iPhone 6 Plus Bendgate Issue

Hi guys,

My iphone 6 plus has been affected by the brilliant bendgate and subsequent touch capacitor issue (touch screen hardly works, if ever).

Has anyone had this issue, and if so what did you do to fix it? Is it worth asking apple for a replacement? I don't see a lot of point repairing it as I believe it will be about $300, plus the phone is bent anyway. And the phone is 2 and a half years old. Which leads me to…

Where might I find a reasonably priced iPhone?

Thanks so much for any advice!

    • Haha, good ad. I have never been happy when using android though. Seems clunky to me. But only having 16GB on a phone has been pretty restrictive.

      • your next phone should be razer phone

  • Apple will fix it for $229
    Private repair $150

    • Wow thanks. Local repair shop said would be about $300 to fix. Maybe he said that to try to make me buy a new phone! Is it worth fixing a 2 and a half year old iPhone (that is also bent, anyway?)

      • 2.5 yrs old but the 6 plus still holds its own. I would be replacing when it finally runs out of iOS support. I would also check with the apple store as they usually have unannounced recall/repair programs for some issues so it could turn out to be free. Additionally, if fixing at the apple store and your issue is more complex (i.e. they have to replace more parts than it is worth) they will essentially replace your phone with a refurbished or new iPhone 6 depending on stock for the repair price.

@Apple96: I’ll take what is the obvious and not a scummy thing to do for fifty bucks please Alex.

        • You don't have to be a cabbie to know what to do with expensive lost property: You hand it into the cops.

  • I had my iPhone 6 plus replaced by Apple over a year ago due to the touch screen playing up. They said it was a known issue and covered by them under warranty. Out of warranty I'm not sure what they will say but if I were you I would try anyway, it doesn't hurt to ask and just say your touch screen isn't working?

    • Wow! I might need to give them another ring. Unfortunately I live about 5 hours from the nearest Apple Store. I suppose I would probably have more luck with them face-to-face than on the phone. The guy on the phone said they can repair it for $230, so long as there is no other issues with it, ie it being bent. I asked why they even ran the repair program given the issue is triggered by the phone being bent…

  • I remembered back to this deal and rang my local optus store and they still have stock. The lady said I could get one locked to optus for $399, or an unlocked one for $672. My understanding was that all iPhones are unlocked, you just have to clear them to factory settings. Is this correct?

  • can buy a brand new unlocked 6 plus for $379.99 - 1%cashreward.
