~ $1500 Laptop End of 2017

Hi everyone,
Interested in a discussion regarding laptop deals around the ~1500 mark? I'd like to consolidate my research here. I'll post deals if anyone is in a similar situation. Feel free to contribute.

Things to consider:
-8th gen intel CPU just released, limited choices atm but likely more upcoming releases relatively soon.
-IPS screen is highly desirable.
-PCIE > SATA 3 SSD
-2400 DDR4 ram is the fastest option.
-Probably black friday/cyber monday deals 25th/27th Nov.
-E570P was on sale a number of times last month which could return https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/333567

Personally looking for 15.6", 16gb ram, SSD. 8+ hours battery great but not essential.
Not interested in touch screen, 2-in-1 types, or gaming.

Questions:
How important is a dGPU for general usability? (i.e. web development, watching movies, surfing web) I noticed a couple of laptops offering better screens for those models with a dGpu.
New 8th gen for energy savings or 7th gen for power? Should I pay $300 more for i7-8550 compared to i5-8250?

Cheers!

If you are after a Lenovo, just remember there is also an ongoing AmEx offer where you get $150 back for a $1200 spend. Will come handy if you are going to spend near the ~$1500 mark, however this may only be useful during Click Frenzy as the item must be purchased by the 17th of Nov and shipped by 1/12

  • There's also this Dell Inspiron Gaming for $1200.

There's no Core i7 on that one, but you do get an extra 2GB of video memory on the GPU, and better cooling.

Not very important. Intel Iris Pro graphics have come a long way. If you're not gaming, the dGPU isn't required at all and is most likely just baggage weighing the laptop down (and costing more).

  • E570P $1279.2 but would still have to do a 8gb ram upgrade.

    • E570p user here. short battery life too, btw. About 6 to 6.5 hours — won't go much further than that.

Also power brick is pretty chunky and heavy.

Good keyboard and decent touchpad though.
