. All i could manage was 50% off on speed boost pack.

Any tips? I have tried on Call and Chat.

    • Called their retention team, they offered me the speedboost for free. They kept telling me that it is not an option anymore, but I showed them the transcript last year who offered me the speedboost on the chat, and they agreed but keep in mind that your application may have to be processed longer as it need to be approved by different departments.
