  • Performance compared to 1080Ti?

    • +6

Its a competitor to the 1080, not 1080ti. This card and 1080 trade blows, but this one usually comes out on top (albeit while consuming more power).

Again, DX12 and Vulkan this will pull ahead. Furthermore, it has a bunch of dormant features yet to be used in games that will actually speed up things. So in terms of right now, you can choose either. In terms of future usefulness, this should be the better bet.

      • This also tends to pull ahead at resolutions higher than 1080p.

The clock/voltage balance can be altered significantly, resulting in further performance gains after undervolting while having a lower TDP. The net result has them a smidge ahead in performance and power consumption than a GTX 1080.

        See:

        https://www.hardwareluxx.de/index.php/artikel/hardware/grafi…

        http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/amd-radeon-rx-vega-64-un…

        https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/threads/vega-64-overclocki…

TL;DR version: if you see this priced lower than a good price for the 1080, jump on it, as you'll make further savings with a FreeSync monitor.

      • Its also important to mention AMD cards age very well compared to Nvidia cards. Past generation AMD cards still see improvements in performance with new drivers while Nvidia cards actually loose a chunk of performance

        • +2

I like AMD and support the underdog, but this is blatantly false on both accounts.

          https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GBkGu4Wd7vg&t=45s

Or if you can't be bothered watching. Nvidia performance stays the same. AMD likely sees increased performance due to crap drivers at launch and the gains are nothing to write home about.

        • +2

@Vita85: My bad I redact my statement about nvidia cards loosing performance. But AMD has much better optimization of older cards than nvidia. An old 280x was on par with a 770 when it came out, now it performs similar to a 780

        • +1

          @GossipGoat:
I just replaced my GTX780 for a RX580 for this very thing. No driver optimisations for Kepler in a very long time (meanwhile the 7970 which was the competitor at the time is still getting optimised drivers).

Either way you are basically confirming that the Vega is a good purchase, since its already competitive/beats the 1080, and you have confirmed that its performance will only improve.

    • -3

The 1080 is generally the better performer, but you can save on monitor costs by going down the Freesync route.

      • In DX11 titles usually.

    • -5

Basically you being told by AMD fans to buy a card for stuff in the future that hasn't happened yet such as theoretical gains for non-existent products and because it er … ages better.

      In other words buy Nvidia.

  • +1

Are people still buying up these cards for mining?

    • +1

Probably only the amateurs that have too much money to spend.

  • Awesome deal, cheaper than in the US. GET IN NOW

  • Really want one but concerned about power consumption… mainly because I have a subpar power supply. What is the minimum power supply requirement for one of these?

    • 750w

    • Undervolt and it works like a dream. Only to be improved by further driver updates, get it at this price, only gonna go up from here IMO.

    • +1

Take a look at my earlier comment. The RX 56 sees a much bigger performance-per-watt gain when you undervolt then adjust clock.

  • Tempting. Wonder if it's worth waiting for aftermarket/AIB cards at this point.

    • Depends on what you're doing, aftermarket cards will improve the 64 more when compared to the 56 as it has a lot more power so more cooling it required.

  • What's the difference between this and the limited edition version that was posted earlier for $30 more?

    • "limited edition"

      • Does it have a different cooling system, backplate etc or is it just a 'limited edition' colour scheme. Doesn't appear to come with any games either.

        • Nope, this is a much better deal.

  • +2

Great deal it is below US MSRP of $499/-

Vega is clearly better than the 1080 if you have a Freesync monitor or predominantly play DX12/Vulkan titles.

Wolf2 game is a nice deal sweetener too.

  • When are the aftermarket coolers coming out? I'd grab one at this price if it wasn't a reference card but with summer coming up and having no AC I imagine it'll be noisy as hell and likely throttle.

  • +3

How do we confirm the games/ amd rewards are applicable to this deal and how do we claim them?

    • +1

It is eligible and the codes work until the end of November. I've just got and redeemed my codes from Futu eBay for this deal.
      https://www.amdrewards.com/amdrewards/ to redeem.

      • Thanks. Shot off a message to futu. Here's hoping.

  • Damn. Bought. I didn't even need/want it.

  • Paid $740 during last eBay sale :-(
Wonder if my NAB credit card can refund the difference? :-(

  • Campaign Period begins August 14, 2017 and ends on September 30, 2017 or when supply of Key Codes is exhausted, whichever occurs first

    So no free games :(

    • Campaign Period: Campaign Period begins August 14, 2017 and ends on September 30, 2017 or when supply of Key
Codes is exhausted, whichever occurs first. Eligible AMD and Special Offer Products must be purchased in a single
      transaction during Campaign Period.

Redemption Period: The AMD Unique ID must be redeemed within two (2) months of the end of the Campaign Period or
November 30, 2017 to obtain Application downloads after which the AMD Unique ID is void.

      I am so confused

      • +3

Eligible AMD and Special Offer Products must be purchased in a single transaction during Campaign Period.

Seems pretty straight forward: since the card wasn't purchased within the dates it is ineligible.

        • +1

It is eligible and the codes work until the end of November. I've just got and redeemed my codes from Futu eBay for this deal.

        • @Nom: I can confirm, asking for a code and recieved it.

        • @Nom:

Woot! Finally got the code and currently downloading in steam!

Thanks to Nom… All it took was a message to futu and they provided a redemption code.

Makes this deal just that bit sweeter.

        • +1

          @sabaramo:
No problem - I was chatting to David @ Futu during the week about this, and I think they actually went to the trouble of contacting AMD specially for a bunch of codes. Took AMD a few days to reply, and it all worked out in the end ☺️

  • thanks boys pulled the gun this is a great price

  • better off pickup up vega 56 and flashing 64 bios. most of the performance for $120 less

    • Hey my fruity friend can you post a link to a Vega 56 for $520? From what I see the market in Australia demands the same or MORE than this vega 64 deal!

      • i mistakenly didn't apply shipping so probably more like $540. but yea us newegg has them for $399 usd. maybe better in coming black Friday sales/ release of aib cards. vega 56 is a way better buy for these cards imo, amd had to hold it back to stop it competing with 64

for the 64 this is a reasonable deal, but at this price I'd go 1080 unless u want freesync, way less power consumption and should OC better.

  • bugger, just got mine delivered and was hoping to redeem games…it was one of the reasons I purchased this :/

My fault for not checking I guess.

    • OP did a poor job checking that, and then didn't update post after it was pointed out to be inccorrect. I ended up reporting it to get the mods to fix it.

Side note: did yours come with power connectors or driver a CD?

      • nup. just the GPU and a couple of black and white booklets.

    • +1

You can absolutely get and redeem the codes. I've just done mine ! Contact Seller on eBay and a helpful chap called David will sort you out.

  • +1

Hi everyone i messaged the seller a while back and they said they are unsure about the game. just received another message saying he has the codes now! redeem your game boys

    • How?

      • +1

so when i purchased it he said that the promotion has ended and was unsure. so first he said
        Hi,

I have some good news for this, we got some new codes sent through from AMD. Please confirm that you would like one of the game codes and I will get the marketing manager to generate one and I'll send it through to you.

        Thanks,

        David

        then he said
        Hi,

I believe it is for both the games but I haven't had a customer do the redemption yet. We only just got the codes about half an hour ago.

        http://www.xfxforce.com/en-us/Promotions/2017/vega

From the redemption page it does say both games. Let me know if there's any issues with it.

        Your code is __________

        • XFX? The card I bought was a Sapphire?

        • +1

@sabaramo: he just linked that because it was part of the promotion from what he found mine is sapphire as well
( one linked in this post ) if you bought from him ask him for the code

        • @DongerDash:

sorry, not understanding? I mean english is my first language but I honestly don't know what you mean?

          edit: nevermind, found it

          https://au.volkswagen.com.au/offers-pricing/

          Wolf2 is awesome!

        • @sabaramo: haha sorry im pretty bad at explaining things

  • +1

https://www.amdrewards.com/amdrewards/ to redeem once you have the codes

  • +1

OK, I'm getting solid performance (7800 in firestrike which puts it above 1080 but below 1080ti as expected.

The fan is pretty noisy for my liking. I'm thinking of getting a water kit. Probably alphacool AIO with GPX pro block but might stretch to a Ek custom loop.

    I'm starting to think I probably should've bought a 1080ti for $250 more.

I've had to upgrade my psu (RM550 TO RM1000x) at a cost of $222.and now might invest another couple hundred on water cooling.

All for a pc that I don't really game on. It just acts a server for my movies. Haha ha.

    Edit: this one probably

If anyone is keen let me know and we'll pool postage.
