Samsung 50" Full HD 3D Plasma TV + Bonus 22" LED TV for $1527. Ends Tonight

550

JB Hi-Fi yesterday reduced the price of their Samsung F-PS50C7000-01 model from around $2100 down to $1796 and with the 15% of TV's sale they're having tonight for friends and family (voucher can be found here http://www.jbhifi.com.au/fandf/) it brings the TV down to $1527!

PLUS on redemption you get a 22" LED LCD TV (unfortunately not full HD but still worth a bit if you want to resell or good for the bedroom) along with 4 pairs of 3D glasses and a copy of Avatar (whoopee).

I did this last night as the guy who served me was nice enough to give me 15% off then, he also knocked off the $27 so I paid a cool $1500 :).

Black Ops looks amazing on it, I must say :).

Yep a nice price but with cost of electricity going through the roof i would recommend people only get LCD or better yet LCD-LED backlit TV's and as much as plasma has improved in power consumption so has LCD-LED TV's so they are still way ahead on that as well as being the technology of the future…

My guess is in a few more years time Plasma will be dead buried and cremated in all but the largest of TV's :) (65" and up)

    • Could you please tell me whare can I compare the
Energy Consumption (CEC, Comparative energy consumption). It's CEC is 859 kWh/yr. How about other LCD/LED-LCD tv's of same size?

      Samsung LA46C650 46" LCD TV - CEC 567 kWh/yr

Can anyone estimate any cost difference after 10 years of use?

      • The LAxxC650 6-Series is highly recommended. I have the 32" LCD model and although its not LED-backlit, the image quality is immaculate and better than the equivalent LED model IMHO. Only 120W.

Once you get to larger models +42", the plasma are the way to go, but comes at a cost (higher wattage)

        • There is always the argument though, Per day, lets say you use the TV for 2hours, how many days does it take for a plasma's power usage cost to equal the premium you pay for a LED LCD?

        • "Per day, lets say you use the TV for 2hours, how many days does it take for a plasma’s power usage cost to equal the premium you pay for a LED LCD?"

          Something like 120 years. Wow.

      • You can compare the energy consumption of appliances at http://www.energyrating.gov.au/appsearch/default.asp

Who uses a tv for only 2 hours a day ??

if you happen to have kids that thing will be on for 15+ hours a day

The world wide web says that 3D Plasma works better than LCD + LED 3D

    • +1

Interesting idea, but you might want to back it up with some evidence..

      http://www.energyrating.gov.au/

Comparing my current TV (50" plasma) to a similar LCD-LED, the difference in the cost of electricity to power the unit for 10 YEARS is at best $400. 10 years. $400. And what is the price difference between these units?

I'll keep my plasma, thanks. :)

      • except for the fact in coming years electricity costs are going through the roof big time so that $400 could easily become $1000+

and you are basing it on nominal use

        • Uhh.. 10 hours a day. That's pretty normal for our household. Probably over the mark by quite a bit.

And the cost of electricity is hardly going to more than double. If it did, you also realise that the cost of making the TV would also go up in relation, as well as many other factors.

So right now, it's costing me an extra $40 a year to own a plasma. Again, I'm OK with that.

      • totally agree!

When ppl sees the 2-3 stars on the energy rating on Plasma they freak out, then spend $500-$1000 more to justify for a 4-5 stars LED when in fact the plasma only cost ~$50-$100 more per year (based on ~10 hrs a day for 365 days). I rather keep that money in my pocket initially lol

        plasma ftw!

      • I too agree and already made the following point on another Plasma thread. With the money you save on the plasma you can buy a 2nd small LCD TV for those times you don't really need a big screen. In this case you don't even have to buy it - it's 'free'! Depending upon you viewing habits and how you take advantage of that situation, you could on average be using less power than if you had one expensive LCD TV. PLUS you would extend the life of your plasma since you won’t be using it all the time.

  • Very sweet. We got this TV for 1800 back in September, though we got total 4 glasses, 2x monsters v aliens and a bluray player, so meh.

Though Samsung have had us completely verified and paid for, and are yet to post the player. shakes fist

Anyways good TV. Good 3D. Get it and watch it and enjoy it.

    • This promo doesn't come with 3D player :(

      • Yeah, but cheaper + free LED TV, $300 saving and a device worth maybe a hundred(?) bucks more seems better.

is Black Ops Xbox 360 in 3D ?

    • -1

Black ops is 3D on 360, although apparently it takes a bit of a graphics and framerate hit if you put 3d on.

  • Waiting for Google TV

  • +4

with aussie dollar > us dollar

prices will drop even more during christmas and boxing day sales

I'm going to wait, but for those that can't wait good price

$39 to be paid for 22" TV redemption. So overall price will be $1566 and not $1527.
I don't like plasmas anyway. In addition to higher power consumption and heat that they generate their glossy screen reflects everything like a mirror.

Saw this tonight at JB. The power rating was around 850, compared to 600-700 for other 50" models I looked at.

The picture quality on this one though beat the hell out of many of the others, mainly due to the 600hz, which is plasmas hightest hz, and equivalent to the 100hz in LCD. Watch a scene that scrolls and on the crappy ones you'll see it judder along, where on this it's smooth as.

$1500 in total is a great price. We have the 22" Samsung LED, which we paid around $400 for a few month back and it's an awesome pic as well.

Hope that info helps someone, although it will be too late anyway cause the sale will be over :)

    • +1

Are you sure 600hz in plasma is equivalent to 100hz in LCD?

I thought plasma didn't suffer any motion blur, even shitty plasma, because it's refresh rate is 1/10 of a millisecond vs 6ms-20ms for LCD?

      • plasma is a lot smoother, normally larger in size and cheaper than lcd/led.

lcd/led is just hyped up junk!

A good plasma vid quality always looks better than lcd/led after colour calibration.

  • So pissed I missed out on this. Bought this TV 3 weeks ago and paid $2000. This is a steal and I doubt it will get much cheaper then this around Xmas!

    • +4

Put your foot through the TV, go on Today Tonight and blame the WIi/Playstation Move/Xbox Kinect. Kick up enough of a stink and you'll get a full refund and a nice $500 in your pocket.

No seriously, don't do this. :)

    • the way the US$ is and the prices have been dropping big time

the sony 40 inch that is $999 Dick smith was $1400 only a couple of weeks ago then $1240 and then down again

plenty of 42 inch at $699 or so now

  • -1

    pity it wasn't LCD/LED :(

    • -2

…why would you want a LED? You do realise they are inferior to a modern PDP?

      • -1

because some sales guy at harvey norman told him they're better.

      • -1

then enlighten us why most manufacturers make lcd/led rather than pdp? (cough… coz its so dated)

    • Agree with Inertia. Someone should call mythbusters.

  • Where would you sell the 22" LCD? How much would you be able to get for it?

  • would you be able to post a Receipt please?
I would love to try my luck heading into a store. :)
I am in need of a new tv badly!
