Telstra Frontier Modem, Can you add an external 4G Aerial?

Just secured one of these modems purely for the 4G fall over (DJN2130)

The unit has 2 SMA connectors for an external aerial.
In the box Telstra specifically notes "Antenna sockets not for consumer use"

My question is, Is anyone in the know if I invest in an external Antenna will it work, or do Telstra some how lock off the feature.

Got the antenna kit today. It makes a difference with my signal now 4-5 bars.
Just check what speed you get with your Frontier on 4G Failover (also try different positions). If you get 6/1, you don't need an antenna.

Yep, the modems are capped at 6/1

  • The 4G backup internet speed is capped at 6mbps down/1mbps up in the event the fixed line service goes down!

  • Set the modem up this afternoon, the unit is failing to fallback to 4G even with max signal strength.
Telstra Tech support confimrs the unit is faulty and notes he has delt with several other DOA Frontier modems…

    • Are you locked to Telstra for 4G, Charlie?
