My take (I have a child working there - no other association):

They have seriously good gear and they stand behind what they make AND what they sell. The sale is a good opportunity to buy stuff that you might otherwise decide is too expensive.

Can't speak for the sales here but their product isn't bad. I got one of the 'cooler' rated sleeping bags from them last year to take to Phillip Island GP where peoples tents were being blown away and drowned while I was toasty warm, almost to the point of getting out of it, in my down sleeping bag.

    • Agreed! Having had the experience of cold/wet weather in a sub-standard sleeping bag, I'd rather have the problem of being too warm and having to partially unzip.

  • IMHO the normal prices are worth it for their own Mont branded gear. The sale prices are always worth it. And I'm happy to support a local business keeping it local. They do appear to outsource their manufacturing mostly to China and Vietnam these days. But I guess that's inevitable given the competition.

    • They do quite a bit of designing specialist gear too - for folks off to Antarctica and some of the emergency services as well. There's also a room full of gear for people involved in vertical rescue and forestry work. I suspect that their non-retail functions must be a big part of the business these days.

I thought Fyshwick was only home to adult shops. Learn something new everyday.

I used to buy Mont gear all the time. It is so good my sleeping bag and polartec are still used and would be 25 years old, and keep me warm even when camping in snow! Although now I live in Qld the bag is often too hot. The goretex jacket works even in a cat 4 cyclone!
    Wish this sale was online.

    Is it still locally made?
