PREZZY

Saw this large cat scratching post on ebay. Not sure of the quality though, the reviews at the bottom are mixed, some say materials are weak other say it is sturdy. One of the reviews mentions that the cat boxes are elastic stretched over a frame, so will have to see when it arives. Has 1 year warranty There are several other sellers selling the same one for near the same price on ebay too

Damn, that is pretty impressive. Too bad my cat at the age of 16 does not like those sort of things anymore. She generally prefers to just sit on my chest when I sleep at night.

she's 16, she can do anything she wants to. Treasure the time you have left with her.

Her preference is to sleep in my arms at night (unless it is too hot and then she ignores me and sleeps on the side of the bed. :-)

so cute. They take a bit of effort when they are older, I think we rent them from the vet at that age, but they love a good snuggle and they teach us patience and compassion.

  • Does this have any relevance to the PJC Castle?

I have this. Yes the cat boxes are just the floor and roof with material stretched but they are fine. It is very sturdy. The only not great part about it is that the surfaces are just the material over the wooden boards - there isn't any cushioning underneath like in others where the cats can really grip their claws into.

  • I've had one of these for a couple of years now. My cat loves it. It's still going very well although I did tie two pieces to reduce a little wobbling,

  • Looks similar to the one Aldi has/had for approx. $70.
My fella ripped through that one, and this one looks similar albeit slightly bigger.
FYI - those that have cats that make their way through this, get sisil rope and replace the carpet/material - it lasts longer and it's cheap as.
Also a couple of good custom cat scratch post places around Victoria - those look like quality pieces, with a price tag though.

  • Quality is fine, have the same one in beige. Our 5 cats love it.

  • Have this one in cream but paid $120 for it. It lasted about 2 years, then started wobbling really badly. The screws seem to loosen at the joints, which makes the entire thing quite unstable after a while… swapping the pillars made it last a bit longer. It'll probably be fine if your kitty is small, but ours are about 6kg, and the pouncing up onto the tree really stresses the connections.

That being said, it's cheaper for us to just buy this one rather than try to fix ours.

  • I saw one of these as hard rubbish outside someone's place. It looked a bit wobbly. I was tempted to snaffle it for my girls but it didn't feel right to take it. I wondered if they were getting rid of it because of the wobbles or if they had lost their cat. We have a Bono Fide climber the cats use to get into the top of our wardrobe. They aren't cheap but they are extremely well made cat climbers.

You don't want other cat's germs on your cat, trust me.

      • Yeah, it would've needed to be sprayed and reupholstered - cheaper to buy a new one.

the kmart one is not as elaborate.

  • this is the generic version of the pawever pets one that was often for auction on kogan ebay (got it for like 35aud total). its quite small for an older cat and a little wobbly, im sure this will be similar. there are hundreds of various scratching posts on ebay dont take the saving off list price (besides code) into account they all use that.

if you have a big cat/s i would stay away from the cat trees. one of mine is 7kg and used to run an d launch himself onto his cat tree until the highest section broke causing him to fall on the protruding threaded bolt. he landed on his butt and obviously it caused him some fairly strong pain. poor bugger used to always get around with his tail curled up in an arch over his back. it took months before he was back to doing that and many hours from me massaging the base of his tail when he'd come to my bed in the mornings too wake me up for breakfast. my advice is build one yourself, it will be much safer and last a hell of the a lot longer than these cheap n nasty chinese bits of rubbish.
