Still worthwhile even with recent united devaluation?

    • For many routes yes. Best for someone who already has United points.

  • 32,500 United points

Where can I go with 32,500 points ?

    • 50,000 gets you to Asia in business class.

      • Can also get you to Japan as well even though it's meant to be more expensive.

How many puddings for 32,500 points?

  • -1

So that equates to 1.6c and per point

It's over priced by 60% compared to the usual 1 cent per point ozbargain value

Which Aussie reward program gets you to Asia for 50k pts in Business ?

      • -2

That's $790 Aud plus taxes point to dollar conversion

Is that one way or return and how much are the taxes ?

Also any restrictions on dates when redeeming united points for flights

      • Qantas.. just flew them sin-syd

        • Every program has its advantages and disadvantages. Sweet spots and rip offs.

        • @WatermelonJuice: United is a rip off and after their points devaluation, it’s gone worse. Hence all the promos. Read some material on flyer talk to know all about it.

Pls tell Me all about it

      Talk about a misleading comment…

      QFF: MEL-HKG-MNL, flying Cathay Pacific Business Class. Cost 78,000 QFF Points + $165.55 taxes. At 1 cent/point = $945.55

      United: MEL-BKK-MNL, flying Thai Airways Business Class. Cost 50,000 United Miles + $87.08 taxes. At 1.18USD/mile, $0.0118 x 50,000 / 0.76 = $863.40

Both with similar flight times and stopover lengths and comparable aircraft.

So yeah, if you're someone who buys points to redeem then its worthwhile. If you acquire them with credit card signups.. then this probably isnt your jam.

We have used AS miles (Alaska Airlines) many times when on special 4 times a year like 40/50% more for free. It's 60K points in business class return to HKG on CX (Cathy), cost about AUD$1800 depending on AUD/USD exchange rate when buying points. AS are in bed with numerous international airlines, QF, CX, JL, EK, AA etc.

    • Few years back used AS to fly on Emirates Bus. Did not qualify for lounge access nor airport pickup and Emirates threaten to ground us from flying in Dubai. Any idea if this is still the case?

  • We did Emirates Dubai to SYD used business class lounges.

What is the best way to get the extra miles needed for the business class fare (i.e. 50,000 compared to 32,500 from this offer)?

Make sure you can register for the United bonus before you do this.

I tried and got an error message, saying that my account is not eligible for this bonus.
