  • This is the older one hey? Tempted to get the current one for the Note 8.

Getting married in a week and thought it would be pretty cool having some key parts in 360 for the future (got Rift- big fan of VR)

Are these up there with the best in terms of image size? Also, how do they go in darker environments, and also battery life?

I'm presuming these are the V2 version which I think a few people don't rate due to a smaller chip size than V1?

The camera frequently shuts off after only a few minutes of filming because it either gets too hot or the memory transfer capacity is too low, which is a shame. You can just stop filming, give it a little rest, and it'll probably be fine though. As for resolution, it looks great when viewed on 2D screens like Facebook/YouTube, but can look pretty blurry in VR unfortunately.

If you want, I can PM a link to some footage I've filmed with my 2016 model and you can see it yourself.

I bought the v2 for use at my wedding two weeks ago. Got some really cool footage. Would recommend.

The one I’ve got only stays on for 10 mins. There doesn’t seem to be a setting to enable it to stay on longer :(

Same. Seems to be an overheating issue. Took mine out to hiking and was disappointed that the videos werent in full

I've had mine record for 30mins with no issues. Probably will shut down if it's blazing hot outside.

Have you tried using an SD card with a higher spec.

From the reading I've done, it appears SD cards with a slower transfer rate cause the overheating somehow.

Doesn't make sense to me but there are multiple sources online that point to the solution of using a better SD card.

        Something around 90mb/s speed.

        • Thanks. I will try.

Using a Samsung evo plus 128gb. Definitely heat.

      • It will auto shut down if over heating.

    • You bastard OzB! Even all this talk of a $130 product overheating after 10mins couldn't stop me from pulling the trigger.. (having just recently switched from iOS to Android also doesn't help..)

Hopefully it can do a little bit longer in coolish conditions (aircon in a function centre)..

For those of you who have recorded and then viewed in VR, and tips on placement, setup etc, or is it pretty straight forward?

I'm presuming average head height would be ideal, but finding something that high in the middle of a wedding may be tough..

    is this the original?

    • From what I've worked out, original is a ball (this) and the second version has the handle as part of the ball below it.

This shoots vidro in slightly less pixels, but upside is that it has a much larger sensor, and double the pixel count for 360 photos..

One thing for all buyers to be aware of, as this is the original one, it is VERY limited to what phones can control it, being only flagship Samsung's..

Thanks TA, been holding out on buying my own one for a while now, this seems like just the right price though.

  • Quick someone tell me if I should buy this!! haha would be cool to go with my new gimbal for the US trip…

    • +2

Gimbal will get in the way of the shots. But read about the heat issues. If youre happy taking short videos then it's fine. Pictures are decent too. You need to have a compatible Samsung phone (s6 and newer) to run the app officially (you can get a modded version but it's full of bugs). If you got no compatible phone then you'll need a computer to stitch the videos to make it 360

      • Thank you so much, saved me from an poor purchase decision!
