Roadtrip Idea from Adelaide

Hey all,

I have about 11 days off over X-mas/NYE and was hoping to do a road trip! Can anyone make any recommendations about a suitable route?

Ideally would like to follow the coast and stay in a few different places.

Also wanting to do it on the cheap and was thinking of camping on beaches rather than staying in accommodation.

Any tips etc. are appreciated :)

Try Eyre peninsula, lipson cove, Coffin Bay, Elliston, streaky bay.

there are apps you can download eg. WikiCamps which give excellent info on all sorts of camping places, including facilities available

Most places are illegal to camp unless there is a campsite. You can usually find alot of campgrounds near beaches though. Be sure to book these in advance as these spots are the coveted camp spots in the most popular time of the yr (Nov - Feb)

Second the Wikicamp app. It's mostly for caravans / motor homes but you'll get a good idea for tent camping too. I did last Xmas at Perlubie Beach and it was fantastic.

Drive the coast to Lorne. Heaps of camp grounds and nice beaches along the way.

Stop at Robe, Portland, Port Fairy, Warnambool, Apollo Bay etc.

Avoid anywhere on the Great Ocean Road around new years.Way to busy to be able to enjoy yourself.

Depends on ones idea of fun. For a quiet time, agreed, it's fairly hectic down there.

But during peak season, there's lots of stuff going on and lots of fellow "roadies" to sit by the campfire with and have a few drinks.

True (i like my quite times) but getting to them driving is a real pain in the arse.

    Hi there

I'm doing a camping / road trip from Sydney for two and a half weeks. This is a rough plan of what I'm doing:

Sydney - Merimbula (camping) - Melbourne (airbnb) - Great Ocean Road (camping) - Adelaide (airbnb) - Clare Valley (hotel) - Broken Hill (hotel) - Dubbo (farm stay) - Sydney

Would recommend for you to go to Great Ocean Road and camp. If you are hoping to do so you need to book asap as a lot of spots book out far in advance.

How about visiting Tesla's new battery pack in Jamestown, the largest in the world? We'll be relying on it heavily within a few months!
