        Or, if you don't want to buy or use the sensor, it can work like a conventional night light and come on whenever its dark. The app also has timer settings so that you can set it to come on whenever its dark between certain times.

      However, currently the in-build speaker can only play radio stations in China

    This one from GB seems a little bit cheaper. Have been shopping with them lots of times, more confident I believe. Not sure about DD4, anyone had shopping experience with them in the past?

    If you want to use a raspberry pi to control various xiaomi smart things, do you still need to use the gateway or does the raspberry pi replace it?

      This gateway does all the zigbee based sensors (most are zigbee).
      You can set up a pi for WiFi based devices.

      You can even get fancy, and use a pi with openhab or similar to control every thing via and this gateway
