Uni Student, Need a Tablet for Reading PDF Mainly? Don't Want to Pay for iPad

Hi all,

I would like some advice about a tablet which will be used mainly suitable for reading PDF.
I already have an iPhone 6 and a Macbook but I feel like a tablet would be more useful and portable.
I have two years left at University which will require a lot of reading.
Price around $200 and 8 inch is ideal for reading, i think

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
Thanks

No you don't need an iPad. I bought a "Lenovo Tab 3 10 Business" (220$) for the exact same purpose - to read PDF and watch TV shows. The tablet is excellent. You can find lots of review in comments here.

Unless you need colour, get an ereader.. far easier to read especially for extended periods.

Didn't mean to make another tablet joke, but the beginning of your subject title did remind me of the movie Limitless.

    • Oh how come? I can't quite remember that movie anymore

      • Me either actually :) I think I tried watching a bad screener version and gave up.

It just sounded at first like you need a tablet to stay focused on a boring PDF that's part of your course (e.g. like Ritalin). I think it's more of an American thing where they buy tablets off kids with ADHD.

        • AHHHh I get it now, tablet LOL
No thank you, my course isn’t boring at all, I just need a more convienient way of reading, that’s all

If you don't want to pay for it have you considered a career as a kleptomaniac?

But seriously, maybe a Galaxy A 8.0 (wifi only) suits? Normal price is around $250 - it does have some limitations (such as a low maximum resolution) but should be fine for the purpose you've stated above.

    • haha I had to look that up, good one.

Oh yes, I did have a look at that one. It seems like an alright tablet but my subconscious is swaying me from anything Samsung.

      • Mind if I ask why you're specifically avoiding Samsung? I have no plans to try and sway you either way, just want to understand where you're coming from…

THe Teclast T10 has a reading mode which allegedly functions quite well. Mine is still in the mail so I can't verify this personally.

    • oh that is interesting, I have never heard of this brand before but the specs look a lot better than the Lenovo Tab 3 especially the screen res. I will look into it. Thank you

    • @Fiximol Has your Teclast T10 arrived yet?

      • Yes it has! I think it is really good value for money. Has been working well and is pretty zippy. Reading mode is quite good. Details are all there and both text and picture are clear, though I have not used it long enough to test for eye strain.

  • I have been watching the Amazon tablets. With their launch in Aus soon I thought they may be an option for a kids tablet.
