Rebel Sport Nightmare (Advice?)

So long story short I purchased a pair of football boots from Rebel Sport online paid with PayPal and had them delivered (no dramas).

The boots themselves started to split a few months later which I thought was unacceptable for a pair of +$300 boots so I sent through a photo to their support and they advised me getting an exchange/refund wouldn't be a drama I could either send them back or return them to a store (easy!).

So I went and took them back to the store and was told it wouldn't be a problem I could have them exchanged or refunded so I chose the refund so I could go and buy another pair at my discretion. I was advised in store that because I paid with PayPal they would have to put in a request and have it sent back to there (no worries!).

I get home that day and have an email there from Rebel Support letting me know that because I paid with PayPal a few months prior they would have to get in touch with their finance team and have a refund organised directly to be put into my bank account and asked for my details which I provided promptly.

This was on a Friday so I wait till the following Wednesday haven't heard anything so I shoot through another email. No reply. I wait another 3 days so one week from the original return date still nothing so I send through another email. I finally get a reply to this one;

Hi Adam,
Thank you for your enquiry regarding your refund.
I have escalated your enquiry onto our Online Team to investigate and respond to.
We apologise for the delay with your refund.
If you have any other questions, please do not hesitate to ask.
Wishing you a wonderful weekend.

Once again that is on a Friday so I patiently wait till Tuesday and nothing so I send through another email. No reply. Wednesday I send through another. No reply.

So I think right enough is enough so I call up their support. Spoke to a girl who seemed very helpful. Advised of the process she will let her team leader know who will put through a request form to the finance team who will then organise the refund.

I wait again….

Nothing. So I call up a second time coming up on the 3 week mark from the original return date. I speak to another support rep he advises me that he is very familiar with the process. He has his team leader right there with him and he will send through the correct form to finance and have the refund organised ASAP.

Once again nothing. As you can probably understand I am becoming very frustrated at this point so I call again. I speak to a lady who is very concerned and seemed lovely on the phone she shares my view of how ridiculous this is and has become and tells me she will call me back. She does! I get a call back and she double checks all the details with me. She tells me she has been across everything and found out finance only do one set of deposits per week and this is on a Thursday. (I am calling on the Wednesday just passed) she ensures me she will do everything she can to make sure my refund will be part of that Thursdays deposits. She also tells me she will send me an email with the result. No email.

I call up on the Friday (The 3 week mark 03/11/17) and by chance get the same lady I most recently spoke to. She tells me that her team leader definitely put the form through and they never hear anything back or get any sort of confirmation from finance great!. She does advise that a bank deposit takes 2-4 days which I understand however does not seem interested in getting involved with it any further.

So it's now Monday 06/11 and here I am all this effort for a refund for a pair of bloody boots that isn't an issue other than getting somebody in their finance department to do their damn job.

I mean I actually find it pretty laughable at the moment but ahhh yeah? Where to from here?

    Chargeback/PayPal dispute?

    • The boots were purchased around the April mark. Would PayPal protection have expired?

It is annoying but at least they are not now refusing a refund. That really would be annoying.

        • Yep. Sort of the most annoying thing is every time they can see that I need to be refunded and it just never happens!

      • Probably.

Credit card chargeback window is typically 120 days from purchase date. PayPal is typically 180 days.

  • PayPal escalation?

TLDR: Rebel keep promising adamfury a refund but he is still waiting 3 weeks and a couple of chases later.

    • Thank you ;)

    • thanks no chance I was reading that

  • Ah, the old straya' customer service. Keep pestering them, escalate it to the manager/supervisor, etc. If you do it enough you'll get what you want.

    • It's not what OP wants, it's what he's entitled to!

It's astonishing that at each step every staff member has sounded very cooperative, friendly and understanding but the bottom line is you have no money to show for it!

Similar story here. Bought some boots online 3 months back. I was sent a pair but in two different sizes. Contacted them and they sent me a return label. Posted it back but heard nothing for weeks so had to chase them up again. Eventually had to ring them up and they sent a gift card in the mail but with $10 less. Couldn't be bothered chasing them up again for the $10 but had to send them an email in order to get the gift card activated. Again no reply nothing. Then thankfully found a way to activate it online. Poor form.

  • It's a pain up the @rse, but now you just have to be the pain up their @rse.

Just call, call, call until you get your refund. Call every day until you get written confirmation of exactly what will be occurring and then the moment it's not delivered, on the phone every day until you get your cash.

      • Unleash it!

So have you tried to contact them through their facebook page or twitter. I'm sure they wouldn't want you to constantly barrage their front page.

How close is the Rebel store you returned the boots to ? Is it your local shopping centre and do you regularly go there ?
If so, while doing a usual shopping run there, spend an extra five minutes outside the Rebel shop with a plackard - "Rebel Refuses Refunds" and get some attention. I'm sure the store manager will come out and speak to you. Tell him you'll be here every day until you get the refund, and that you're speaking to everyone approaching his entry.
Security may come along too - so be polite, pack up and come back next time you're shopping.

At the end of the day, the store who took your shoes back is responsible.

Upvoting for making me laugh. I'll definitely hit up their social media avenue. Maybe worth a try!
